@georgelands2028 Жыл бұрын
@@TotalAlchemy basically, the 'conventions' that our unwritten constitution operate on are gentlemen's agreements. Things operate the way they do because that's the way they've worked for years. Until mavericks like Johnson and Cummings come along, and just do things the way they want to, because there are no actual rules written down anywhere. It's why we need a written constitution.

There are two mysteries that baffle a lot of us on the continent. The first is how somebody like the former mayor of London with a legacy of a phantom bridge and other "achivements " could become Prime Minister and the second one is Brexit. Is there anyone out there who can solve/explain those mysteries in a few words ?

You clearly overestimate the average intelligence of the average Brit... In answer to your first question - Boris is a character played by a sociopath called Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson who convinces people he's harmless but he's actually a clever conduit used to syphon public money into his pockets (and those of his friends). And secondly - we still have a bit of an 'Island mentality' and it's easy to drum up nationalistic tropes of them & us, people lap it up. And we think we're better that everone else and think we can do everything better (when in fact we're absolutely not).
