I really appreciate these reviews that retain the same product for more than one year. It gives a more comprehensive insight, and the 'honeymoon' effect of a new product would have worn off.

Glad you found value in the video. I agree with your assessment of long term reviews. Much more valuable then the reviews after a day or week that most people do. Thanks for watching.

I have the same mower, I don't always have to use the self propelled on it. Don't have hills so since I'm not using so much the self propelled feature it doesn't lock up backing up . It can be annoying but most battery and some gas have that issue

This is the first mower I’ve encountered in the 17 years doing lawn maintenance that locks up the rear wheels. I tested the Milwaukee mower and it did not lock up the rear wheels when using the self propel and either did the greenworks version of this mower I saw that also had the metal transmission body. So probably a good indicator of a lower quality mower. Best of luck with the mower. Thanks for watching.

The 47cm ego does this as well. Sent mine back for a full refund as it’s utter dross battery life is crap and I had two rapid chargers and two new batteries and still it wouldn’t fully charge the batteries..

My 12 year old 21" gas powered Honda does the same thing on the self-propelled, just got used to it. My neighbor has the Green Works mower (they look a lot alike) and the self-propel action was with it as the Echo, another neighbor has the Stihl 460V, it too does the same. Bottom line, before you bad mouth the Echo ... the competitions do the same thing.

That just proves my point as ECHO market this as a commercial mower. It clearly is not anywhere close to being a commercial grade mower. It looks like the Greenworks because it’s made by the same company that make the Greenworks for ECHO. In fact if you like this mower then save yourself a pile of money and just buy the Greenworks version that is available in lots of stores and frequently on sale or bundled with a string trimmer and blower. In fact that would be the smarter choice as at least the batteries will be readily available and fit multiple tools across the greenworks line versus the proprietary shape and voltage made just for the ECHO. Just like ECHOs first line of battery tools discontinued after only 2-3 years. I just got the new Exmark Commercial 21 V-Series 60 volt mower and it does not lock up the rear wheels at all just like every other commercial grade mower including the Hondas I’ve used over the 18 years I’ve been in business. But then again it is the exact same mower as it’s gas counterpart including having the same transmission, with the exception of the motor of course. For a homeowner using it once a week on their own property the ECHO might be fine. But bottom line this channel and the videos on it are meant for lawn care business owners and as such I will tell it like it is, good or bad on every piece of equipment I review even if it was sent to me by a brand.

I have Echo PAS equipment with a 2620 power head and was thinking of having battery as an option and getting this mower as a backup to my Honda HRC2163HXC (looks similar to the HRC216HXA currently offered in the US, just the Canadian model). After listening to your review has been considered and I guess I will hold off, but it wasn't like it was on my immediate purchase list as I need to invest in a better tractor first.

After watching your video, I forgot to ask you: Did you fully charge and discharge your battery a few times to make the charge controller self-calibrate? This is probably why you get the weird readings on the four bar display. This is something you should do with any device that uses Lithium cells like power tools, computers and cell phones.

Yes I have at this point and it is still inconsistent. Along with the build quality of this unit I would have to advise against purchasing this mower. So many better options on the market for battery mowers. Thanks for watching.

The Milwaukee is also twice the price at 1100 plus tax , think I will stick with a decent gas mower for 250 for now anyways. E power cars and mowers are still too damn high.

Yeah battery stuff is definitely expensive. Especially for cheaply made lower spec units like this one that probably will not last. The Milwaukee is more expensive but it’s a quality built unit in my opinion. Thanks for watching.

Nope. None of the gas mowers with self propel I’ve used ever did that, and I have now also tested 3 other brands of battery mower including the Kress, the Milwaukee and the Exmark. All have self propel and don’t lock up the rear wheels. It’s just poor design or cheap quality. I suspect the latter based on the rest of the mower compared to others I’ve tried.

I really do like the Milwaukee tool lineup. The only issue with them for me is they are not weather rated to be used in active rain. So I keep gas powered equipment to use on those heavy rainy days. I’ve used the string trimmer and blower almost every day this year. In total I’ve only used about 2 gallons of mixed fuel this year. Thanks for watching.

I've owed both the 58V and now 56V line of Echo cordless tools. The 56V line is a huge step backwards IMO. The self propelled weird lockup is maddening. The 56V chainsaw doesn't have near the power the 58V did...I just don't get it. The 58V line wasn't perfect, but the 56V line is terrible. Who thought it was ok to have a battery cover that doesn't stay open on its own? Just junk.

