Hey Guys! After our EXO Tempo reaction, a lot of you guys requested we react to Zhang Yixing who also goes by LAY. In EXO, he was known as Lay Exo, but now it's just Lay I guess. So the song we're reacting to is called namanana, and this is the chinese version so in chinese it's called 夢不落雨林. It's funny cause we thought this was a kpop reaction, but it wasn't until I was editing that I realized that the song is actually in English. Before this though, we actually watched some clips of LAY pre-debut, and his predebut clips were interesting, you'll see how it is! But all we have to say is for this namanana video, he definitely did a lot of dance practice leading up to it :)
Also, he's getting really popular in the west! He even did an interview with buzzfeed in English! We were surprised to see that he did a collaboration with Jason Derulo called let's shutup and dance which we checked out after :)

BTW WE KNOW WE GOT A LOT WRONG! Sorry guys! We try to go for like first time watching reaction with little context so we can get a fresh opinion of him. At the same time, I know it's not fun to hear wrong facts about your favourite artists, so we definitely understand how you guys feel. Zhang Yixing didn't leave EXO. He made arrangements with the management to allow him to expand his solo career in China. And he works really hard to dance so well today, he shared that when he's a trainee he dances more than 10hrz everyday, taking only 10mins break for meals and he has serious back problems from intense dancing.

Ok I commented this somewhere but imma post it here too cuz i lOvE mAh mAn (and the rest of EXO, I adore them all). Ok, so, to those who’re confused as to what the fuck is going on with Yixing and EXO: He’s still in the group, but not allowed to promote with them too much due to political issues between China and S. Korea regarding THAAD (for some contextual background, THAAD is an anti-ballistic missile defense system which was originally an American missile defense system adopted to protect itself and accessory territories if needed from N. Korea since Kim Jong-un announced N. Korea’s development of a nuclear missile program which ended up threatening S. Korea; S. Korea being somewhat an accessory territory of the US, decided to launch the American missile program. With American troops still currently stationed in S. Korea however, N. Korea has been hesitating on its supposed attack plans, and then China got involved due to its economic ties with N. Korea and now it thinks that S. Korea will use the THAAD program to spy on Chinese troop movements and it’s own missile programs, and then relay that intelligence to America. There’s also a WHOLE lot of shit going on between Beijing specifically, and N. Korean trade as well as defectors, which S. Korea, particularly Seoul, doesn’t like, obviously. Russia, Taiwan, and Japan are also somehow involved in all this fuckery but I honestly don’t know how so I can’t say). Anyway, I believe someone mentioned this, but Yixing is also the Hunan Province Communist Youth League Ambassador of China, and therefore holds a somewhat arguably political position in China in terms of authority (although I doubt he has actual sway over the Chinese government), which is the *main* reason why he’s unable to promote much with EXO unlike other Chinese artists in KPop groups (they’re not influencing any politics in China). Yixing’s social standing with EXO has been very tricky because of this political mess (they’re still close, they just don’t see each other much; they were literally banned from seeing each other in the near past at one point), but recently the Hallyu (Korean entertainment/product boycott/economically cut ties, etc.) ban was lifted in China, and he was able to participate in the Tempo comeback (which is why he ONLY had lines in the Mandarin version of the song, not the Korean version; general sociopolitical tensions between China and S. Korea still exist, although economically they seem to be back on track) and travel to S. Korea to be with the boys for EXO’s 7th anniversary a about a week or so ago. This is also partially the reason as to why he’s been promoting independently in China as a solo artist as well as an EXO member. He’s also been branching out to different regional markets, notably his recent American debut. This is not only a strategic career move on his part, but a political move as well since (as an Ambassador) he’s also hoping to improve relations between America and China (what with the ongoing trade war and the USA’s ties to S. Korea and N. Korea, both HUGE economic partners of China). All in all, he’s a gem of a person, really wise, and hella talented. Sorry if this shitpost got waaay too fucking long, I just really enjoy international sociopolitical and economic relations.

Going into it blind, I guess I can see how you might have thought it was a Korean song, since he's an EXO member. And a lot of people that don't follow EXO don't understand Lay's situation, so you shouldn't feel bad about that! Lay is the only current Chinese member of EXO (there used to be 3 others), and his solo career is focused in China. His music has been exclusively in Mandarin up until the release of his album NAMANANA October of last year, for which he recorded each song in both English and Mandarin. It's still on the World Album charts at number 13! He speaks English, and has been doing collaborations with western artists (Alan Walker, Jason Derulo, Far East Movement, Bazzi (who he wrote several songs with), etc) over the past year or so.

Lay has not left EXO. There was a 2 year ban on the Korean Wave in China, and due most likely, to his type of Visa, he was not allowed, to actually work during this ban. Yes, there are plenty other Chinese artists going between China and Korea, and are still working with their groups. The members of EXO, while mostly likely not the first, are probably some of the oldest Chinese members to have debuted in Korea, which was back in 2012. Now, given the ban, it seems between both China and Korea, he was caught in the middle, and it was best to pursue his work, at home, in China. This is his third album, not his first. Last year he officially had his official American debut and toured the states. He has built his own studio, as he is a seasoned songwriter, composer and producer. He is the last remaining Chinese member of EXO leaving the group, at 9 members. Kris, Luhan and Tao left due to unfair practice under SM. Lay chose to stay despite these problems which still, to some degree exist.

This is the title song from his album Namanana. The album has 11 English songs and 11 Chinese versions of the same songs. You may want to check out his English version ‘Give me a chance’ MV. Lay is amazingly talented, he composes and produces his own album.

Just want to clarify that the music Lay is composing and producing right now is M-pop, not K-pop. Namanana is actually very Lay's style that you can hear the heavy bass at the background and for this album, he is kind of focusing on the rainforest theme. And he designed the MV with the director and really spent a lot on this music video. If u guys cannot understand his Chinese version of namanana, there is an English version too. Also, for EXO's Tempo, he just participates a little cuz he cannot go to the comeback stages and other group activities in Korea and some members in Exo is going to serve in the army very soon, so he came back to unite with other members.

No Lay is still with EXO, but just has a really busy schedule as an really famous artist/actor in China and now he is pursuing a solo career in the USA market so that is why he does not have time for group comebacks (even tho i wish he does :( )
