When I heard this for the first time, after about 1 minute I thought: "Those keys are going to get a bit irritating if they don't change". 7 minutes later: "That's one of THE best songs I've ever heard".

So, then, in celebration of paradoxes. “All My Friends” is happy and it’s sad. It’s naïve, but also disillusioned. It can make you feel twenty again. It makes you feel forty before your time. It makes you feel twenty and forty at once. It spirals into drug-fueled escapism, and it spirals into nostalgia. It’s mature. It’s the sound of sobering up. It’s the song you play as the party peaks. It’s the song you put on headphones when you walk home in the early hours of the morning, and some nights you triumphantly reminisce about all the experiences of your life, but maybe the edges are haunted and just as you step up to your front door and Murphy’s last refrain echoes “If I could see all my friends tonight” you also know you’re searching, too, that you feel all the dejection and isolation that’ve been as much a part of these last thirteen years as a new online version of community, or as much as anything else. It’s a song about 1987 and 1997 and 2007 and probably 2017. Even weighed down by all of this, it still moves. And because we have no other option, because this is our new millennium life: We still move, too. - Stereogum - Ryan Leas - 2013

I get a bit teary eyed watching this now. I was there, hadn't seen LCD before. Really only knew that song but myself and some friends took a chance and it paid off and then some. We fell instantly in love with them from the first song. That final song though.. That weekend was a tiring weekend of drizzle and mud. Everywhere you went took twice as much effort (but still an amazing weekend). So when he sang, "if you're worried about the weather then you picked the wrong place to stay", in the video you can hear a little of the crowd cheer - but I was there, the place erupted!

I live in Western Ma.... went to get gas about a year ago and while at the pump the person that pulled up next to me had an LCD Soundsystem “DiscoBall” shirt on, it absolutely triggered me and kicked in my musical nerd persona. we spent a good 10 minutes discussing LCDSS as well as the plethora of music that came out of that NYC scene from the early 2000’s. might be silly, but still to this day it fills my heart that there’s others out there that appreciate this caliber of music. I really just hope that this band and sound continues to live on forever and the next generation appreciates how epic and beautiful these songs are. James M. really gives me hope in regards to “ it doesn’t matter how old you are, you can still leave your mark on the world”...

I remember the first time I heard this song my music producer friend and I were in high school and really into Franz Ferdinand, we were on the school computers in class looking up music and Franz Ferdinand had done a cover of this song so we looked up the original and instantly fell in love with LCD Soundsystem, we've seen them twice live since, their/his music brings back so many great memoires with my friend try searching Lonely Gimmick - Stay At Home To Sleep In, we've been through a lot together so I wanna throw him some love. He's a music producer and that's his music. He's really talented and deserves more recognition. He does it all himself a lot like James Murphy

That's how it starts We go back to your house We check the charts And start to figure it out And if it's crowded, all the better Because we know we're gonna be up late But if you're worried about the weather Then you picked the wrong place to stay That's how it starts And so it starts You switch the engine on We set controls for the heart of the sun One of the ways we show our age And if the sun comes up, if the sun comes up, if the sun comes up And I still don't wanna stagger home Then it's the memory of our betters That are keeping us on our feet You spent the first five years trying to get with the plan And the next five years trying to be with your friends again You're talking 45 turns just as fast as you can Yeah, I know it gets tired, but it's better when we pretend It comes apart The way it does in bad films Except in parts When the moral kicks in Though when we're running out of the drugs And the conversation's winding away I wouldn't trade one stupid decision For another five years of life You drop the first ten years just as fast as you can And the next ten people who are trying to be polite When you're blowing eighty-five days in the middle of France Yeah, I know it gets tired only where are your friends tonight? And to tell the truth Oh, this could be the last time So here we go Like a sail's force into the night And if I made a fool, if I made a fool, if I made a fool On the road, there's always this And if I'm sewn into submission I can still come home to this And with a face like a dad and a laughable stand You can sleep on the plane or review what you said When you're drunk and the kids leave impossible tasks You think over and over, "hey, I'm finally dead" Oh, if the trip and the plan come apart in your hand You look contorted on yourself your ridiculous prop You forgot what you meant when you read what you said And you always knew you were tired, but then Where are your friends tonight? Where are your friends tonight? Where are your friends tonight? If I could see all my friends tonight If I could see all my friends tonight If I could see all my friends tonight If I could see all my friends tonight

In 2016 when I first watched this live it totally blew my mind. It was like an everyday pill for me. And then BBC took it away. So happy to see this back on KZbin again. Perfect live version of All My Friends. With Keyboardist either robotically or shamanly holds the whole beauty of the song and plays that tune for almost 8 minutes; Look at his face at 6:28 The whole song start kickin'-in at the end; Murphy and Doyle go crazy at 5:30 James makes mistakes in lyrics at 6:39 And this heartwarming "please get home safely" at the end. I love every part of this performance. Brilliant!
