THIS IS NOT A RANKING!! Pinning this comment because people seem to be missing the bit where I explicitly stated it (0:30). This is a collection of 10 diverse performances that I really love. I also take time to go over submissions from my viewers too. The list is not in order of worst to best or vice versa, nor it is a critical look at the top 10, it's just 10 I really love. It's also not about character writing either, purely about performances from the actors, so those arguing about writing are doing so for no reason.

9:40 I think what makes Kevin Conroy’s Batman so unique and so special is that palpable feeling that he understands the character in a way a lot of people don’t get to. He grew up in a very religious household with violent parents as a gay man, hiding his true self from his family, friends, and eventually potential employers. There’s this amazing quote from him talking about the moment he found the Batman voice: “It seemed to roar from thirty years of frustration, confusion, denial, love, yearning. Yearning for what? An anchor, a harbor, a sense of safety, a sense of identity. Yes, I can relate. Yes, this is terrain I know well. The voice of Batman rose from deep within.”

One of My favorite video games performances is Robbie Diamond as Goro Akechi for two reasons. First is his range from soft-spoken noble young man into mentally disturbed mad men. It completely feels like two different character in one. Second is how convincing he is with showing Akechi's emotion. When Akechi shows his true color towards Joker and Phantom Thievies in Shido's Palace. You can feel Akechi's hated, suffering and jealous in that cutscene. This is someone who is fully messed up and feels the world spit on his face. That raw emotion coming from Robbie Diamond as he voiced Akechi is so freaking good. It makes Akechi feel like unforgettable character by his performances. Not only that, but he was amazing in the third semester. His over the top delivery is gold.

My honorable mentions: The ENTIRE Mass Effect trilogy main cast Aaron Stanton as Detective Cole Phelps (LA Noire) - "Courtney Sheldon was a corpsman, Roy. He served his country! He went out with a medical kit and an Army 45 and into places that made the Valley of Death look like a picnic. He was either naive enough or dumb enough to get involved in the Suburban Development Fund along with the mayor, the DA, Monroe, and a certain crooked cop. He was involved in the morphine heist, but he has a puncture wound in his jugular, which makes this a murder case. He was a better man than you'll ever know. You say one more word about him and I will blow your fucking head off!" Just an amazing performance.

Not many people will think of this one but Goro Akechi from Persona 5 is such a good performance. I will never not get chills hearing his speech in shidos palace.
@edwardsuou11 ай бұрын
Daymond sure did one hell of a job most of the time, I also think Akechi is like the most overrated character as everyone loves psychopaths and rivarly (and somehow that means he's the best character in all or persona) and that scene is nice but a bit cliche and also is charged with so much forced meaning (people went all out even to translate japanese to say their favorite character has their favorite philosophy and that's why he did that) also Dayamond didn't really made that scene different it was just a lot of shouting "DIEEE!!!!" as hard as he could and talk with sorrow and frustration and then heroically Any actor can do a scene like that and if it's your favorite character you will cry and say it's the best performance Max Mittelman as Ryuji, Matthew Jones as Yusuke, Erika Lindback as Futaba and Maruki all did a fantastic jjob. Xanthe Hyuth is also a joy to hear as Haru and Xander Mobius rocked his like 7 lines. Daymond didn't do better just because he shouts and cries in a scene everyone felt really emotional, any actor can do that kind of exaggerate transition, a good performance is in details like Futaba's social awkwardness or Makoto's facade of confidence or Akechi's false kindness and hypocrisy, not him shouting how frustrated he is with life so we feel sorry for him.
@kyanmori927211 ай бұрын
@@edwardsuou I’ll be honest I made this comment in the middle of Shidos palace on a replay so I forgot about about Maruki, thinking back on it he probably had a better performance. I do still think Akechi was played very well. The character is a bit overrated but Robbie plays him to a tee

