Well done this video. By people who know what they talk about. Did not see you buy gems, though. I made screenshots of the open tumbler wet polishing a variety of stones. Hope to find out more about this technology.
@Lawsongems Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the video. If you want to find out more about that style of tumbler, they are called vibratory tumblers. They are generally better than rotary tumblers and they less likely to damage less tough stones and can be more quiet as well. You can usually pick these up from lapidary or jeweller supply stores (they are used for bulk polishing jewellery too), however if you want to pick up the exact same machine, usually for a much much cheaper price, you should actually try a gun shop. Vibratory tumblers are actually used for cleaning brass bullet casing when reloading ammunition and for some reason gun industry doesn't put the large markups on the exact same tumblers that the gem and jewellery industries do 😅.
@NickVenture1 Жыл бұрын
@@Lawsongems Ohh. Such a valuable reply. Did I expect so much? No.. but thanks to this information I will look out for these machines. Still I plan to build a large barril tumbler after having seen such made by a KZbinr. Suitable for larger size rocks.

Thanks for showing how rubies are mined and how the Thai people are included in prospering for the gems. I wanted to know pricing and hear about deals. Is a trip worth it? Can the Thai people selling gems, on the whole, be trusted or are they all pretty much a bunch of slight of hand salesmen (like street selling in the U.S.?
@Lawsongems5 жыл бұрын
It depends on where you go, but as a general rule of thumb I don't recommend people with no experience to go to the mines. Your best bet would be to start somewhere like Bangkok where there is a fluorishing gem trade and it is also very tourist firndly (though there are still many people that will try to scam you). Before doing any kind of gem buying trip I would advise as much study as possible, ideally going through a gemmological institute like GIA, Gem-A, AIGS, GAA etc. There are a million and one ways you can be cheated when it comes to gemstones so the more knowledge you have before you start the better!

Do a hardness test on your quartz... diamond is even lighter than silicone dioxide.. close packed cubic is the exact same thing as close packed hexagonal... depends on which way you look at it.. sapphire is very heavy... diamond is very light... my research indicates fault line diamonds occur in a solid solution series like plageoclase feldspar... carbon ==> silicon carbide
