I held off setting up the hot tub until the Christmas period, but I think based on your experience with running costs in winter it will be setup for about 10 days and then stowed away until the weather improves!

Hi and thanks for your videos. They've all been a help in setting up my hot tub yesterday. Question for you though, do you leave your heater on constantly or do you use the timer function each day? We are looking to use ours most days what is the most economical way of doing it? Say for instance, I wanted to use it at 8PM every evening this summer, what would you do? Watching my smart meter tick over yesterday worried me to be honest even after using the hot water tap method to fill it you teach in another video.

This is amazing, thanks for doing this. We bought a lazy spa back in the summer instead of a holiday due to lockdowns and it's been fun but I've been concerned about increased electricity costs here in Northern Ireland. Took it down for a couple months between late Sept and put it back up at the beginning of December to use in run up to Xmas but no way to accurately measure what it would cost. Scary just how much the electricity has gone to this year. So December will cost me circa £100 extra in electricity cost just by having the hot tub on! Cheers Again.

We got ours in lockdown too. My MiL bought it for us for all the 'work' my wife did looking after her needs while she isolated. Buy yeah, the winter running costs are quite scary. I've been looking for something suitable to insulate the tub with (insulation is defo the answer) but haven't found anything suitable yet.

Good morning, you make some really useful vids for use of the hot tub. Please could you consider doing a little research and produce a video on how to reduce running costs. For example making yourself an insulating jacket and only heating through the night when electricity is cheaper.

Hi great video very helpful , just a question we dismantled and emptied our spa last winter put back in box took it back out this year but it was covered in marks like some sort of mold in areas it cleaned off after a few hours cleaning !! Just to make you aware and if you have any tips for storing the units , ours was out back in shed but is watertight etc ? Thanks again

Thanks again for an excellent video - I concur with the running costs, as much as I miss my hottub , I've packed it away until spring when its a bit lighter in the evening. I wouldnt be without it, but keeping the costs down. Expertley explained ! In the mean time, my amps are going into antennas rather than hottubs :)

I’m in us and was hoping pound were double dollars. But they are more, But I also packed it up at first freeze and will take it out once avg low is about 40. I miss it so much and it is so good for my circulation. My grage gets max low of 40 F. here in Texas. I think that’s about 10 C. I would take if my side of garage with it but my husband doesn’t like it using electric and didn’t want me too. How many gallons is yours. Mine is 200-225. It stated 4 person. But you better all be close friends because that is very close. I also have a cover and I got some metallic bubble wrap stuff water heater wrap material and put it on top and let it run down size. Weight it down and wrap pipes between tub and pumps with insulation. I’ve had it about 16 months and put up for two winters.

@@Dallashygienist £s are a lot less than double $s. ATM $1 = £0.75 or £1 = $1.35. That's why I included units (kWhr) because of differing electricity prices and exchange rates. That way you can just multiply the units by your unit price to get a realistic local cost. Our St Moritz is 1200 litres = 265 Ukgal = 317USgal. 40F = 4.5C If you're going to use a tub IN a garage I'd suggest fitting a good extractor fan to remove the humidity when the tub is in use (and for 30mins after). Put the fan pick up directly above the tub if you can. I'd also suggest draught proofing the garage door, especially across the bottom to the floor. I'm going to be doing this to my Mum's garage door soon so there'll be a video about this for inspiration. For certain, insulation is the key to cutting running costs. I will be investigating insulated covers during the coming summer. It's also worth insulating the base - 205 of the heat goes out the bottom! I've got mine on decking rather than the cold ground but even so it has 2 layers of this under the bottom: amzn.to/3Mb1lR1. If it's in direct contact with the ground maybe use 3 layers.

These things (from the POV of the UK being such an extreme rip-off for basic utilities) are a joke, thousands of pounds a year to have the odd bath outside. I was dead against this purchase , gf went ahead and did it anyway. Cheaper to visit a spa every now and then. We could have a decent car or be clearing the mortgage early, but no, getting a bath outside with dead beetles seems to be the greater priority. Absolutely baffled by it. She has a very good income and I don't, so from my perspective its hard to stomach & justify, first thing we've argued about in 3 years. Only thing they're good for is drowning the bent politicians and business leaders responsible for pushing half the countries children into lives of poverty so they can make a fast easy buck.

