I’m not a native speaker of English. I have learnt the English language as a foreign language in formal educational settings. I’ve been following you for a while and I have learnt a lot from you especially concerning the natural usage of English. Thanks a lot and keep up the good work, please. As you already pointed out, the verbs “lay” and “lie” are different in terms of transitiveness. For instance, you can lay an object on the ground or any flat surface. On the other hand, someone and/or an agent lies on the sofa or floor. However, I never happened to hear or see anywhere that lay and lie could be used synonymously and interchangeably.

great lesson. I was confused because the books and some teachers make the distinction between those verbs.

I thought lie down meant to recline and lay down takes an object. I guess we make amends for folks who cannot comprehend basic English rules.

This was always so confusing to me🙈 because Americans say Lay-laid-laid and British lie- lay-lain, and now I knew that the British way just isn't used in the USA and I don't need to stick to it)

What is the difference between persons, people and peoples?
@cleberandrade2 жыл бұрын
Person is a human being with his thinking and individual behaviour. Persons is the plural form. People is the collective for a "bunch" of human body or even persons, but without taking in account its individual behaviour. People is the plural form. You can say "No more than six persons can occupy this elevator" but not "six people", because it doesn't make sense. You can also say "Americans are an interesting people", but not "interesting persons". Well, maybe you can, but it will have a different meaning...

I had been trying to figure out how to use lie and lay using GPT for 30 minutes. And this thing has completely confused me in the end of the day. Found your vid here and TA-DA🎉 5 min and I’m done with this confusing words.
