Thanks David for putting this up, just ordered one for my mill. Now all my holes will go where they are supposed to!

Thank you for this video. Funny how a video with no speaking was more helpful and informative than the chinglish instructions that came witb the unit.

I'm sure if you had a ball mill, the steps on the slopes would be smoother.

Just like life is too short to learn German, life is too short not to have a dro. Mandatory!

Looks pretty schmick. In the examples prior to arc processing, I'm surprised the layout illustration doesn't include an indication of the location of the center of the tool, like a current location dot in a GPS app

Does your milling machine have two power feeders, one X and the other Y axis? What machine is this?
@myfordboy3 жыл бұрын
Power feed on X only. Not worth fitting to the y as it is shorter My mill: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJ-2nX2bjsyMaNk

I did a video a while ago with a different DRO but the same method applies to this one. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qH-WZpippq2JrpY

What happened to the other DRO you had?
@myfordboy4 жыл бұрын
I sold it. Nothing wrong with it but this one came out recently and is nicer to use. The other had the same functions.

I was initially disconcerted because I thought the DRO was displaying inches and seemed to have a resolution no better than +/- 5 thousandths. Then I realized that the DRO was displaying millimeters and the resolution was +/- 5 microns.
@amanofmanyparts91203 жыл бұрын
As I understand it, for a small increase in price, you can have 1 micron scales to give (at least notionally) more accuracy.
@drpipe4 жыл бұрын
Anyone know if you can use with regular Linear scales ?..
@myfordboy4 жыл бұрын
Will work with the usual glass or magnetic slides.
@drpipe4 жыл бұрын
myfordboy thanks.. fittings on mine are those small usb ?
@myfordboy4 жыл бұрын
That's not compatible. The consoles use a 9 pin D connector. Sounds like your scales are like those used on digital calipers, capacitance.
@drpipe4 жыл бұрын
myfordboy thanks for the Reply 🙏 I thought there maybe a way around that. That consult would definitely help me looks decent. Great channel like watching a lot of your projects.

@@drpipe changing the scales looks the only way to go then. The ones I used are very cheap.

Man, a DRO makes finding your spot SO much easier and quicker. Even as a home hobbyist I was able to justify the low cost of these dros for my machine.
@howardosborne86474 жыл бұрын
@@user-wo7rz3yn4o Fully agree with you,Don. These DRO units are not expensive and once you've used one and realised fully the convenience and simplicity they add to milling operations fitting one is a no brainer I wouldn't relish going back to peering at inscribed dials and writing reminder notes every time I machined another step.
@rogerwilliams29024 жыл бұрын
If you are just using the milling machine for pleasure , that wont pay for itself or make a profit either 😦, or the TV, or your coffee machine.............
