Charlie - I don't model UK trains, but I subscribed and continue to watch all your release because you don't try to be like some of the other model railroad "Celebrities" that annoy with gimmicks and such. You present your topic and show the good with the bad. It's always refreshing when someone is willing to put that out there. I haven't been across the pond in almost 48 years, but one of my fondest memories is a night out with a group of RN ratings on a port visit to Southampton. If I ever get back, we'll have to hoist a pint :) Keep it going

Sunday morning. Utopia. A steaming hot coffee and more Chadwick. All very interesting as always Charlie. Totally agree with your thoughts Charlie, but my layout is in a very large unheated shed so my main factor is the weather for the day. Thankfully I have a model room. I like the idea of the 10 minute videos but of course you could perhaps do a monthly video of several 10s together? I once owned a layout in N built by the late Andy Calvert. It introduced many a brave modeller to a hernia or two. I swear it was hollowed out of tree stumps!! Keep up the good work. Cheers, Bob

Evening Charlie, lovely ride around the entire layout, it is always great to have the loop closed! The TMD is really getting along and well done on getting all the specific jobs done 🍾👍🏻, thank you for the tip. I work in the same manner, even though I have only done 4 videos and am still working on my wood work for the model railway. As for the Chadwickie (I just christened that hashtag for you 🤣), perhaps you could show us a simple way to plan your fiddle yard in Traincontroller and/or how to place several trains behind one another in the fiddle yard. Wow - this video has singlehandedly solved two massive problems I was having in planning my layout. I'm building in a cellar that has just a single narrow entrance. I thought with my original plan, I had optimised the space with a giant tail chaser - but I didn't like the idea of ducking under to get in or out. Your design of an end-to-end with a helix at each end that makes it into a tail-chaser is genius. :)

Hey Charlie, been hooked on your channel for a few weeks now since me and my four year old started our first layout (it’s a glorified train set, on a board, but we are ballasting the track and having a go at some scenery, landscaping and weathering etc, main thing is it’s bringing us great joy!!). Fantastic content and you re so easy to watch!! Ps as a qualified electrician I can absolutely vouch for WAGO connectors in mains wiring, use them in domestic & industrial applications all the time, they are brilliant and regulation wise deemed a ‘maintenance free’ permanent connection much like a crimp. Keep up the good work!!!

I have been sidetracked since 1975 when I purchased my 1st OO used hand built Steam Engine. I built a simple Shelf switching layout and spent hours enjoying various shunting combinations for 2 years. Then was posted in Germany and started collecting Marklin trains. When returned to the United States I was assigned duty as a System Engineer Officer (USAF). Left active duty and became a Systems Engineering Consultant. Finally retired and became a member of Tennessee Central Railway Museum in Nashville which had HO & N scale layouts. Became a Car Host for excursion trips. Then discovered Ttrak modules , built several joining others at model train shows building layouts each show was a uniquely designed layout. Finally I discovered the Tennessee Valley Railroaders club & became a member. The club has HO & N Scale layouts has moved locations several times and is currently in a historic Town Bell Buckle, 50 miles SE of Nashville. We recently added an O Gauge layout. Sorry no KZbin videos yet. ( maybe coming soon)

The 'shorts' definitely seem to work for other channels I watch so I look forward to seeing some in the future from you. The one trick I have found when I want to get on with a job is to stick my headphones in and listen to an album, it's quite remarkable how much you can get done while listening to a favourite band or even a podcast, so much more productive than falling down a FB shorts/KZbin/Twitch/TikTok hole (or whatever your visual media of choice is 🙂) Take care mate .

@@ChadwickModelRailway Kind friend you cannot be all things to everyone at the same time. You do well. My only concern is how locomotive X being dragged by locomotive Y will get out of the depot having been trapped and consequently rendered unavailable for traffic. As well as this, you could take someone's foot off with the motorised point arrangements. This is why it's important for health and safety reasons. In my opinion, and I could be wrong, your well-intentioned depot movements are sunk. You're using a whole lot of fuel for such a small tmd (no offence meant or intended). Careful with those Rock AND Roll songs now. Lep pozdrav in Srecno.

