You mentioned that you were going to upset people, so I have to say that I AM VERY UPSET!!! I am furious that this one day of Jovie's presidency makes so much more sense than all of those long years I've been following American politics. I'm angry that these issues somehow aren't just common sense - things that every president already should have implemented! I'M YELLING AT MY SCREEN RIGHT NOW! WHY ISN'T JOVIE PRESIDENT FOR ONE DAY?

I would add 2 things: higher minimum wage, with no exceptions (like $2 an hour for waiters, who have to rely on tips). And I would make education free or very cheap. A well educated society on the long term is more profitable for everybody, in terms of innovation, happiness, wealth. In turn they contribute more in taxes when they reach their work life, which benefits the education of the new generations. One can dream...

See and See. All the things the US people is longing for is what we had in the so called 'communist' time during the time of SOVJET. Most of the West European countries bee sent to see how the system were set up as ideology and they find it was GREAT as far as INVEST IN THE PEOPLE IS VERY IMPORTAND FOR A FUNCTIONING SOCIETY... I been grown up like that and I KNOW IT NOT JUST WORK but the nearly ONLY WAY to make peace and harmonic generations with confident and consideration.

Just remove the tip as part of the wage calculation. A tip should be on top of the wage as token of appreciation (basically how it's done in many places), not part of the base salary.

A variation on the minimum wage/maximum wealth idea: no CEO to earn more than 200 times the wages of the lowest paid employee. You could still give yourself a $1,000,000 pay rise, but you'd have to give your lowest paid employee a $5,000 pay rise at the same time. You'd still be 200 times richer than him/her, so what's to complain about? Happy New Year! 🎊

Great points, I agree 100%. And most things you mention are not even unrealistic, they allready exist in some shape or form in other countries, so it’s just a matter of choice if they’re implemented or not. But before anything can change the US needs to ban corporate money from politics.
@corneystam
@corneystam Жыл бұрын
Well . . .the ban on billionaires is going to be a problem. Because most billionaires are the owners of companies. And most of their fortune is in shares of these companies. If these persons or families can’t keep those shares, it would mean that these companies all would fall into the hands of some head funds, investors that don’t care about the long term vision and health of these companies, or moral issues for that matter.

And also make it mandatory for drivers to stop when a pedestrian is in a cross walk. I probably could go on but like I said you covered the big issues that ultimately made us leave the States.

I think that if some of Jovies suggestions would be taken over, this also creates more grounds for things you mention. By cutting of funding from companies and lobby organizations - which don't wan the chsanges you mention because that hurts their profits - eventually you would get a more healthy assembly of politicians that much better represent the people (instead of the companies and lobby organizations that pay them). That said, it's no harm to mention these things explicitly ;-)

There is 'some' found for this for the schools but not much The teachers with meetings ( with the parents when all is there at the same time ) is disgust and agree how much is the limit the parents can contribute to. Also the kids usually visiting and staying in other countries school and some time if the budget is too low they my sleeping on the matrasses in the gym hall all together . It is only for a 2-3 days they do that. No. I'm against the death penalty too and it could and should be abolished completely. First, you're letting them get away with it too easy by killing them. There are other ways of punishment and being locked up for a very long time seems like a bigger punishment than dying to me. By committing those kind of crimes, the criminals already know that the risk of dying comes with the crime. There are also more ways to punish people than to lock them up. What that punishment would be might differ from person to person. In my opinion it would always involve teaching the criminal how awful it was what they did instead of just locking him or her up. That might include mandatory concersation with their victims if those victims are interested in that. Or getting (a lot of) psychiatric treatment. Or for religious people to let a priest or rabbi or imam or monk teach them that no, their god isn't ok with this. And depending on how much they might improve, they could get more or less freedoms or rewards (like a bigger cell, a tv, more books, more time outside, a less strict prison, etc.).

"oh but that's my personality, i need to be busy" NO your body will fail you, your brain will crash. Sit down and chil knowing somethings can be done for you. Enjoy life. Feel safe. Learn to do nothing and breathe once in a while. Don't schedule anything every moment of every day. Could you also add better national public transportation. Each major city needs to have a better railway connection to eachother. And it should be more affordable.

For anyone that has an issue with corporate tax just remember that the US is a country where heads of companies own around 200 billion $ in wealth. Now, to put that into perspective, lets say you have an amazing job and you earn a whopping 200.000$ per year. That is so little compared to these behemoths, that you would have had to earn that from the moment money was invented, and roughly around now you would finally earn your first 1 billion. And these guys have 200 of those... (to earn that you will need to have earned 40 million per year since money was invented) in all of those years, you will not have spent any of that, it will have gone straight into the piggy bank. There is no reason why anyone should have that kind of meaningless wealth. There is no job that needs doing that requires someone earning multiple billions per year. The money that goes around in these corporations can fund a nation, yet they often pay 0$ in tax, and that bill falls upon us, the people who earn nowhere near the numbers listed above.

