Great overview of Layers and now I understand why I couldn't see the impact from changes in the top node (there was an empty node on the bottom which was blocking it)

Hey Tony - I usually tell people to look at the layer mixer like you would look at an animation cells - at the simplest form, if you were creating a cartoon, you would paint ( or draw) the background. Then you would draw just the characters you want to animate on a clear cell and lay it on top. So with your demonstration here the background is the top layer and the clear ( see through ) is the cell with the skin isolated. In photoshop the layers are doing the same thing except they are not visuals, but still stack on top or each other like pieces of paper. But in almost any 3D or composite software - the visual is back to front. So if you visualize the layer nodes as you would in 3D, the one on top is furthest away and the layers underneath are actually in front of the background. When you get that visualization, there is no confusion. Anyway, I like how you explained the various ways of keying the skin tones. Good job.

Thank you very much, Jim. And I appreciate your analogy that is a very helpful way of visualising how the Layer Mixer works in DV.

Nice explanation. Would you have an introduction video to what each kind of Node is used for and its different purposes depending on shot?

You can do the exact same thing much more simple with just a qualifier and an outside node. No need for any mixer in these exaples.
@Resolve_This
@Resolve_This 10 ай бұрын
You could do that. In Resolve there's often multiple ways of achieving the same thing. But this tutorial was about exlaining how the ‘Layer Mixer’ works. Unlike serial nodes, all nodes in the mixer receives the same RGB signal from the previous node, which will often help you get a cleaner or better grade. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages. Happy grading.

Sorry, my intention was not to be rude. I just wanted to point out that you don't need Layer Mixers to do these corrections. I alway search for the simplest solution for a task. But Layer Mixers are very useful in many scenarios. Keep up the good work with the tutorials!

I'm sorry, but I didn't like this lesson. this is more of a color correction lesson, you made minor changes in the nodes and it was not entirely clear how they work. i think it was necessary to make maximum changes in color to understand how the nodes work, you did minor changes to make the picture beautiful, this is more a lesson on color correction, not about the properties of the nodes. But I still liked it anyway.

@@maurogutierrez I agree with you. But this lesson is more about color correction than about the work of Node. It seems to me that it was not necessary to engage in color so carefully, it is more important to show how the nodes work and interact with each other. The author began a story about Noda, but a lesson in color correction was obtained. But as I understand it, just on my monitor small changes in color were almost invisible. It seems to me to show the work of the Node it was necessary to show extreme values in color and how nodes affect one another, this is a lesson about nodes, and not about a beautiful picture.

Very good info. Going forward it would really be helpful to beginners if you specify where you are making each adjustment. At first we were doing very good at pointing out where each judgment was but toward the end, you made some subtle adjustments like bringing down the exposure on the skin, I could not follow where exactly you made that adjustment.
@Resolve_This

@@jeffellis6544 Thanks for the heads up. It wasn’t crucial for the topic here, but I can see it can be annoying not knowing, so I will definitely pay more attention to that moving forward. In this case I used the Gamma to bring the exposure of the skin down.
