Hi John. I've been using your products for two years. My soil has changed a lot...it's squishy now...even in the heat of the summer. Another observation, this year, my lawn woke up at least 2 weeks before anyone else. I'm pretty certain I am the only person who has mowed in my county in NW Ohio...and I've mowed twice and layed down some beautiful stripes the last time.

I just spread a bag of Humic DG from The Anderson's (because I don't like liquid when it's so windy). My primary goal is to loosen the compacted clay from new construction. My front yard looks absolutely fantastic now since I dug up a few spots that were hiding some construction gravel and not letting the roots get down or absorbing the heat this summer. But my back yard has a few spots that are brown, thin, weak, and look really bad because of the compacted soil. I can't even get a pitchfork to penetrate more than an inch. So, I'm hoping this Humic treatment will help. I'm also planning of spreading a couple of bags of compost over those areas as well in hopes the rain will push some OM lower into the soil. Probably wishful thinking, but I'm not sure what else to do. I did aerate recently, but the ground is still like concrete in those spots. That's my story. I did want to add that you are obviously one super sharp dude and I really enjoy your videos. Very informative. Thanks for sharing. Would appreciate any thoughts you might have on my situation.

I understand about all this humic/bio char and other soil enrichments for lawns and gardens because I use them with awesome results. Using any of these items will aid in soil. Say if I use 1lb of humic granular form in a 10' x 10' area. One area uses liquid spray humic that's 8oz with 1 gallon of water in a 10'x 10' area. In my opinion the 1lb granular will benefit more because there is more humic. Most spray humic product with 2 gallons of water says to use 3, 8 oz or more of their product in a 1,000 to 2,000 foot area. The math does not add up to fully cover the area with humic. A 10' x 10' area will most likely get 1oz or less of humic in liquid form. The area would need pounds and pounds of humic to fully take advantage of the product. Using humic in soil aids no matter what with granular or liquid. But, using liquid will need a lot of product to fully take advantage of the humic to work. Adding granular per pound will make a greater impact vs ounces. Using Humic takes years to make enriched soil. Little by little will help. So adding a lot of liquid humic will not harm your soil because it's watered down already. I believe a whole gallon of liquid humic watered down in a 1,000 to 2,000 area will not harm the soil and grass but will benefit it. These are my options about humic in the soil. It's just an additive/aid to enrich the soil and no matter how much you add will not harm it. When you add humic by granular or liquid, Don't worry how fast or slow it will penetrate into the soil. As long as you added the humic. It will work/aid in the soil. Let nature take it's course to make the humic work. It's like adding top soil...a little or a lot to your existing soil. You're just enhancing it to make it more beneficial to the lawn or garden. That's what humic does. Add different kinds of soil amendments, experience with different products for your lawns and gardens. Just read the labels and do lots of research. Just remembered Humic and BioChar is not a Fertilizer. It's Soil Amendments/Enrichments.

This is a well thought out and organized synopsis. So the thing to consider is if the granular with the higher amount of acid is usable or if you're getting more benefit from the added carbon. Releasing the acid takes a chemical exchange to have it be viable, this is why the liquid produces a plant response as there is a quick exchange happening in the soil. basically, it takes less material to to get the desired result.
@icaughtyoubasstard4877
@icaughtyoubasstard4877 4 жыл бұрын
Understandable. As long as one adds Humic liquid or granular form. It will still benefit in a quick response or a slower response.

@@Lawncology So could granular humic be seen as a sort of slow release humic? In other words granular humic is to liquid humic as polycoated urea is to urea?

I spent quite a bit of time over the winter listening to guys like Gabe Brown talk about soil health and how synthetic fertilizers, specifically salts were sterilizing the microbes in the soil. If you could clarify for me, as I'm a little confused what we are trying to accomplish. I'm completely open-minded but I need to understand how we use synthetic fertilizers to improve the soil. I know this is a really loaded question but I've got some gaps missing that I need To fill in. We've got a lot of really crappy soil here in Colorado I'm trying to give my customers a fresh approach that will finally solve their problems.

