LAYNE (VoicePlay) & Family - Evil Like Me (Descendants) | First* REACTION!

Layne was originally their baritone until Scott Porter left in 2003. Then he took over as the beatboxer. The family used to do this every year for Doris' birthday. However the 2 oldest girls are now in college. And Lily is now 17. Doris has been a couple of school plays. And a couple of Pattycake Productions videos. The latest being "Grinch Reacts To TikTok Videos" (something to that effect). The three older girls are actually his stepdaughters. But he thinks of and treats them as his own. The lady is his wife Cyndi. They have an amazing marriage. True love.

Layne and Cindi did these videos as a way to mark Doris’s birthdays. The older three daughters also sing. The oldest girl (with glasses) is deaf. She received a cochlear implant just months before the first birthday video. If you want a better example of Layne singing, try Voiceplay’s Heart of Life. It was their first release after Earl left the group. No beatboxing, but a lot of Layne leads.

A bit of fun is checking out Marcello Bass's site with the guys vocal ranges. You might be surprised at who had the greatest range at that time. Eli, Geoff and Jay are on it too, each with their own video. Thanks for checking this out!

I think I heard one of the VoicePlay members comment one time that 'technically' Layne's range may be even wider than Geoff's, but that he himself admits that he can't make those notes at either end of the scale sound quite as good as Geoff. But, of course, he spends the vast amount of his time concentrating on beatboxing, not working on singing at extremes. I can't quite remember how it was phrased, but on Instagram one time, I saw Layne wearinga t-shirt that said something along the lines of "I am brave. I must be... I live with FIVE women!"

The song is from the movie Descendants, which is the story a of the children of the classic villains. (This particular song is sung by Malificent and her daughter Mal, played by Kristen Chenoweth and Dove Cameron.)

Also a good video to see all the families (of the members at the time back in the Earl and J None days) is “Daddy sang bass”. Can you guess which “daddy” sang bass?? 🤔😂

Oh, yeah, Layne's range is quite substantial. His go-to extended technique for low notes, is ingressive phonation, but I think "absolute disgrace" there was just chest voice dipping into the vocal fry register.

I saw this a couple of years ago. He did a couple more birthday songs for Doris. I think those are original songs, he writes a lot of music for his production company, PattyCake Productions. He hit an A0 at the end of Sh-boom, lower than Geoff can hit now.

So hlad to see stuff from Laynes person page. He really is a terrific singer. His family is just as interesting. I believe two of his daughters are away in college and one is looking into producing (if I got that wrong sorry) You can see Lilly in Voiceplay version of Peaches and Cindy (his wife) in a couple of videos I think the funnest is Jingle Bell Rock where she nails the Camcorder Mom.
