Glad to see another 1980's MKT modeler out there. I too grew up near a Katy main line in the 80's. In my case in Carrollton, Tx. And I miss seeing those big green monsters. In regards to the power lines, Part of me would like to see you run them, another part of me thinks they'll become an issue if you want to get in and amongst the buildings, etc. to do scenery work, changes, etc. later on.

Hello! Yes, it seems we Katy modelers are in a minority. But, I’m finding out there are a lot more of us than I imagined! I appreciate your thoughts on the wires for the power lines. They would look nice. But, my big hands and fingers sometimes brush and knock the poles themselves, so I can’t imagine how things would fate with wires! Perhaps I’ll experiment and see one day when I’ve got time on my hands to play around with it! -Mike

Wow. That first section of the layout is really coming to life. Can't wait to see what the next section looks like
@MainTrack Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Slowly but surely. I’m looking forward to knocking out the next section a little quicker- or at least the basics. Cooler weather means fewer outdoor activities to take away from layout time! Ha. -Mike

Really a pleasure looking at your layout and seeing all your progress . I live just north of Joplin , Mo. I was at the Springfield train show . I'm real new at all the train life . Am doing N scale DC . I got an MKT caboose and a Frisco VO 1000 switcher . Still looking for an N scale MKT switcher . I get a lot of great idea's from you for my layout . Thanks for the great video's .

Hi, Steve! I appreciate you watching. I’m glad you enjoy the videos! It sounds like you’ve got a great layout started. The Frisco was a great railroad, too. It was being gobbled up by BN when I was very young, so I don’t have a lot of memories of it. But, I’ve always thought the paint scheme was pretty sharp- and I’ve made sure to include plenty of Frisco cars on the layout.

I appreciate that, Brandie! It always means a lot to hear compliments from friends who know what the real thing is supposed to look like! It’s a lot of fun- but makes me feel old to think about recreating a part of history- that was in our lifetime. Haha.

The Tangent BN caboose are amazing! I just got two of them and I hope to snag a couple more. I hope they make some MKT caboose for you
@MainTrack Жыл бұрын
Hello! Agreed…they’re definitely a game changer for cabooses! Manufacturers have been putting out some great engines in recent years…it’s finally time we got some cabooses on equal par! I know quite a few of us are hoping for some Katy versions. Those would be great, but I’m loving these BN ones for now! -Mike

Good video, like your very nice layout. I live near the old Frisco, Monett Mo to Ft. Smith line. So my interest is in Frisco/ Arkansas Missouri line running now. So for now a small N scale work in progress.

Hi, Harry! Thank you for watching. You’re modeling a great line! Of course, I only know it from its BN and A&M days. I enjoy taking trips over to watch the trains between Monett and Springdale. -Mike

Always enjoyable and entertaining to watch. Informative as well. Wish I had the space and funds for such a nice layout. I love the prototype and the execution in model form. Very inspirational. Keep up the good work Mike.

I sure appreciate that, Michael! It’s always great to hear from folks who enjoy the videos! I have a lot of fun and am just happy to be able to share it with others. The hobby certainly does take space and some money. I used to dream of having a big basement empire. But, I’m finding this size is more than enough to keep me busy! -Mike
@michelvandenhof12 Жыл бұрын
Mike, unfortunately, most houses in Europe and especially the Netherlands tend to be much smaller then the average US house and basements are a rarity over here. As I also want to exhibit my layout AND have plans to relocate to Suriname in South America after retirement (as my wife originates from there) and want to move the layout with me, I've decided to just build a 2 meters by 1 meter layout in H0. As this means rather tight curves, there will unfortunately be no trains on it, only trams (trolleys) and buses, both driving digitally. Surely another game as your modelling efforts. Just glad our hobby has so many options.

Hi, just found your model railroad. Can't wait to see your Katy depot when you get it done. Are you going to scratch build or kitbash? Also love that overpass! Great job!
@MainTrack Жыл бұрын
Hello! Thank you…I appreciate you stopping by to watch. I am still looking at options for the depot. An possibility that obviously wasn’t previously available- 3D printing- is looking more like a viable route. I’ve been doing some research lately and have reached out to a company that makes custom kits. I’ll be sure to keep everyone posted whichever way I go. It’ll be a big project! -Mike

What are or will the overall dimensions of the layout be when finished
@MainTrack Жыл бұрын
Hi, Jason! The dimensions of the current setup (with my peninsula under construction) are 20 x 12 x 16 I’m working with a 20 x 20 space, so I’ve got quite a bit more room to work with, especially around the walls. I plan to keep going until I run out of room- or finally land a bigger house with more layout room! -Mike

Do you have a diagram of the layout track plan? I'm always looking for some ideas for mine. Thanks again.

I put up wires. It ended up being a disaster. Every time you or someone else reaches into the scene you get into a spider web. They won't be up long. Have the Sedalia city council of your layout mandate underground utilities.
@MainTrack Жыл бұрын
Hi! That's what I hear from most people- the wires just aren't worth it in the long run. I'm leaning toward learning from their mistakes and skipping the lines! I may also to take your advice and get ahold of the council! Ha. -Mike
