I was an arcade technician for about 7 years at a local theme park and watching this video brought back so many memories of opening machines like this up and replacing the switches/buttons and cleaning it out. It was also fun setting up arcade cabinets for free play for free play events. Speaking of which, we have an arcade convention in my city coming up at the end of the month!

As a huge fan of Raiden who played an original Raiden arcade machine back in the day, this was a fascinating watch. Super jealous of the cabinet with the Fabtek branding and everything. While I never saw a Raiden 2 machine in person, the original Raiden machine I played had the same kind of setup with that same Fabtek overlay on the sticks, so this one definitely captures that same essence from back then which is highly nostalgic. If I could own any arcade cabinet (which isn't possible due to space) it would be the original Raiden without a doubt. I also wanted to say that your video on arcade PCBs was what got a troglodyte like me into arcade setups. I basically copied your exact configuration from that video right down to the PSU, and now I have Raiden 1, 2, and DX boards running off it. Thanks so much for that extremely helpful video!

A few things Yes, your cabinet is a generic HS-5 that was sold as a kit. The empty kit cabs were the only ones with the HS-5 label at the front left just above the coin door. OEM cabinets did not have this. Also most OEM use cabinets like Street Fighter II did not have the plywood shelf just below the monitor. They only had the pull out drawer. Lastly, i do believe you are missing two control panel latches. All Dynamo cabs come with at least two control panel latches. Yours looks to be the fighter variation that used 3 latches. You can verify this by looking for two additional holes on the left and right of the plywood area holding the current latch you have. Finally, there is a Dynamo ID thread on KLOV. It would be nice to verify your model number against the current list.

I've owned an HS-5 for about 10 years and it truly is an awesome workhorse cabinet. Mine started life as SF2 Champion Edition, was converted to Marvel Super Heroes at some point, but I converted it to Super Street Fighter 2 when I got it. I actually got lucky and the original owner had just flipped around the SF2 bezel over when he converted it, so it still has it's original SF2 CE artwork. Really cool machine, but a huge pain to move for sure. I had to take the doors off the hinges to get it in and out of my office when I kept it there.

Dude, be careful with weight limitations on the second floor of your house. I doubt having 3 or 4 machines in one room on the second floor is going to be good. I've had a few pianos over the years and we always had to check the stability of the house and the specific spot to make sure it wouldn't cause the house to sag over time, which did happen with one old house I lived in and we ended up having to install some jacks in the basement until things could get shored up. I've always lived in old wooden houses, so I'm sure experiences will vary. Awesome score though! I've also always wanted a Raiden cabinet. Congrats, lucky!

It's the perfect sweet spot between the slow, simple vertical shooters of the 80s and the largely tedious bullet hell shooters that became the only type of vertical shmup made after the 2000s. My local arcade (Pocket Change, at the long since demolished Oak Ridge Mall) had it in a Dynamo HS5 as well, and it was insanely popular; the only other machines I remember consistently having to wait in line to play were SF2 Turbo, MK3, and Killer Instinct. Awesome video! Having a real arcade to replay all those beloved games and share with friends is one of the things I recommend to anyone who can accommodate at least one in their homes! I also bought an arcade cabinet almost 20 years ago, I got lucky because it's the same model I used to play as a teen, since most generic arcades were built by the same local company. It took a long time to finally get it the way I wanted to: I replaced the original controller panel with a custom one with plexi glass and no ashtrays (yuck), added 2 extra buttons on the sides for pinball games, replaced the bad CRT with a SONY Trinitron TV, replaced the single speaker with stero speakers + amplifier, and added a P4 tower running XP + ArcadeVGA AGP + MALA + MAME. Everything is serviceable since it's just a computer and a TV. Then I added the "All Killer, No Filler" gamelists + a few of my favorites not on those lists, bought a LOT of old coins and I'm set for life! Power machine on, wait for MALA, select game, insert a REAL coin, play!

Unloading it in my house all by myself, without cranes or anything of the sort was nothing short of an odissey. I was born in 1980, and I think this video is an amazing example of just how amazing arcade machines were at the time. This was years before the NES even hit shelves, and this game came out with the sound, graphics, fluid design, and "bending" lasers? The animation on this game alone is amazing for the year.

I've been watching lots of your old videos learning about all the PC games I've ignored over the years as a console peasant but Raiden is a banger

Very nice, (lol Viper Phase I is my dream PCB). The Dynamo cab looks amazingly flexible, thanks for turning me onto it. My new bucket list is to find one (or at least the control panel) and do a build or restore.

I really like the cleaner look of having the joystick dust covers underneath. Even as a kid the ones on top irritated me with the jiggling around.

I discovered Raiden on the SNES when i was young and converted a arcade 1up to the Raiden Fighters cabinet. Awesome video

I have a real Rowe Change machine, and use my Arcade machines as piggy banks. I absolutely don't miss the days of being an operator when hauling these cabinets up a flight of stairs. Dynamo made pool tables and Ice hockey as well. If it had wood in it they had a piece of the pie. I would suggest a cry brightener instead of rejuvenation as a first option. They were made to slightly increase the heater voltage. I reserve rejuvenation for tubes that are obviously failing in one color, and electronics are not the fault.

I was just telling a friend yesterday that if I ever got an arcade cabinet it would have to be Raiden II! That’s awesome man!

Raiden II was one of the best games I played in the arcades next to Tekken Tag 1. Glad you got it restored to it's classic glory.

random, but i so love the "explosion" sound from this game. it's so iconic, to me. a lot of things from the raiden series are quite iconic.

I played this game on PC a lot back in the day, it was all a feat to beat it. But it's even mote of a feat to have an arcade cabinet of it, congrats on getting it! Hope you make a review of Raiden II eventually.