Thanks for including my number one issue, which I think everything else depends on getting done: money in politics. It's proven scientifically US politicians hardly ever do what the voters want/need. But they'll do what their biggest donors want. You kind of touched on it, but education should be accessible. No more high student debt. Let's get some critical thinking in our young people. And we need to do something about the media, I'm not sure what, but let's have the news programs stick to facts they have multiple sources for. And it should be clearly labelled when it's just opinion, etc.

Maybe the media should be subject to heavy fines when they 1) publish so-called "facts" that are not supported when they are talking specifically about individuals, or maybe even commercial enterprises and 2) use false logic to support false arguments. Hey! I love these sorts of pretend videos and you have some cool opinions :P I also really appreciate the subtitles for those who need them. I know how time-consuming it is to make subtitles, especially for unscripted videos! I was wondering if maybe it could make more sense to put the captions in youtube's captioning system instead of being baked into the video? I feel like that could be more convenient for two reasons. 1) it allows those who need the captions to position them anywhere in the video by clicking and dragging and 2) it allows people who don't want captions to toggle them on and off.

The president doesn’t make or change laws. Congress does that. The House proposes a new law and if it passes it goes to the Senate and they have to pass then the president signs off or doesn’t and if the president does the Supreme Court has to review it. That’s how the game works.

8:30 well, the constitution doesn't actually give that right. It gives the right to a _well regulated_ militia run by _states_ to bear arms. Not private militias. Basically the national guard is what the amendment is about. At least as far as I as a Dutch bloke can find what actual constitutional lawyers and judges think about it. But yeah, better to get rid of the whole thing as people keep misinterpreting it knowingly anyway. 11:00 well, nice idea one person one house, but the thing is.... plenty of people aren't able to buy a house. So you'd still have to have rental houses, that still need to be owned somewhere. Maybe a non-profit or the local government.

I would change the housing zone laws and make it illegal to build new spread-out suburbs. Improve and create more density of people in already existing neighborhoods. This will create more viable public transport and bike paths. That in turn will remove the people's NEED to own a car (cars have a huge cost for families, society and the environment) and that in turn will build better, friendlier, greener, more social and safer communities. Long story short: If I was president of the USA, I would build better cities and towns and villages from a civic enginering perspective. PS. But I would start with the death penalty, because that is Middle Ages stuff!

Further to your 3rd law (funding of politicians), I suggest that you should additionally make politicians be transparent to who has lobbied for a law. Re your change to voting for the US President, the current system is part of a check and balance to stop a group having too much power in the federal government, the founding fathers of the US rejected direct election of the president to stop an abuse of power. As a resident of the UK I prefer Parliamentary democracy, consider looking at India, they are large, have multiple states, multiple ethnicities, and they don’t have the UK monarch as head of state.

My nephew, my sisters youngest kid somehow got ahold of her boy friends loaded pistol couple months ago. And shot himself in the groin area... he's okay. It miss all major organs according to my sister. I live in Idaho. My sister lives in Spokane Washington. You would have so many freaking out... you would need to describe a licensings or registration program as many of us (including myself own guns) for various sportsman activities from target practicing to hunting. So long as you describe a way to own some fire arms for those purposes, you would be okay.... not really LOL! That one would have so many up in arms... no pun intended. Seriously, people here even if they don't have any guns or have a few or just one, find it the only unquestionable power they have in life, to own a gun. Kind of like the youth right now, only unquestionable power they have is to rename themselves and have you address them by some random often made up pronoun. A type of insanity going on here. And it's all about maintaining whatever unquestioned power one thinks they have. Even if it means foregoing powers they should have but don't. Like universal healthcare, like safe societies where crimes become fewer, where those how commit crimes are rehabilitated as much as possible instead of essentially forced into a life a crime as they're branded with a criminal conviction, an unaffordable housing problem both in terms of rent or buying, decent pay and income, sick time.. freaking sick... we don't have any laws on the books promising sick time, and paid sick time at that. I mean most employers are providing the very minimal vacation/paid time off... 2 to 3 work weeks generally... and some even worse. And we certainly need a daycare program. I don't have kids myself yet, but I know the costs lately. Almost as bad as housing. With a recent rash of senseless gun accidents just here in Idaho over the past ten years, and compounded by all the murders and mass murders... especially the mass murders as they're almost exclusively committed using firearms; I really want a registry and licensing of some sort.... doesn't have to be difficult. Just to ensure people have education on them, and its marked that they have one. Something. And no more ridiculous military like weaponry. That's uncalled for... under extreme sportsman perhaps a special permit requirement, otherwise NO! Why? You don't need it!

As a non American it's so sad to here these things. I do understand it's impossible to change the system overnight, even though I'd be all for Jovie's suggestion. But it would really help if there would be stricter laws that at least regulate who can own a gun under what conditions. It's not like we in The Netherlands can't own a gun, if you have a good reason, are mentally fit, have some training and keep the gun safe you can have a gun. I just can't grasp why anyone in the US would be against a law that at least would require some kind of psychological assessment before you buy a gun - that seems to me be the bare miminum. You just don't want every idiot being able to wave around a gun... And then that whole militia thing - any scenario I can make up in my mind basically leads to some kind of apocalyptic chaos of men with too much testoron taking things in their own hands 🤣. You can't be shocked about shooting incidents and at the same time say you can buy a gun without any restrictions. In my simple reasoning that's plain stupid and hypocritic. And the statistic on shooting incidents in the US compared to the rest of the world is shocking and should be alarming enough to change things yesterday. And of course: here comes in Jovie's change to change funding in politics. If politicians aren't funded by big companies and lobby organizations you would rule out for a good part these issues. NRA most likely doesn't represent a majority of the Americans, but has it's tentacles in Washington firmly found - and probably not just in Republican party I suspect.

