Your carboard box industry is already made from cardboard. Good promotional idea. Serious, i like that. Far better than an empty space with plywood or styrofoam. It creates illusion and is a good helper to you to decide exactly what will go there. Your GP9 sound like a real one. Awesome.

I lived in Reno, NV in 1993 and the SP used a GP-9 in its Sparks, NV yard for switching duties.

You found a nice new loco under the Christmas tree! On my model railway I also drive different periods, so 80s or 90s or 2000s or modern. In that way, having multiple collections, there is always a good excuse to buy a new wagon or loco. 😊 Happy New Year to you and keep those videos coming!

Very nice new addition. Nothing wrong with running older locomotives with newer cars. There's plenty of short lines out there still running vintage diesels. I recently saw a video of some GP9s that were just recently taken out of service. If you really wanted to make it "realistic" for modern day you could patch your older stuff for a short line.

3380 was one of the last locos to run on the old SP Santa Monica Air Line.

How about a little actual SP history Rick? GPE's 3326-3437 were outshopped in Sacremento's GRIP Program starting in 9/71 thru 12/76. 3380, formerly 3520, as delivered 5687, shipped in 4/56 and was upgraded as of 4/19/73. So the way your unit is painted would be for 1973 and beyond. Depending on your year of usage there would be a lot of weathering choices. 3380 was retired in 9/18/95 and sold to Progress Rail in Exeter, CA in December of that year. I have GP9E 3384 plus some unrebuilt GP9's in the 3700's, they make fine power for anything you care to name. I model the late 1970's. Happy New Year to you all. JohnH. 🌵

Hi Rick , nice looking locomotive yes please do a video on weathering it. You sound like me get a new locomotive and Merry Christmas to me.L O L. I got 3 new C 39-8’s on the way in the Conrail colors. I’m an n scaler and in my era is the 80’s so these units were new in 1986. I’m a Norfolk and Western , Southern , and Norfolk Southern fan. So I decided to add some Conrail power in. They ran in the same areas. Happy New Year ! ! Thanks for sharing. Have a good weekend. 😎😎. 👍

I model multiple eras. 1987-2004. I Carefully pick cars without eliminating/changing half a roster. Its mild research but easier in the long run.

I love the building with the Google street view printout on it. That is really nice. As far as weathering the new loco - please don't go crazy. What's wrong with having a clean looking engine? Maybe dull the paint a little but other than that - nothing else.

Hey Rick, if you have cars that run in both era's, you could weather and tag one side of it for current ops, and the other side just lightly weather (or whatever) to use in the 80s era. Would work for the per diem boxcars at least.

can you say insulated rail Joiners Rick? (cough. . gag) and of course on the real railroads they are called Joint bars. Veddy nice choice, an SP GP9R . Even tho I'm an SP modeler, I opted for the UP 3 digit GP9 with the giant plow. They were used on OR/WA branch lines and was just too cool to pass on.I do have a few SP GP9s laying around somewhere.cheers oh and that run around would be a nice place for the Santa Fe to leave a few cars, if that track was extended with diamond. PPS you cut the webbing between ties on the switch and you could curve it slightly on that end.

Just weathering, no graffiti, no UP patching. Gonna keep it looking like it's 1985ish. Will probably also 'un-patch' the GP38 #588 to run with it.
