Using Pilsen malt it's a good idea do not cover the kettle, so, DMS percursors can evaporate during boiling. Condensation that forms into kettle when covered (even when just a little covered) reatins DMS components.

It was a "I have too much citra in my fridge" recipe that worked really well. Mash: 10 lbs Maris Otter (I like a little more flavorful base malt in these) 1lb flaked oats 1lb flaked wheat Mashed at 150f I aimed for a 2:1 chloride to sulfate ratio for the water. That was recommended on a number of recipes and it seemed to do the trick. Kettle Hops: 0.5 oz Citra 60 min 2.5 oz Citra 0 min 3.0 oz Citra whirlpool at 160f for 30 minutes. Dry hops at day 3 of fermentation (and left in until kegging): 1 oz Galaxy 2 oz Citra Dry hops 5 days before kegging: 2 oz Galaxy 1 oz Citra I think if I were to do it again I'd add the flameout hops with the whirpool or drop the 60 min. Picked up a little more bitterness than I was aiming for, but it was still really good.
@mlewis38716 жыл бұрын
The OG was about 1.062 and the FG ended around 1.015 which I thought was perfect.
@ClawhammerSupply6 жыл бұрын
Too much citra....is that even a thing?? That looks solid-- I agree with the flamout hop addition -- I've brewed a few that way and noticed the same thing---they are still solid beers but had a bit more bitterness than expected.

Is there any risk of oxidation during dry hopping process?
@sebastianborghi17336 жыл бұрын
Hey, I have a couple of questions! Firstly, for how long did you dry hop the beer? Was it a two weeks-long fermentation? Why did you remove your dry'hopping during conditioning? Lastly, at what temperature did you lead primary fermentation and conditioning? I know they are a lot but I've been brewing almost the same kind of recipe over and over trying to improve it careful of all possible details! Btw this was an awesome video and the beer looked bloody juicy and fresh! Congrats!
@tylerhughes54204 жыл бұрын
She dry hopped two days. She took bag out two days before kegging because removing it can stir up dead yeast and hop material. The 2 day rest after removing was just to let yeast and hop fiber drop out of the beer.

Why would a higher mash temp lead to a higher FG? wouldn't waiting longer just bring it down more w/ more fermentation?

@ClawhammerSupply6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for commenting-- if we get trub into the keg the trub will usually settle to the bottom and come out on the first pour. It is a hazy beer so we were not too worried about it on this guy.

Since when do flaked wheat,oats,and barley not have fermentable sugars in them?
@stormsoto99526 жыл бұрын
Maybe a dumb question. So the fermentation process took a total of 9 days, once you moved it to the keg how long do you chill it for before you serve it? Also I'm assuming since it's on CO2 you don't need priming sugar since you're not bottling the beer? I'm new to this whole thing and wanna make sure I don't mess it up

EZ Water Calculator is a great tool. You have to get the water specs for your local source first, and then decide what your target is based on the type of beer. You can search that on several sites. If you are using RO water you are just starting from 0 and adding until you get to your target.
