God, I miss hearing a true Charleston accent. My mother, grandparents, their siblings, back 9 generations all spoke like this. It’s so rare to hear since Hugo and the internet. 🥲

That's funny, I have this video saved for that exact reason, I miss hearing the accent. All the folks I knew who spoke it are gone.....now that my dad is getting older I am finally starting to hear it out of him again. I always hope there is some linguist that can figure it out. I would be so interested to know how much is poor Scots/English/whatever and how much is the Gullah that raised them.
