Hi Rob, you are under charging in my view, as a DIY gardener I spent years playing with a manual rake, but then got myself an electric scarifyer, aerator. Shocked at how much effort, waste AND lawn improvement it makes. It slightley looks a lawn bugger when you hit it beginning of year but after seeing and dressing correctly the results are amazing. I always dread the graft scarifying but results worth the effort, if didn't enjoy gardening i would definitely recommend paying for this go be done if you want a top lawn. Keep the videos coming

The lawn was a bit of an L shape. Bought a rear roller for the new season. 👍🏻 It was a one off.
@mowtownni45872 жыл бұрын
Before I work out a price I use two tools, my boot and my finger. Is the moss that deep that you leave footprints? Is the moss deeper than your finger? Pull some of the moss out to check, because this is going to decide if you will do the regular two passes in different directions with no taking in between. Raking in between, or having to scale up to 4 or possibly more passes. So I don't follow the 3 times mowing charge as pushing a self drive mower is easy work compared to a scarifer, there is all the raking, and all the waste, my record is 15 well filled dumpy bags off one lawn.

I just got the toro scarifier I couldn’t afford the webang . I see what you mean about the extra effort. Multiple passes, lots of collecting all that thatch and moss and finding there’s a lot of green waste to get rid of . I’m going to be promoting scarifying to customers and weed and feed it’s not rocket science and I think once customers see the benefit they can be enticed to have it done more regular too( ie from none to twice a year)

Hi Rob great job.Hope it's ok to ask? Do you also use x3 principle for cutting hedges? I find that quite a few of my customers expect me to charge the same hourly rate no matter what task I do. 😩
@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and your comment Michael. I charge more for hedges, although I don’t do many during the season, as I am busy from now until November with weekly and fortnightly mowing/ maintenance work. I charge £40 per hour for hedge work, although I don’t tell the customer what the hourly rate is. I try to work out how long it will take x that by £40 plus waste. A three hour hedge £120 plus £40 waste. I hope that helps.

Thanks for the video Rob, I've actually just bought a secondhand hayter scarifier and I'm debating about how to charge for it... The 3x rule sounds fair but would you charge your regular mowing customers a one off fee or add on, example an extra £5 onto their fortnightly cut?

Don't forget that you have the machine to payback (return on investment), fuel, your travel time to and from the job, plus waste disposal to account for!
