As a Talking Heads fan who has never heard anything by Phish before, I just want to say this a fine cover.

Not into Phish as well but it is a good cover. they do good covers. Quinn the Eskimo / Mighty Quinn was a cool version along with Sweet Jane & Cities. Great live band - would love to see them if I had some extra cash & time.

They covered the Remain in Light album on 10-31-96 second set. It is great (my first show too), but they nailed it, they kept the jams shorter more like the album but still worth a listen.

Was there, definitely the highlight of the night. Come back to this jam often

Was 10th Row Page Side that night....this video somehow doesn't do it justice but the place went bonkers when they opened with C&P in Set 2. Another show that didn't disappoint

The Talking Heads/Brian Eno original is great--and so is this cover, which takes the piece to its extreme consequences. Both exceptionally good in their way.

Remain in Light is one of my favorite albums of all time, and never having heard Phish before, I wasn't sure about them covering Crosseyed and Painless . . . but honestly this is pretty damn good. One can be a big fan of a band (as I am, of Talking Heads) without being a prissy purist about it . . . would be nice if people were a bit more open-minded.
@brucebrandy94334 жыл бұрын
I agree, it would be nice. Hell, I'd be thrilled if the box-bound waterheads even spoke kindly and were willing to compromise. Take myself, for example. Before 11/21/97, I couldn't stand The Stones "Emotional Rescue". But on that Friday night in November inside the Mothership in Hampton,VA., The Phish from Vermont opened the 2-day(now legendary) run there with their debut cover of it and melted my face right off of my head. So I compromised, and, although I haven't heard the original since, I dig it.

They did a amazing cover of Remain in Light on 10-31-96 it’s definitely worth a listen. I highly recommend, it made me a Talking heads fan. Also their music took an amazing change around this time and I believe it was the influence of learning that album.

The last 5 minutes of "Hood" remind me a lot of Trey's crying guitar in the 12/31/93 "Hood". AKA the day Trey became the best guitarist on the planet.

I like the more laid back feel the Phish version has. No one can keep pace with the C-E & P from the Stop Making Sense performance, so they didn't try to. On the whole, TH music has a genius simplicity that makes it perfect to cover, quit hating on the natural order of things.
@DrewD769 жыл бұрын
This is a good version but I suggest the Halloween 96' version when they did Remain in Light that whole set was great along with the entire show being amazing another great version of Crosseyed and Painless is the next show 11/2/96 in West Palm Beach. I would suggest checking them out.

I get it. I love both bands. Phish is not a Talking Heads cover band. They pay homage to bands they love and reintrepret into their jammy spaciness. Not for everyone. They are also way past their prime in this version. Check out kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXTCfaOHfbBpmJI from 1996. A little more energetic with Santana's percussionist. You can stop at 10m unless you like it.

Hahaha at all the butthurt Talking Heads "fans" (pretty negative people so I find it hard to consider you real fans of shit) hating on this kickass cover... I'm pretty sure David Byrne was cool with them covering Remain in Light in it's entirety in 96, or the score of other Heads covers they've done over the years, or if he was he didn't say anything about it when interviewing them years ago. You guys realize Phish and Byrne are all buds right? If HE respects the hell out of them covering Heads songs, you should at least keep your damn mouths (fingers) shut (still)...
@writer1252 жыл бұрын
Tina Weymouth loved their cover of the whole album back in 96. She even said that. Even if the other members didn't say anything.

Judging by the numbers you and your musically-out-of-touch opinion are in the minority, along with the rest of the remarks that reflect how many people haven't read the book or "got the message" from Jerry's aura, kindness, and light, either. There's always hope, I guess.