Hey I hope echo comes out with a battery backpack blower this year
@LawnCareBusinessSuccess
@LawnCareBusinessSuccess Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure. I’m not in ECHOs UAG program anymore. I do remember them saying that a backpack blower was something that was not in the cards at least in the near future. Blowers apparently are the most draining on batteries. So to have a motor big enough to turn a large fan blade to get enough force comparable to a gas unit would kill a battery in a matter of a few minutes. I guess that’s why all the current back pack blowers are essentially hand held blowers in the handle with just the battery pack on your back. Thanks for watching.

There are two tools in the landscape business that I have yet to see any company legitimately attempt to have a commercial battery counterpart for: backpack blowers with at least 700 cfm and 230-250 mph and a pressure washer in the 3000-4200 psi range that can run a surface cleaner. If I wanted to replace my commercial landscape equipment today with battery counterparts, I would be able to obtain everything (including stand on and zero turn mowers) except the two items I mentioned above. Thanks for the informative review.

What electric cordless lawnmower do you think is best?

That’s hard to say as the Echo is the only one I have had the opportunity to use long term. The new Milwaukee M18 one I mentioned in the video I only got to try for a few minutes and the lawn I tried it on was already recently cut, so I can’t give a first hand account in terms of performance. But the Milwaukee build quality was much more robust. It felt like a quality mower and reviews I’ve seen seem very promising. It also did not suffer from the transmission locking up when reversing issue that is so frustrating with the echo. Thanks for watching.

EGO is the best. This is my second season with the mower, string trimmer and 40cc equivalent chainsaw. They are also coming out with a mini bike, wet dry vac, power washer and more. All their batteries will work with all their tools. Would be worth a look.

Don't write off the Echo, tried the Green Works, Stihl, an Ryobi that the neighbors own ... all three do the same thing just disengage the s/p about 12" before you turn, problem goes away. My 12 year old gas Honda does the same thing, have found most rear wheel drive self propell models have the same "hick-up". The commercial battery (Mill model) does have a different drive system, and for $1,000+ dollars it's got to have something special. I'm buying the Echo, I want something that my chainsaw, trimmer, an mower use the same battery. That's not always true with some of these machines.

Even my el-cheapo Ryobi 40V does not have that self propelled quirk. A machine of Echo's supposed quality should be better than that.

Except the problem is that it is only ECHO in name only. It’s made by Greenworks. In fact you can find the identical mower in green and black under the Greenworks brand. The only difference is the proprietary battery shape made for echo tools. Thanks for watching.

You do know plastics aren't weaker than metal? An abs, sure, but a glas fibre reinforced polypropylene, which wll tool conpanies use, it stronger, lighter and more flexible (resistant to damage by impacts) than steel of rhr se thickness. It also doesn't rust of course. If you don't understand a tool design, best not to draw a conclusion. If i were Echo I'd have legal send you a love letter.

You do know that reviews are based on personal opinion and previous experience don’t you? With that I will say that I stand by my comments that this unit is cheaply made. This past year I got to use two other brands of commercial battery mowers and that only proved my point. This ECHO model is very cheaply made and not worth the asking price. Especially given the fact it is a rebranded Greenworks model. Except it has proprietary battery shape that makes it even a worse buy. When the green works model can be found much lower priced and batteries for the green works are used in multiple Greenworks tools. If you look through the comments you will see others who have had similar experiences with this unit. As far as ECHO sending a love letter. That comment wins the most ridiculous comment of the year. Especially since ECHO sent this unit for me to review and they were the ones that when I first started making review videos in 2017 encouraged me to always share your honest opinion in reviews otherwise they won’t be authentic. That principle has guided my review videos ever since. Regardless if a brand sent out a tool for free or I purchased it.

Some things to check. Make sure the battery is charged and seated properly. Also that the little orange safety key is inserted by the batteries. Then make sure your squeezing the blade engagement lever while also pressing the power button. Thanks for watching.

@LawnCareBusinessSuccess
@LawnCareBusinessSuccess 10 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t say I want to throw it off a bridge but after trying a few other models long term I am justified in my assessment that the ECHO DLM2100SP is not worth the premium price they are asking. Definitely not a commercial mower. Just a rebranded consumer Greenworks mower. It’s probably fine for a homeowner once per week but at that point why pay a premium for orange paint and the ECHO name with a proprietary battery shape and voltage, when they don’t even make the unit. Might as well get the exact same mower in a more powerful 60v or even 80v Greenworks version from multiple retail sources using their common battery shape at much less cost. Commonly found on sale and even packaged together with their trimmer and blower at places like Costco for less than what they want for just the echo version of the mower.
