NOTE: I realized that in my rush when I picked the waybill for the new tank car going to FXI I grabbed a TANK CHEM waybill. I should have picked a TANK OIL waybill instead. Oops.

This is always fun. We got 6 inches of snow here and more falling so I will be working on the RR when down watching. Keep up the good work.

You could simply pull the waybills out of the car cards (for the pick-ups prior to the session) since the CC’s have printed right on ‘em “return car to yard.” Then - all empty cars except for gons (to Sanford) and oil tanks (to SoCal Oil) would automatically be put on the outbound hauler. Y/N? For Sanford & SCO, generate a WB that says, “bring mt to X”. Flip it. “return load to yard”.

Thats all right don't know about anybody else but I get the idea. I can see that most if not all of your cars will originate from staging. Using the yard as a interchange.

What about a rolodex for keeping the cards sorted and easy to flip through?

How does your system prevent more cars being sent to an industry than there are spots at the industry? Since you have 2 waybills for every car spot, couldn't you end up with double the cars at one industry?
@socalscalemodels3 сағат бұрын
well that's the manual process you do before you start. IRL the industry with 2 spots isn't going to order 4 cars. so I look at the industry first, determine that they have an open spot or are shipping a car out and will have room. but don't get me started on offspots. Haven't gotten there yet.
@HumancityJunction3 сағат бұрын
@ how are you doing holds and off-spots. Oh wait, you said not to ask!
@socalscalemodels2 сағат бұрын
Since you HAD to ask, I was thinking that I would have a smaller waybill/offspot card, just a generic one that can be used anywhere on the layout. Maybe on red cardstock, that would be inserted on top of the existing waybill showing that the car was left in an offspot. Since offspots can be anywhere thats convenient, the crew would just leave the car where able and the "carcard/waybill/offspot waybill modifier" would be kept it the industry facia 'box'. Next local that came by would then have to check the industry box, see that there is an offspot car and spot that car first. Of course this would all be choreographed in my head before either of the locals were put together.

@@socalscalemodels On a layout your size, off spot is not needed. If car is sitting somewhere that is does not belong, when a train works the location, it moves it to the correct spot if possible. Simply keep the car card in the correct box near the track. Off spots occur way to often on model railroads because everyone wants to have every car they own on the railroad and judge their operations by how many cars are moved. On a small layout, concentrate on how the conductor will make the moves. Avoid during setup sending five cars to a one car spot as it adds little value added fun and much frustration. The more complicated you make things, the more setup time it takes to run ops. I personally would rather be operating trains than doing paperwork. Follow the KISS principle and keep things simple. Keep the ops videos coming. They are fun to watch.