Sam Witwer as Deacon St. John. To be able to convey a badass biker, to a kind and caring husband to a survivor of a zombie apocalypse was brilliant imo. How he mutters to himself throughout the game when doing stuff, like if he’s fighting a horde but he’s just ran out of ammo and he’s just like “ah, fuck me” to then wail on them with a bat. It’s a shame that Days Gone won’t ever get a sequel, because Witwer as Deacon was definitely the best part of the game

I think for me, Nolan is just sort of a bit of obvious of a pick I guess? He doesn't stand out to me as well as he does at his characters. Idk it's tough for me to explain. I’m not gonna claim his performance was as amazing or nuanced as some of the other picks on this list, but I really have to mention Jesse McCartney’s Roxas. Ever since I first heard it, “I guess my summer vacation is over” has just really stuck with me for some reason I can’t quite explain. He just really captured the feeling of a child who has been catapulted into a scenario of beings who must seem like gods to him far beyond his control when all he wants to do is hang out with his friends and eat ice cream. Yet at the same time, in that moment, he was willing to give it all up for a greater good he didn’t quite understand but knew he had to do. There was just so much tragedy and innocence to his character that made you feel for him in such a short amount of time, even though you’d spent the first couple hours begging for Sora to come back. This might be a reverse of Abubakar Salim where the writing - and ESPECIALLY Yoko Shimomura’s god tier soundtrack which alone is one of the few scores that can bring me to tears every time - is carrying a performance. But I really think Jesse did a lot for the character and while I can’t claim it’s the best performance I’ve ever heard - I would award that to Mando’s Vaas - I think it’s one that deserves recognition.

There's a lot of great voice actors in the original Bungie Halo games but one of my personal favourites is Michael Wincott's Prophet of Truth in Halo 2, it perfectly captures Truth's enigmatic charisma that feels like at any second it could break away into the underlying vindictive schemer he truly is. The ones I always go back to: *Michael Bell as Raziel (Soul Reaver)/Simon Templeman as Kain (Soul Reaver)* _Honestly when it comes to Legacy of Kain performances are remarkable all over the place. In a lot of ways LOK was the original GOW dealing with themes of revenge, fate, redemption and if anything hindered it was technology. Michael and Simon playing off each other is operatic and it has great weight to it._ *T. Ryder Smith as Sander Cohen (Bishock)* _Portraying a character that is mad is a tight rope performance. Because they can be either incredibly annoying or remarkably unhinged. Ryder I feel like got that with Sander being both an inviting host and collaborator with his play but also just a gallery of insanity with splicers he's plastered and put on display as works of art. His mission along to eradicate his disciples in order to make his magnum opus is as delightful as it is demented._ *Mike Pollock as Dr. Robotnik (Sonic Franchise)* _I feel like Mike is consistently the best performer in the Sonic Franchise. He has the best delivery, punchlines even Sonic Boom while I find everyone else annoying he is just hilarious to me._ *Charles Martinet as Wario (WarioWare Gold)* _Nintendo really bumped up the comedy in WWG and hearing Charles speak full dialog and not just catchphrases really sold a fun and rotten character. It's one reason why I find the celeb casting of the films ridiclous because he can be a good performer._ *Alastair Duncan as Mimir* _The personality, story, accent Mimir has set the gold standard for a navigator NPC. While I like Fi and Midna just fine a companion like this that tells you fantastic stories of the land would really bring even more weight to Hyrule. The side story of his about his life and then the revelations that he is Puck from King Oberon's court and might very well be Merlin and Shakespeare is one of the best revelations._

8:30 On the topic of Roger's Sonic, I can see why others don't enjoy him but I personally I'm a huge fan. Yeah, Jason does fit Sonic's youthful energy better, but I love Roger for an entirely different reason. The way I see it, Sonic is just generally very relaxed. Which I think is how he stays collected as often as he does. I feel Roger's more low key take on Sonic captures that. (When the writing of the 2010s isn't giving me physical pain.) I feel this comes to a head the most in Frontiers, when he was directed to dial the voice back.
