Regarding the "don't think too hard about gimpy": If i recall correctly, it's been confirmed by edmund that all the characters are isaac himself, as he imagines the events of the game. Potentially also the actual things happening to him when looking at ???, the lost, the forgotten and keeper. ??? Is a suffocated corpse, as isaac climbed into his toy chest. Looking at tainted ??? It's implied that isaac even consumed his own feces during his final moments. The lost represents isaacs lost soul, wandering the basement, not ascending to heaven or even being sent to hell. He's literally... lost. Not even finding closure after death. The forgotten is a skeleton, who is, well, forgotten. Isaac died in his toy chest, and his mother just forgot him. Funfact: a human corpes takes about 5-7 years to decay until only bones are left. Sure, isaac is just 5, he probably goes a bit quicker, but at the same time the chest is possibly prserving him decently well, so I'd just estimate these 5 more years are a decent timeframe. For the keeper, it's more simple. Isaac is literally suicidal. Again, he's 5. But a little thing about the items (not unlike gimpy): consider the spoon and belt. They both give isaac a speed up. Also consider items like chemical peel, the toothpick or 120Volt, these are clearly items that make isaac injure himself. And maybe think about the food items as well. Brealfast is a carton of spoiled milk. Dinner is some goop in a dog bowl (perhaps dog food?). tl:dr: The binding of isaac is a VERY fucked up game.
