Some wrong things to point out: -Dual channel is not dual rank, i think it concerns the number of chips on the stick itself -there is a program usually used in tandem with ryzen mem Calc to detect the specific ram chip type on your stick way better than cpuz and guessing which variant it is Great vid tho very informative and chill
@ChadDidNothingWrong3 жыл бұрын
Figuring out rank is Hell....just when you think you understand it, some damn stick comes along that seems to break the logic of it all! ...like dual rank is supposed to be faster, but then a special late release of 2666 8GB sticks still running dual rank is somehow faster than the comparable dual rank verison?,wtf mate
@teh0wnz0r763 жыл бұрын
@@ChadDidNothingWrong its prolly faster due to better silicon. anyway, joses right. single rank iirc is basically modules on only a single side, dual rank got mem modules on both sides. rank =/= channel. dual channel jus mean u got 2 sticks in a pair, in the correct slots
@oliwek702 жыл бұрын
@@teh0wnz0r76 ...two sticks in a pair that you put in the right slots on the motherboard (usually 1st and 3rd, or 2nd and 4th slots). When you buy dual channel ram it has been tested together, on the same motherboard. Dual rank is a module with chips on both side, so a single stick can be dual rank, but not dual channel.

Interesting video. I don't think it's simply the BIOS that was trashing the RAM, I'm sure the general architecture of the board plays a part as well.

I have the Gigabyte B450i with a Ryzen 5 2600, and trying to run the XMP for my Corsair LPX 3200MHz DDR4 will just BSOD. Now, here's the interesting thing. In the XMP Profile, the tRC value is 54, however if I change the tRC to 56, the Gigabyte board is quite happy to run it nice and stable at 3200MHz.
@RobMoore014 жыл бұрын
there is a little app that will read and create a file for the Ryzen calc tool to read (better than the built in R-xmp) Also it is a good idea to set your FCLK to 50% of the RAM speed so for 3600 you want 1800 FCLK. I found some patriot viper 4133 ram really cheap (B-Die) and run it at 3600 with tight timings. I think 3600 is the sweet spot and anything over 3800 you start to see drop offs.
@Adamant_IT4 жыл бұрын
I haven't played with Fabric Clock yet, but I've also been hearing the 50% rule, and really want to test it out on my up-coming AMD build.

I can't get my Corsair 16gb Vengeance RGB Pro ddr4 3200mhz to actually run at 3200, on my gigabyte aurous elite b450 ATX board it will run at 3000mhz but not 3200mhz. I had to turned on xmp and mess with the CPU multipler instead I know something on my ram is at 50 cas I was also getting BSOD every time I had xmp 3200mhz set up but 3000mhz works fine so I've left ir Think I'll give this a go Update 8.08.20: I re enabled XMP and manually enter the TRas setting from 53 to 56 and saves the profile as a new one on my Gigabyte Aurous Elite b450 board and it's been working at 3200mhz for 3 weeks now

my ddr3 xmp never ran stable (matched pair 2x8gb), so i ran it without xmp. but this year i added 2x4gb different brand different timings, which should have been unstable, runs stable with xmp off

Done mem tests (4×16gb ddr)...all pass (mem works OK in other pc). I shall study this video and see if there's clues to my problem in here 👍

Some budget AM4 Gigabyte boards will have a very slightly higher BCLK ie ruining @100.?MHz I have an Asus board and the BCLK is set to 99.8MHz im guessing the Gigabyte board you have is set to something like 100.?MHz that itself will have a negative effect when trying to set XMP as you are then asking it to run just over its rated speed. If they are just stable @the rated speed adding a few more MHz with of course worsen the situation again due to the BCLK being very slightly over 100MHz. I'm not sure if this applies to all Gigabyte AM4 boards maybe just there budget option but I notice it on a Gigabyte X370 and B450 board, something to look into if nothing if nothing else I guess. Luv the content Sir 👍

I wish I had this guide 10 years ago. I'm still have my 10 yo desktop with a gigabyte mainboard with an i7 and a triple channel 3x 2Gb ram sticks. I never managed to run that ram at their stock speed . For some reason the mainboard clocks it slower than it should and chrashes with XMP on. Maybe I'll give it another go.

also Rank is if u have 1 or 2 sided ram not if ur in dual channel. if u have 2 dimms and they are in the correct slots then u will be in dual channel or double data rate
@Adamant_IT4 жыл бұрын
Ah yea, I just confirmed that - thanks for the tip! Although be careful with the second bit - dual channel is not the same as double data rate.

I had a 8gb 2400 kit not run at 2400 but then later on i upgraded to 16gb at 3000mhz and it runs the xmp perfectly fine on the same mb. so yeah xmp is weird sometimes
@ChadDidNothingWrong3 жыл бұрын
Both kinds are going to have timings pushed to the limit for their respective speeds, (and much tighter on the 2400, like CL12 instead of 18 or 20) so that's not surprising....they probably just left a bit more leeway with the 3000 ram.

@@redpotatoes8714 I know it's a little bit late, but maybe the motherboard battery (A small and flat one) is dead or making bad contact? That battery is there to maintain the settings and clock when there's no power to the board.

Wow would have been great if KZbin gave me this video instead of the other crap when I tried searching stuff about RAM. I built a system and used a friends old 1800x for a few weeks while I got the money to purchase a 3600 and had to drop my 3600MHz RAM to 3200MHz. Would have been nice to try getting 3400 or maybe even the full 3600 out of it. Although I guess I could try and get in slightly better timings maybe? Although honestly i'll just revert them as soon as I get a system crash while playing a game so...

XMP is BS. Always has been. At best it will work if you're only using as many modules as you have controller channels. You make the choice to either overclock or to value stability, and yes XMP is overclocking - it is almost always going to run your memory controller out of spec as far as your CPU manufacturer is concerned. Just buy the normal JEDEC RAM speeds. Also I love how you got literally 1 point higher on the Timespy with the 'optimized' settings.
