Man sounds like plan, my friend. Can’t wait to see what you have in mind. Hope the grade going up doesn’t take up too much space. Man when you and Mrs. Railfan get that house it’s on. You have the skills. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Eric!! Yeah the plan is still in the works and if I'm planning it right the grade up to the 2nd level should be good. You already know when we get house it's on like donkey Kong 🤷♂️😅 Thanks for stopping by. Have a good night and stay safe. God bless and Happy modeling!! - Jason

hi jason... sure looks like total demolition with some great reorganization of buildings/track/etc/etc !!! i may have told you previously that i have the same type ceiling as you, which really put a dead-stop "halt" to my planned double decker pike. it was very humbling to me as i had planned a double decker for over 2 years and then realized it was not going to happen !! after many thoughts, beers, discussions with rr friends, and anyone else, i got to where i am at now, and i am really happy to have shit-canned the helix project as it DOES help but can be a total pain in the butt !!! so, these thoughts/ideas bring me to this point.... i figure if you and rail lady are going to buy a house soon, why not plan this current edition as a pike that will be an " engineering precursor", if you will, to the pike you will build in your new house when you purchase it ??? by this i mean shit-can the helix, as i assume you will use either a large room or an entire basement for your layout, therefore not needing a helix, and then build your main lines/yards/sidings/etc. on the current layout in a semi modular fashion so you can drop them in wherever you want on the new pike ? i would also suggest sitting down with pencil and paper to write down your thoughts and ideas for planning both the current "new" layout and then your carry-over ideas for the pike in your new house.... i know it sounds simple, and even somewhat stupid, but writing things down worked well for me as i also would watch videos of other pikes and write down the things i saw that i wanted to bring over to my pike.... i still do that now over morning coffee for current layout ideas/modifications !!! i see you have nice carpentry skills, too, so this should be a breeze for you !!! being an industrial engineer for the dept. of energy for 30 plus years, we would get work packages for specific projects and i would do a light, initial review of the package and write down crib notes/thoughts as i proceeded thru the package.... this simple process helped a ton when doing formal engineering for that specific project.... using it on my pike has helped a great deal !!! just some thoughts i had for you over early morning coffee !!! besides, i have seen your rr engineering over the years and am fully convinced you could build a nice payout w/out a helix to get you over until you guys buy your new home !!! blessings as usual, jason !!! denny

I don’t blame you for not wanting to crawl under every time, I hope you’ll be able to buy a home, and finally have your own place and a good size train room. God speed👍🏻

Jason, this is going to be cool watching the rebuild. I still can't believe that you had a helix in there!! I complained that I didn't have the room at 7 1/2' x 22' and ended up putting in 2 grades at 7% to get to the second level. I did kinda the same thing for my modular frames. our first layout were 4' x 30" sections but I trimmed them down to 24" for the second rebuild. Don't go 30" Jason. It will be too deep and you'll have no room to move around. That being said, a 24" corner only leaves you with a good 22" curve, maybe a 24" if you push it right to the wall. If you do a second layer, will it be connected to the lower with the helix? Again great stuff and hey, pick up some more Smails! Cheers! Earl

Hey Earl and I'm excited to build a new project layout. That helix did take up a lot of room. It wasn't horrible, however with the rough track plan I have I plan on running a 2% incline around the back of the layout to get to the second level. I really want to keep it simple for this build. So to answer your question there won't be a helix on this layout. I might build another one when we get a house, but that's a little ways away so until then 🤷♂️😅 I actually can do 30" wide on the right side of the room walking in, but the other side not going to happen. There will still be plenty of room for myself and others to move around comfortably. Stay tuned. Thanks for stopping by. Have a good day and stay safe. Happy modeling!! - Jason

that big bracket you have im using two of those holding up my 2 3d printers when i move i sure im going have to come up with something differnt cant wait to see you start over
@jaybird1112078 ай бұрын
Hey Dwight and those brackets work very well. Are you moving soon or plan on moving? I thought you owned a house 🤔 I'm still working on the plan right now. Kinda want to keep it simple, but I know me and sometimes want to build more then what my train room at the moment can hold 🤦♂️🤷♂️😅😅😅 Thanks for stopping by. Have a good day and stay safe. @@jaybird111207 I didn't see anything wrong with the other layout and no I don't own a house I wish I did and I'm out move some day I have a lot stuff I have to sell before I can move and I might be moving into a apartment I'm out to get closer to my sister's town and if they don't let me have my trains then I won't be moving in that place
@jaybird1112078 ай бұрын
@@KerleyExpress well hopefully all will work out for your move and you can take your trains with you🤟🤙😎 There wasn't anything wrong with the other layout as far as running it went. I was just tired of ducking under all the time going in and out of the room. Plus I was able to lower it some so my second level won't run into my slanted ceiling 🤷♂️😅