Excellent suggestion regarding keeping your mojo up. The overwhelming of the project can really stall it and it has been the subject of many a podcast. Various suggestions are made and yours fits right in. I especially like the part where you set deadlines and do your bit and leave the train room. 👍 I have one serious suggestion though… find a buddy when you need help lifting… a back strain can put a serious crimp in your one month deadlines. Soldering, I am an electronic engineer and know how to solder but many modellers are put off soldering or find it daunting so maybe a short tutorial on soldering and how to tin wire and or the work and to select soldering irons and care and cleaning would make a helpful short. It's worth considering a solder station with temperature control, a good flexible wire, and other accessories like a helping hand device to hold the workpiece. When using multistrand wire inserted into a connector a ferrule is suitable but an alternative is tinning the wire works well. Consideration to ventilation and even the installation of a small fan blowing the fumes away from your face. As for the bumps on the head, I think we golden oldies need to wear hard hats as a matter of course. Thanks for another informative video.🧑‍🔧

12:06 Charlie, instead of allowing the locomotive to foul the switch at the frog, to which could cause a collision with another powered/running locomotive, why not set the insulators beyond the frog some centimetres/ a couple inches? Being a regular viewer from Canada I am often amused by your occasional use of British slang or expressions that I’ve not heard before. I must admit that “stoofing” one’s head is a new one on me! Just the other day while watching another UK channel I found out that being “chuffed” is not a bad thing. I love your videos and layout and am always impressed by your meticulous approach to things. Take care. Frank.

Charlie, Thank you for the update. Your Videos are very interesting, and holds lots of little gold nuggets of wonderful information, which helps me. How you got your head injury - pub fight, ot bathroom, doesn't matter, but as you get older, it just takes longer to get better, that's what annoys me, when I was younger, it would heal, and be right as rain in no time, now.......... Some short videos would be great. Someone hyas suggested Semaphore signals, that would be interesting, particularly if they are motorised. Cheers, and stay safe, Michael

It's about time you started to plan and install operating signals on your layout. It is "icing on the cake" but few add signals mainly due to not having signal control such as TrainController which is what you use.

Hi Charlie - loved the tour by train. I'm having a garden building put up, which might even get finished once the weather improves and the workmen return. They don't seem to waterproof them any longer. A saga in its own right. Sadly I won't quite be able to compete with your dimensions, but if you accept that mimicry is the highest form of flattery, I should be able to manage a 2 deck layout with a single helix and loops on both decks, to create a 3 dimensional tail chaser. I will have a branchline shuttle, and would like to get a DMU from the lower deck fiddle yard over to the branchline, which can be achieved either by sending it all the way round then backing it in, or (and make for more interesting trackwork), putting in crossing lines, using one diamond crossing and a slip as there are 2 up and 2 down lines. When I design the latter, AnyRail yells "reverse loop!" at me, which I'm sure is correct. What I am not sure about is how to solve it. I'm assuming a reverse loop widget, but where to place it, I know not. Anyway - that is a very long winded way of asking if you might produce a video on how wire up a more complex crossing, using a single or double slip. I did watch your earlier video on wiring of slips, but the added challenge here is how to deal with any resulting reverse loop issues cause by crossing a tail-chased layout. Phew.

Fish plates, not an electrical connection, droppers, soldering, hot and cold expansion track bends hot cold, flexitrack Vs trainset track, reliability, etc. and Megapoints servo systems. Back to work with a manor, but this One is kinda lightly bigger, runs on coal and not 16mm gauge. Try 5"! Hmm.. 009 is getting on fine. Hi Charlie, you asked for topics suggestions for your 10 minute video - I have one which I know you have covered in parts in your many videos. _ I have always admired your wiring and especially the way every wire appears to be crimped and labelled. Inspired I bought a crimping kit and it was a disaster!! I gave up with the crimping tool; which I found heavy and almost impossible to operate successfully - ( I can only conclude I bought the wrong kit !!) So a short video on what to buy and how to use it to produce wiring that is as neat tidy and as organised as yours would be very welcome.

Hi Charlie I agree with using time efficiently with planning. Personally I'm renoovating a house in France and have to make a strict 'to do 'list of achievable jobs for the following day. Any not completed are attached as priority on the next days list and so on. When I was teaching DCT (Design Craft and Technology) and my students were working on project work in order to avoid drift I taught them to break down the project in the major parts and assign priorities. at the end of each lesson I spent a few minutees getting them to write down on a time sheet I devised what they had achieved in that lesson and then write down the tasks to be carried out next leson declaring what resources they needed. At the beginning of that next lesson we gathered for a few minutes and each student read out their tasks for the day and then jolly well got on with them with enthusiam After the initial moans and groans they soon became quite enthused as they saw the 'pathway' through the project developing, plus they were encouraged by seeing their acheivements written down. It was a delight to see such motivated and satisfied groups of youg students eager to work so I really believe in project planning at the beginning and at each stage. The more you do it the less of a chore it becomes and the more you enjoy it.

Nice video! Suggestion for ‘Video Shorts’: exploring and/or reviewing the various braking functions that are emerging in DCC decoders at the moment. Each manufacturer seems to have their own approach, and therefore button push procedures- generally with f8 and f5. I’m thoroughly confused, and your down to earth approach would be very helpful. Perhaps manufacturers could supply samples for comparison. Even better, it might help suggest that they at least use the same keys (cf how Rick Wakeman triggered the MIDI revolution).
