Question.....I see that you have a Deering, and it sounds great. I'm about three months into learning on a cheap Jameson you can get online and am thinking upgrade. Brought this up to my teacher and he was avidly against it, saying it would be an expensive lateral move. I think he even said "friends don't let friends get Deerings", but I had kinda done my research and heard nothing but good things about them. He's aiming me towards a Goldtone or Goldstar. Thoughts?

Hopefully you made a choice that made you happy. I for one love my Deering. I have a custom lefty from them and I play it more than my cheap righty ones. Far more durable too, one of my right banjos has a bust in it from temp changes here in Maine. No expert, but I have no complaints with Deering
