Good reno and simple - good to see you didn't scalp it. That isn't needed. The only thing I do differently is that I never use sand. I get a premium grade garden soil with say 20-30% sand with some fertiliser in the soil. Gives a great result. The other thing I do is to use a rural type fertiliser like Aftergraze - not made for buffalo but provides a great result.

Way too much risk of weeds with topsoil. Sand is best IMO.

@@Anth_D completely disagree. I spoke to thegrower. He told me to use a mix of topsoil and sand. Sand has no nutrients. Buffalo resists most weeds if it is mown high and is nice and spongy. Buffalo is meant to be thick. I followed his advice for 30 years. Never had a weed problem.

@@Anth_D you are most likely to get weeds when you scalp as there is no depth in the grass. When i spoke to the supplier he told me that buffalo requires little maintenance if you keep it reasonably thick and spongy. Only topdress to keep it level. Fertilise twice a year and keep the water up to it. If it becomes too thick just drop the mower a notch. He indicated that most people mow buffalo too low.

How low did you mow that?? I have a buffalo lawn * it near kills me mowing it due to being so high to walk on?? My lawn maintenance bloke said to keep it long but am starting to doubt his ideas on this.

we cut our buffalo lawns at around 16mm and 20mm in winter, providing they are watered correctly and a good ferterliser schedule they love it.