Yes, leave the heater on, set 2-3 deg below normal use temp and reset to use temp a couple of hours before each use or in the morning.

I had an outdoor standard fibreglass 5 seater spa and used it very often, minimum 3 times a week. Found the cheapest way to heat it was to actually empty it after each use and when I wanted to use it again I would run a hose from a tap inside and fill it with hot water. Doing this made a huge difference to my electricity bill savings as my home hot water is gas. Your biggest cost is the heater in a spa bath, so if the water is already hot then it hardly need to heat.

The chemconnect unit contains the filter. You can also put chlorine tablets in it if you prefer tablets to granules

@@AbouttheHouse0 Chemconnect doesn't contain the filter. Thats a different thing altogether. Chemconnect is purely for chlorine tablets (not granules) or it can be removed for the installation of a Lay-z-Spa LED light. Chemconnect is the smaller of the two round grey boxes. The larger one is the thing that houses the filter.

@@Blaaggarding it's crazy times John. I'm on electric Ireland dual fuel DD, 21 cent per unit. As the weather gets warmer the costs will reduce I suppose. I always set it to 40C and leave it on for most of the time. Depending on the time of year the costs are between €5 and 10€ per day which quickly adds up..

I know they're in demand, you'll be able to get at least your money back or more on adverts.ie They're great but you need to keep I'm mind heating costs, pH balance and testers, filters and chlorine. The heating makes up 90% of the costs..

I'm packing mine away today (prefer to use in dark cold nights) but I generally drop it to early 30s if I'm using within the next day or 2 and mid 20s if I'm going to be away for a few days. Sure I read somewhere that this was the most efficient 🤷‍♂️

Yep ! 👍 Use it twice a day … keep it switched to 40C Use it once a day … switch it on 4 hours before your dip (leave temp at 31C between use) Use it once a week … keep the spa (heater) OFF switch it on 10 hours before your dip

Unless you are using it everyday, I would turn it off. I left mine on everyday for 2 month @ 40 degrees n then got my electricity bill! More than double what it usually was n that was before the latest price increases. 🙈

Great video, expecting delivery any day now, I'm in the US and plan on having my Hawaii hydrojet sitting on foam insulation in my basement. I will use the tub every day, hydrojets only not the air bubbles, since you cannot have the timer repeat, can I just set the temp to 104 degrees? I assume the heater will kick on and off to keep that temp? Obviously I will use an insulated cover when not in use. The basement doesn't get hold, it's a poured concrete foundation and walls. Yep, if you simply leave it on it will maintain the set temperature. Put it on 2 or 3 layers of foam to stop the heat wicking straight out of the bottom and into the concrete. A circle of 50mm PIR sheet would be even better.

You don't have to run the heater all the time, but if the water temperature falls below 6C°, it will turn on automatically and will run until water will become 10C°. Just a clever safety measure. It warms up about 1C°/hour (on average, bigger tubs requires longer time to heat up).

Yes, 38-40. Believe it or not, it is more economical to run it at or close to useable temp than to keep letting it cool and heat it back up.

If you are on a single-rate tarriff, then yes, it is generally cheaper to leave it on. If you normally use it at 37, I would suggest setting it to 34 immediately after using it and setting it back to 372-3 hours before use. With the sort of heat loss you are suggesting, it sounds like you do not have any insulation. They have been heavily discounted this summer simply because of the energy costs. A few of the home stores have also discounted the chemicals and accessories. I purchased in July just to see and experience it as the sales tempted me and as I'm not going abroad. Rough figures so far it's been around £6 a dayish when up to temp, that's with ambient in the 20's. Initial fill and heat up was about £11 until up to temp. I've used two filter and some foamer and chlorine. Would I do it again? No I wouldn't , for me it's too costly , too much faff to maintain and I feel it's not worth my time and money in the long run for the novelty of it. I feel a better option might have been a normal pool with a good thermal cover and just refill with hot water every other day. Again maybe not.
