You missed where Newt called Ripley "mommy" right at the end. In the extended version of this movie, you find out that Ripley's daughter, who was like 11 or 12 in the first movie, died a year before the start of this movie. It really emphasizes Newt and Ripley's connection.

Amanda Ripley. Original script actually had planned to have Ripley having a video chat with he daughter, who wasn't at all happy to see her(on account of her being gone for 50 years without telling where or the details and now trying to reinsert herself into Amanda's life) but that was scrapped and instead Burke tells that Amanda died while she was frozen.

Sigourney Weaver's reaction to the Queen Alien is genuine. During filming, she had avoided seeing the Queen so as to maximize the "shock and horror" of Ripley's meeting her ultimate nemesis. The Queen Alien is the crown (heh heh) jewel of Stan Winston and his 'creature shop' of special effects.
@jamesfrench72992 жыл бұрын
Wasn't even scary. In usual American fashion it was overdone and looked like big dragon. The one in Alien was far more terrifying because the designers knew how to get to you in a visceral way. The domed silver head, lighting and showing less of it served it better.

@@jamesfrench7299 that is a little unfair although I'm presuming from your comment you are trying to say it to show off. They worked really hard to ensure the aliens looked similar to the concept art from HR Giger. There was a real thematic aspect that ran through the sets and aliens. The Queen looked the part and nothing like a dragon. Yes Aliens wasnt as scary but it wasnt meant to be - this was the gun ho marines in space sequel whereas Alien was the gothic horror film. They couldn't just repeat what they did before. If Stan Winston's work is overdone American, what is good in your view?

Love how at 15:45 you said: There's so many! The movie was made with 6 extras in Xenomorph suits :D Just 6 suits, and Cameron made it feel like there were hundreds. One thing I love about Ripley's arc though, is at the start, after Alien, she's damaged... and then finds out she's lost her daughter. Then, by act 3, she doesn't hesitate to go into the literal nest to save a child that's not even hers. Like, literally no hesitation. She arms up, gets in the lift, stretches her neck ready for hell, and as the doors open, she just faces it head on like a fucking badass. No fucking around, she wants the kid back, no punches pulled, and no regrets. After all the damage and nightmares, all the regrets, all the pain, the suffering, and the anxiety, all the PTSD, all the mocking, and all the put-downs and her losses and her wavering confidence in humanity... she arms up, and goes headlong into certain death to save another human being. At the end, and a lot of people miss it, is she's rewarded with Newt calling her "Mommy". Greatest sequel of all time.

5:35 That is the actor who played Kyle Reese in Terminator. There are 3 actors that are in both Aliens and Terminator. Michael Biehn is the actor who plays the marine named Dwayne Hicks in Aliens. He flirts a bit with Ripley at times, and also agrees with her that they should take off and nuke the whole place from space, because it is the only way to be sure. Biehn played Kyle Reese, Sarah's protector from the future, in Terminator; in Terminator, we learn that Reese was John Connor's father. Then there is Lance Henriksen, who in Aliens plays the android named Bishop (who does much better for humans than his counterpart, Ash, did in the original Alien!). In Terminator, Henriksen plays a police detective named Ed. Other than the line said to him, "Ed, shut up", I am not sure how to describe him, except he was white and his boss - Lieutenant Traxler - was black (and both of them - and many other officers - are later killed in the police station by the Terminator). Then there is Bill Paxton. In Aliens, Paxton is the marine named Hudson, who had Bishop doing the fast-knife-stabbing-between-fingers early on, and later Hudson freaks out a few times ("Game over man, Game over!"). In Terminator, Paxton was one of the three punks that the Terminator encounters early on, when he was naked and needed clothes: Paxton was the leader of the punks and he had blue, spikey hair. And relatedly ... there is Jenette Goldstein, who plays the tough female marine, Vasquez, in Aliens. In Terminator 2 (not in Terminator), she plays John Connor's foster mother ("She's not my mom, Todd"), who gets copied by the liquid-metal Terminator and talks on the phone to John.

