Nice job, I will be tackling my garden in the summer, it has been nothing but weeks and shrubs for 15 years, just had the biggest conifer tree I have ever seen cut down, I think the ground is going to need a lot of preparation,

Sadly I didn't have the chance to film that... I should do a quick update, had to remove the lawn to add additional drainage. But it's coming back. :D

Dash Camera Learning Hi 3 years on and your video is still inspiring DIY’ers! My lawn soil is very similar to yours, hard and rocky I was thinking of doing exactly as you have and put a load of topsoil down and then returf. After coming across this comment I want to know why you had drainage issues? And anything you would have done different given the chance? Thanks

Watched your video. Good job! However just an FYI with proper fertilization into the dirt...you don't need to put a layer of topsoil. :-) .

Great work & video. Please, can I ask: What did you spread over the soil, just before laying the turf? Some fertilizer/nutrient? Which one? THX!

do I need to dig the area so the new SOD level with the existing lawn?
@cachurchill768 жыл бұрын
As long as your base is level, some say stones are bad, I say they are good for drainage so the choice is yours. But no digging needed, level and work with what's there. Unless the level you attain from that is to high to add a good covering of top soil.
@mrhyde26817 жыл бұрын
Did you use all of the 2 tones of top soil? How much did it cost you for the soil ?
@cachurchill767 жыл бұрын
Mr Hyde I did yes but sadly can't remember how much the soil was!
@digitalmediafan8 жыл бұрын
Oh you did'nt use any planks of wood to walk on...not that I think this matters really
@cachurchill768 жыл бұрын
I find that your feet can level better if you have the time. Once bedded a good heavy roller can give a more natural level to back fill with established growth for that flat under foot feeling.

@cachurchill768 жыл бұрын
the bottom layer was well compressed and it's served well in a compressed state.
@XRazorShiftyX8 жыл бұрын
Not meant to walk on newly laid grass for at least a week or stamp down on it to compress it, use boards!
@cachurchill768 жыл бұрын
Dean Kennedy it was fine :)
@MultiGazman7 жыл бұрын
Yes its fine to walk on new turf, Its already established in the soil it came in! When you bought it it was on a pallet stacked many high,rolled up under pressure or flat supporting 20 times its on weight for many hours or days before it was laid,So why would walking on it be a problem? One good soaking once a week, Dont over water it, You want nice deep roots, If you water it all the time it will only grow small roots.
