The good ol itchy wool 😅 things have come along way but wool continues to trump nearly every attempt to mimic it. I just wish we had a way to make it more resilient to tears while maintaining the weight.

Good little video with some great advice especially for those just getting started. Always keep your core, hands, feet and your nuts warm and you are laughing! I'd add always get the best quality boots that you can afford and break them in properly before you hit the hills. Happy hunting.

Gday daz, thanks for the video mate. Hey I was watching your video on the 650 tips and tricks… and just wanted to let you know I found a way to make the rhino charge from a usb cable. Usually when you connect to a usb and charge it off a deep cycle setup in a 4x4 it won’t charge. Lucky to get 1% per hour. But I solved the issue. If you’re keen to know more let me know 👍🏻
@IntotheMountains
@IntotheMountains 10 ай бұрын
Hey James, they seem to charge fine on a 12 v system. At the vehicle we’ve had no issues. Just need to make sure the have the correct usb outlet. It’s the portable battery banks that we take when backpacking that the issue comes into play as they are typically a lower amperage. Often slow to charge and camping out at 40% full. We do have a way around it but for what it’s worth and the effort it’s much easier to carry a spare lithium Garmin spare battery. 👍🏾

@@IntotheMountains cheers Daz. Mine hated charging off my car usb outlets. I’ve got it sorted now as a mates who’s a guru with electronics wired the cable to make it think it’s 240 and stopped it going into sync mode. Something about a prong and an earth..?? Above my pay grade haha. I’ll check it on a battery bank as I’m curious to see how it goes on that

Great info Daz. Thanks heaps for the video. You mentioned it, but didn't talk about it, what are your thoughts on ponchos for wet weather walking/stalking?
@IntotheMountains
@IntotheMountains Жыл бұрын
Hey Ian, sorry I should have elaborated. I love ponchos. Used in the right way they can be the ultimate difference between dry and wet. The reason is a rain jacket goes under your pack. The pack straps then rub and rub and increase water migration through contact. A poncho however goes over the top of everything. Including your pack, bino rig and even rifle shedding all of the Downpour. It can double as a tarp. Shelter and water collector. I use them often to compliment the rain jacket in very adverse weather.
@ianpenford3846
@ianpenford3846 Жыл бұрын
Everything you said strikes a chord with me, particularly after a wet day in the bush recently. I could have done with something to cover everything on the walk in, and then something to set up as a tarp to keep the rain off during a sit-and-wait... Do you have any 'brand' recommendations? Cheers.

@IntotheMountains

No worries Lachlan! I have a few mat and bag systems that I’ll use throughout the year. My winter system I work on three factors. A r value 5 Matt or higher. A bag rated for 10 degrees lower than I expect a 4 season or greater tent. I never have any issues here in Australia with that method all the way down to -9.

Great layering guide Daz. Ive been upgrading my wet weather gear and I used to look for quite rain gear for stalking, but over time Ive found that the more qiuet it is the less waterproof it is and the more it holds water. What are your thoughts on quiet rain gear? Cheers bro
@IntotheMountains
@IntotheMountains Жыл бұрын
You make a really good point there Dave and spot on with your observations. The quiet fabric is often bonded to the outer waterproof membrane giving you a heavy jacket to begin with. The water molecules will quickly bind to the soft outer adding weight. Then water ingress often occurs through contact moisture from underneath. I have found even the slightest rain becomes very loud in the bush easily drowning out our own sound. Furthermore the swishing sound from these single shell fabrics may appear loud near our ears but this high treble sound does not travel far in the bush and doesn’t seem to be on the deers radar like the base sounds from our own footfall. 👍🏾

Extremely informative Daz thanks, hope this doesn’t sound silly but re underwear can you get merino boxers to wear under merino leggings or normal underwear/boxers are ok? Thanks again Michael
@IntotheMountains
@IntotheMountains Жыл бұрын
No not a silly question at all Michael. It’s a great point and yes you absolutely can get great merino underwear. It’s a little harder to find here in the mainstream but stocked well in New Zealand outlets. Very comfortable and will be perfect for this type of thing. 👍🏾

@@IntotheMountains apologies I missed your reply ages ago.. yep, I was referring to the harness/pack for kids. I'm not even sure it'd work for me, depending on the weight of the harness and the passenger.. I've had a back issue for a while so I'm not sure it's realistic, it'd be good to know though. (thanks again for all your awesome videos, I'm sure there are so many people that enjoy and appreciate them, even for armchair 'hunters' like me that wish we could get out from time to time)