Second factoid: The stunt guy that was wearing the Alien suit in the scene where Newt was standing in the water was worried sick that she would be scared. Prior to filming that scene, he wanted to know if she was going to be ok. Carrie Henn basically gave him the "thumbs up". She was quite the little trooper! Carrie was open to doing a sequel if necessary, but that never eventuated and we got...well...Alien 3. We never saw her after that and she moved on as young people do.

Such subtle expressions between Ripley and the queen. Call off your minions or I burn your kids. Ok, cool. Oh, now you're let them hatch, ok. Now I burn them all. This is my favorite James Cameron movie. Great reaction, thank you.

Okay, I'm happy to see I'm not the only one who thinks for a second that Ripley's arm is ripped off at the end of the movie. I guess they did that on purpose when they edited the movie. Imagine watching this 30 years ago on a low-quality VHS videotape (mine was recorded from TV, so even worse quality). I always got confused as hell! hahaha

Delightful fun watching your reactions🤩. Alien creatures are frustrated and misunderstood, an existence evading the dreaded Spaceballs. A good song and dance number and those Aliens are fun creatures. Like how Bishop attempted to channel his inner Arnold from T1.

Enjoyed the reactions to one of the best Sci-Fi action movies ever made. Not sure if this was mentioned or if you two did any research on these movies, but there are 6 Alien movies out with rumors of another in the works. The Alien movies are... Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien Resurrection, Prometheus, and Alien Covenant. While Prometheus and Alien Covenant are not liked well by the fan base they do tell more of the lore to the Aliens. There are 5 Predator movies out right now and they are... Predator, Predator 2, Predators, The Predator, and Prey. There are 2 Alien Versus Predator movies they are... Alien Versus Predator known as AVP and Alien Versus Predator Requiem. Hope this list helps and I am looking forward to more reactions in the future!

Thanks! We're taking a break from filming for a few weeks, but once we reconvene, Predator will be one of the first movies that'll get covered. I hope you'll enjoy the video! I don't know about the sequels right now. The comments are dominated by "Don't dare watch Alien 3."

Tori... as she clutches the cat real tight during the first 5 minutes and saying to herself in her mind: "I AM PROTECTING MY FOOFUR!!" Also to note... those loaders were actually functional props in the movie since Cameron like the sense of immersion and occasional grounded practicality. Plus, SIgourney Weaver was nominated for an Academy for Best Actress in Aliens. but lost out to Marlee Matlin's performance for Children of A Lesser God. But she also holds the accolade of being the first actress to be nominated in a science fiction film.

Michael Biehn was Reese in the Terminator. bill Oaxton who plays Hudson was one of the punks the Terminator kills in the beginning of Terminator. And Lands Henrikson was one of the Policemen. All three actors often appear in James Camerons films

The story of the actress playing Vasquez is that she auditioned with the belief the movie was about street gangs ( based on the movie's title ). That's why the character is that way.

Ripley is the ultimate. Sarah came after. Ripley was always bad ass and smart, Sarah had to become both. So to me Ripley #1. I love how female oriented this movie is. Ripley and Vasquez ran rings around the men. And the final battle is between two mothers. No man or any force is as powerful or vicious than a mother protecting her young.

There's an Alien book that explains why Ripley was lost in space for 50+ years. These marines were picked by the company because there f-ups and their officer is easily manipulated being so inexperienced. Did you notice they're re-using the music from Star Trek 2?

This was one of the better sequels. A lot of the stars of this movie starred in Terminator 2. John Connors's foster mom was Vaquez in this movie. Also in the first terminator, Lance Henrikson played one of the detectives and it also starred Bill Paxton and Michael Biehn who played Hundson and hicks in this movie. The APC in the movie was actually a decommissioned British Airways tug used for towing Jumbo jets. The APC was so heavy that they had to reinforce the floor of the power station where they filmed. For one shot they had used remote cameras and lucky they did because the breaks failed and would have crushed the cameramen. The shot where the face hugger attaches to Ripley was filmed in reverse to make it look like one action lastly the scene in the Sulaco's hold when Ripley first uses the Mech suit if you look carefully the loaders behind her are also operated by Ripley. Have a great day.
