I am from Spain and I didn't know about that flooding in North Carolina. Hope things would get better soon. Here we had a huge flooding in Valencia (east part of Spain) at the end of October. Nature could be brutal.

I got a 20 gallon claw hammer supply system but I retro fitted it with a blichmann power commander because I already had it, claw hammer is awesome. Thank you for making a great homebrew system that's great quality and affordable 🍻

You know why people brew and drink IPA? Because it's a fantastic style which is easy to make. Let's face it. It's really good. It was needed. People who actually appreciate beer aren't going to quit drinking it. It's too good. The only people who will give it up are people who drink it because everyone else drinks it. Those folks who can't tell Bud from Guinness but feel a bizarre compulsion to be accepted. People should quit making weird garbage beer and calling it IPA. Nobody really needs an IPA based on Count Chocula or Pez.

I did this! Bucket with two posts on the lid, one with a dip tube, other is typically a vent. I use it to capture star-san from a keg I'm purging from fermenter gas, and acts as the airlock.

Yeah it’s as bad as the 1916 flood in which my family lost their grist mill. My dad’s family is from North Wilkesboro and my dad told family stories about that flood.

3:39 So, the electrical grid contains some protective devices called "explosive disconnectors" that literally contain a small explosive charge, which accounts for the 'gunshot' noise. ♥

One part of my family is from Swannanoa, another is from Marshall - it's been so heartbreaking to see how bad those places were hit. We feel lucky that the rest of the family in Black Mountain and Waynesville did OK. Just unreal.

It's the modern fruity variants, the inundation of Hazy or NEIPA variants that I'm over. Give me a Deschutes Fresh Squeezed (blue label), Ninkasi and so forth, that more endemic Pacific Northwest style will never get old to me. Australia had the Noisy Minor ANZUS IPA and still has the Windjammer IPA but so many have totally lost touch with what an IPA is traditionally.

Yeah, spent years working in Asheville, driving all those roads, and it's really unrecognizable. It's like a war zone. My post-Helene experience wasn't as bad since I'm a good way south, but we still got hit harder than anyone could ever remember us being hit. Trees down everywhere and no power for 8 days. Everyone lost what was in their frigidaire's and freezers, grocery stores were barren, only one or two gas stations running, and everyone hunting for ice! It was crazy. What I learned, though, was that Old Tech wins every time, and I've been trying to get that message out to folks up in NC who are still doing without. When I lost power here, all of my battery-powered stuff was DOA from just sitting unused for so long... but my aptly named Hurricane Lanterns worked flawlessly. I had plenty of light and those things are perfectly safe contrary to what movies will have you believe. I might have burned through a quart of oil keeping the evenings lit enough to read and play solitaire. Outside, again, the Old Tech won the day because my chainsaw was acting up after not running for a year. My axe, hatchet, and pruning saw worked perfectly. Not as fast as a chainsaw, but I also didn't have to hunt for fuel and oil. What really struck me, though, was the peace of mind the Old Tech brought. Sure, fancy new whizbangs might seem nice, but they also tie you to desperation as you constantly have to worry about finding fresh batteries, getting enough sun on overcast days, or driving around for propane tanks, gas, etc. The whole time I was without electricity, my mind was at peace because I knew I had the skills and tools to get work done... and didn't have to wade in to the mess that was town. Feuerhand Lanterns are the best on the market and worth every penny. Plus, they give you wonderful ambiance even when there is electricity. Sitting on the porch at night, those lanterns casting their warm, flickering light.... well, that's really nice! I'm recommending everyone buy one, especially the "pure white" models that look good with every decor and brighten up a room even when they're not lit. Feuerhand is the last maker in the West, all the other companies either dead or shuffled off to china, so I think buying Feuerhand is definitely a good thing. And if you want to, donate one to the Relief Effort in NC/TN. Lots of people still without power, and those lights really do help ease a troubled soul! Once this unpleasantness is over, I'll drive back up to Asheville and stop in for a beer.

What evidence is there a flood of this magnitude happened 1000 years ago in Asheville? How do we know if it ever happened before? Maybe it was a unique event in the history of humans??
@hitch4645Күн бұрын
That’s not what the phrase “thousand year flood” means. It’s based off of the likelihood of an event, not a certain amount of time. A hundred year flood is a flood with a 1% chance of happening in a given year, a thousand year flood is a flood with a .1% chance of happening in a given year, etc.

Thank you for sharing your experience, people fear they're being forgotten as the national media attention dwindles by the day. I'm in Mauldin and i'm glad to hear our fire department was able to assist you. ❤ I don't know if people realize how difficult it was to get around in the beginning, the drive from Asheville down Hwy 25 into Greenville county normally takes an hour, but after Helene some roads down here were blocked for over a month. It's Nov 26th and trees are still piled up on the sides of secondary roads, just up the road in NC it's so much Worse where many people lost their lives, thousands lost their homes even the land where their homes once stood. It's heartbreaking to know people are living in tents in the freezing cold.

1000 yr flood is past tense. with the warming that Ma Terra has gone under and will go under until either we humans stop it or it kills us all this was not a 1000 yr flood. This flood is now a common thing. Ashville be ready to see this again within the next 50 yr if not next yr. The central Atlantic is getting hotter every yr. This means more and of ones like this one and more often. What was it 23 weather related emergences in 24 and we still have Dec to get through. 23 came form ABC news Phx.
