you know you found a good guy when he cant talk about renovating a lawn while seemingly putting mo effort into shoving how much more educated and well versed he is in the matter down your throat. Best teachers are humble. (also the intermission to play with your dog while explaining lawn tips also shows your character.

This isn't a renovation, this should be typical yearly maintenance except for the topdressing, it's not needed on a home lawn unless your wanting something short like Tee height or lower

I got one of those hollow tine manual aerators, this will be the 3rd year using it. First year was like trying to core cement! Id jump on the aerator with 100odd kilos of might and itd just go in about 5mm. Last year i pretty much bottomed out everywhere except main foot traffic areas. 100% recommend aerating if you have never done so. It will (and has made) a world of difference.

It's funny because in France even very well-maintained lawns are not to this extent (exept in golfs), this one would have seemed to me to be in superb condition even though I am a landscaper. But we don't have the same approach to landscaping at all. You're doing a good job. Big up From France!

Seeing you beat this lawn right down makes me feel a bit better about mine. I dethatched and then scarified mine and it was looking really rough, and I thought I might have taken it too far, but it seems to be recovering. I did overseed as well and watered for a few days and now we’ve got several days of rain which makes my life a lot easier. New York so it’s cool season grass. I feel I’m being sucked into the rabbit hole of lawn care and by next year I might be ordering in truckloads of sand and buying a reel mower. Jk I don’t think I’ll ever take it that far but these KZbin lawns always look beautiful. It’s certainly a lot of work though.

When you go to find the update from the latest video, and realise it's autumn in the UK and spring in Aus 😭 - This vid was so cool though. Just started doing a bit of work on my dad's lawn as he neglects it a bit. Don't think he'd be happy if I scalped it all the way back next spring, although I'm tempted after watching this! PLT: If using an aerating machine, good idea to disinfect the tines before using. Lots of lawn diseases to worry about without injecting some other guy's problem into your lawn. A bucket with some bleach and soap is all it takes. A hose and a spray bottle of bleach might suffice.

Why do people think this a renovation? It's not, it's typical yearly maintenance you should do on your yard. I would verticut over aeration for regular yards, any superintendent would tell you that. Renovations are much bigger projects than something you can do in one day typically. Regrassing, sod, New drainage, completely new soil, things like that. If you take care of your yard regularly than yearly maintenance it keeps looking good. Renovations are things you do over longer periods because they last longer like drainage.

Great video, mate! Good to see Aussie content. Have subbed and will check out the rest of your content. I have bought a 20+ year rental in country NSW and the "lawn" is a mongrel mix that has probably only ever been slashed a few times a year before rental inspection. Plan is to kill it and grow a new one since turf is out of the budget!

Scalped, scarified, cored, top dressed, fertilised, added pre emergent and black beetle dust to my Zoysia last weekend. One week later she's pushed through 75% of the top dressing, happy days. Followed your advice from last years lawn reno thanks. Couldn't get USGA sand so went with a coarse washed river sand, might be a bit too course but the lawn is built on an underlay that is pretty fine sand and heaps of organics, hoping the course stuff drops down the core holes so its doesn't feel so spongy under foot. P.S What's the orange robot thing in the background around the 8:30 mark?

Hi, great work! The information you provided is incredibly valuable. I have a question regarding the application of granular fertilizer and over-seeding. In many videos, it's recommended to apply the granular fertilizer (and over-seeding if applicable) BEFORE spreading the top dressing. The idea is that having the fertilizer in direct contact with the grass encourages faster and better growth to push through the top dressing, and the cuts and holes from verticutting and core aeration provide pockets for the seeds to germinate under the top dressing. However, I noticed that you applied your fertilizer after spreading the top dressing. Could you share your thoughts on this approach? Best regards, Niels

This is my second Reno. First time I brought in top soil after I killed my grass. This time I scalped as low as possible and used a dethacher. I still have dead grass all over and wondering if this will be a problem when o put down seed? Can I see into it and maybe try to rake the seed in as much as possible? Or do I need bare dirt???

Enjoyed this video and motivated me enough to schedule my own lawn renovation! I'd like to ask your opinion on my methodology: Part of the reason I want to renovate my lawn is that I have a lot of moss (Southern Washington State climate, Vancouver to be exact). I am planning to scalp>scarify>aerate>level>topdress>overseed>fertilize my entire lawn - do you recommend me treating my lawn with a moss killer as part of my lawn renovation, or will the scalping and scarifying solve my moss problem? (Part of the reason I'm renovating my lawn is to nurse my soil back into shape; it is densely compacted and I think that's a big cause of the moss.) I was considering putting down a heavy application of 'Moss Out" or similar product a week or so before I scalp/scarify. What would you do?

I do a Reno each year on my dwarf Kikuyu and my tiftuf lawns, but only cut down to dirt and give a light top dress. I was looking at buying a Predator 510 dethatcher next season. You only used a groomer. Do you think it is necessary to get a dethatcher, scarifier and groomer. Would the groomer be enough, or would the other attachments be handy during the growing season? Seems pointless having all the gear if I don't need it. Would appreciate your feedback