Happy New Year, Jovie! When will the Jovie2024 campaign start? BTW, there's one inconsistancy : You already abolished guns, so you can leave the legal age for drinking at 21. It's also better for the development of the brain (Less Medical costs in the long run).

Along with employer based insurance, I would also get rid of the uniquely American concept of "at will employment". Great video, but I would like to comment on the non-opt-out subtitles that repeatedly use the word "gonna". We native speakers do talk like this, of course, but seeing it transcribed in subtitles is somewhat distracting.

And finally to honour the Dutch heritage: more bikelanes and bike parkings inside urban areas to start with.

I saw this video on the front page of KZbin and just had to watch it now! 3:05 I hope you'll get well soon. 6:56 I seem to remember that there are more than 2 parties in the United States. 13:06 I would like to see decisions based on science. Other than that. *inhales* Jovie for President!

"I seem to remember that there are more than 2 parties in the United States" - obviously there's no law there only can be 2 parties. But the system is set up in such a way the biggest parties keep eachother in a gridlock, more or less changing "majority" every 4 or 8 years or so giving other parties close to 0% serious chance to participate. Also both parties look a lot like eachoter. Democrats are a bit more progressive, but would be consider right wing in pretty most the rest of the world. There's not a real choice. I think Jovie's suggestion to change the funding of politicians would be an important step to change this, since big companies and lobby organizations rule de facto because they pay the politicians. If this would be made impossible and there's an equal funding no tied to anyone/any company you remove an important factor that causes this gridlock. Another suggestion, removing the electoral college, would be also an important instrument to fix this and I would extend it to the entire district system. Especially since the system can be manipulated by gerrymandering (seriously, I can't think of ANY reason why this is a great idea... in other words: it's completely and utterly insane). I do have say I have some bias for a district-ish system, because here in The Netherlands the completely non-District system leads to underrepresentation of parts of the country (about 75% of 2e kamerleden is from the Randstad, while not even half of the people live there - if you know how things in Groningen went wrong you can see the negative side of this). I still haven't found a good compromis between the Dutch system and district system, but I bet it's possible to come up with something more foolproof.

you are so correct with the laws you wish to change, but jovie, what about immigration reform ? or remove the 3 and 10 year ban on an esta, that is way too long. prices for forms are too high. maybe there is a reason for that but I would change that also. You would be a really good president !!

I'm just 3 minutes into the video, but major upgrade with the microphone!. I love you content, but your voice always sounded too low in comparison with the music. Now it's perfect. Thanks for the change, it makes it easier to listen to you while doing other stuff.

It's a nice list, i think I would abandon picking judges for the (supreme) court by politicians and probably the jury duty as well. Beside donations to politicians i would also curb lobbyists. Some of them are drawing new laws because the politicians themselves have a lack of staff...

The. Death penalty is a form of human sacrifice. The death penalty does not deter crime. It does not murder. So the purpose of the death penalty is to not deter crime or murder because crime and murder or higher in death penalty States. Like all human sacrifice, the purpose of the death penalty is to keep an unfair human social order in place.

Couple of things. When you have no landlords, how can you rent a place (business or private)? You are forced to always buy a property? Second, if a start a business and it becomes very successful and I still own 100%, am I forced to sell parts of that company because I am now worth more than 30 million?

Of course renting a house is still possible. In the Netherlands we have so-called housing corporations. These not-for-profits have as their only goal to rent out decent houses for starters and other low income people. As for billionaires, I guess Jovie would create a tax bracket of 100% for those that actually make more than 30 million as soon as they sell their shares.

Generally great but about the 1 person 1 home thing: being able to rent especially when you're young and starting out is important. No way students going to unit will be able or should buy a house. Renting has a useful function in Society

France pay the party depending on the number of votes. There is a very very hard upper limit as one party got reminded few year ago (they got nothing instead of 12 millions euros … they needed to do a fundraising after that 😂)

Jovie i agree with on most of your policies but a few differences 1. Just say universal health care and its optional to pay health insurance for better treatment if you choose, in that way the poorest people are looked after.2. In new Zealand politicians campaigns are supported by taxpayers money but not sure to what extent, I know of a politician that lost his job for taking money from private donors.3. The biggest one, I disagree with is abolishing guns cause its not fair on the majority of guns owners that have them as a hobby and they're perfectly sane people, I have nothing against that.the only thing that annoys is they need to be honest and just say you love guns and its your hobby instead of saying its your patriotic duty.look I think the only way foreward is just background checks and the nra should stay away from the politicians.also a lot of proud Americans gun owners just need to show some empathy towards the victims instead of getting all toxic about it.