Great video John. My lawn has improved year over year, but I still have some weak spots. Is it ok to "Spray it Black?", or, in other words, put a large volume of Humid 12 on the weak spots? Specifically, still dilute at the 7:1 ratio of water to Humic 12, but put a higher volume on the weak or bare areas? I have dug these areas up, and can't find any construction debris underneath. @@bryanfelver6125 I seem to recall he answered that in a previous video. In that video he said that it is not necessary to add microbes rather it is better to feed the microbes that are already there. That's why Dethatch contains molasses to feed and excite the microbes that are already there. Only a little mind you. We don't the bacteria to get lazy and wait for more molasses but get excited and then feed aggressively on the organic matter in the thatch layer of the soil.

two different things, think of char as a sponge, super porous, super electric.It can capture nutrients in the soil solution and keep them from washing with water, as well as bring some aeration to the soil. Anything thing that was in the source material will have been burned out to leave only carbon. humic acid and bio char can compliment each other very well.

I really started to use Humic two years about with the Humic12 product (4 times a yra). I then increased that last year. I would use a granular Humic product in between my Humic12 applications. This leads me to my question, and it comes down to what I noticed. When I applied Humic every 4 weeks (alternating Granular and Liquid), the soil seemed to retrain water better. Is this because of the better soil structure, or does Humic provide some water retention benefits to clay soils? It seemed to soften my clay soil a bit. I struggled last spring due to cold weather and a late June start as I am in Colorado, and getting water to penetrate my ground was limited. The summer was awful for water retention, but by late summer and on into fall the Humic really seemed to take hold and assist my fertilizer and build that soil structure up. I did do a mechanical soil aeration in September, but I still feel it was the Humic that helped the soil and allowed more water to penetrate. I of course used air8, but it never had the same effects right away as just a good old Humic application. Maybe, the humic was releasing the air8 and allowing it to do its thing....but I will do both again this year and look forward to continued success in getting my soil right.

Adding both granular and liquid will enrich your soil as you notice by adding More then the basic amount from liquid. The more you add of Humic the better esp if you use both kinds granular and liquids. Keep adding each year and it will hold in more water in the soil. This will produce a thicker and greener lawn every year! If you read my post on here it will explain more about it from my opinion and results.

Thanks for sharing all your knowledge. So to sum it all up ...humid acid is a product that helps “unlocking” already available nutrients in the soil ? Question: How effective is it as a stand alone application? What’s the time commitment in order to see changes in your lawn/soil? Are we talking months or years?
@Lawncology
@Lawncology 4 жыл бұрын
Depending on what’s in your soil, changes can happen very very fast. Standalone it’s great in midsummer

First, you said "In our products". What are your products, do you work for a chemical company? Secondly, I'm mostly interested in helping some trees on my property, namely citrus and Queen palms. My soil is very hard packed, dry and pretty much devoid of biomatter (AZ Desert). Would you go this route or liquid aeration first? Thank you

It is what it is. Humic is so beneficial to fertilizer programs and the results of proper application are fantastic. It’s not a fertilizer, it’s never claimed to be one. It does show the ability to enhance a plant beyond fertility. Some people just need views….

Is it true that humic acid will reverse the damage of roundup/glyphosate to some extent? Used in clay soil in Georgia. The herbicide is said to tie up nutrients in the soil and starve the plant, making it more susceptible to diseases, among other things.

First time listener and now following. Great information!!! I have a small yard, roughly 500 sq ft. I used Scott's Weed and Feed with crabgrass preventer in mid March. Seemed to work well, but I would like to prepare my yard for over seeding hopefully this fall with a KBG mix. My question to you is what products do you recommend? And where can I order them? My grass is in descent shape but nothing special. But I want to make it pop!!! Any help would be appreciated...

Due to circumstance I was forced to seed fescue in spring (5-11-20) and we’ve already had a few days over 100 here in California. My in ground irrigation system is pretty solid (Tuna can tested it), tilled in 3/4” organic compost at 8” to the entirety of the yard and the grass is growing in pretty thick. There is one small section however that is struggling a bit. I’ve mowed the rest of the lawn twice at 3 1/2” but the struggling grass was untouched both times. Could painting it black or just adding some humic be beneficial to my struggling baby grass?

Is there a limit amount of how much can be Applied per year? Can too much be bad?
@Lawncology
@Lawncology 4 жыл бұрын
There’s a point of diminishing returns with everything. I have general guidelines for where I see the best return for the investment/soil results. This is a max of 10 gallons per acre annually. Typically the app season total is 5-7. I have applied to areas for years that are 1000x that rate at our plant I’m Georgia and completely changed the soil. It’s not a cost effective method by any means. But we transformed hardpan clay to top soil more than a foot deep in that time.
