GTX is not a racing oil. And of course the bearings are from different companies. That could make a big difference.

That is true. However, both bearing manufacturers are premier quality products within the industry, which leaves the oil as the main variable. I believe Castrol would work really well for a hot street car that might run a drag race on the weekends, and do so at a reasonable cost. Circle track racing is quite a different environment, however. The motors really take a beating.

I wonder if the Castrol GTX Classic with the right amount of zddp would have made a difference.

That's a very good question.

Thanks for sharing, do you have to drain the Driven GP1 after every race?

@@nicopotgieter453 We run the GP1 3 to 4 weeks and change oil and filter.

Cool, thanks for reply. So is actually cheaper to run better quality oil , than mineral that nornally has to be replaced after every race? And also benefit of engine lasting longer😅

I'm about to use this oil in my truck 10w30 full Synthetic high zinc

Obviously this is a little promo for Driven oil. Are the bearing clearances in both Engines the same to each other ? Are the engines set up and run in identical conditions ? Castrol GTX is excellent oil but in no ways a racing oil.Perhaps run GP-1 against Penn 1 and post an honest comparison.

Not a paid or compensated endorsement. Simple comparison between the two oils. Both motors were built to the same specifications and raced exactly the same manner. I've used Castrol GTX in my road vehicles and have had no issues. This comparison is in racing conditions, so take that for what it is

High test racing fuel will eat up a lot of synthetics where as conventional seems for the most part not to have this problem. Fuel dilution in motor oil is an odd thing, clash of chemistry I guess ?
@LD9user
@LD9user Жыл бұрын
I have not researched this. However, the motor is fuel injected which reduces fuel dilution. The Driven oil used here is a semi-synthetic.

Have you ever used Schaeffer oil? I've used it for years.

I have not. I'm sure it's a fine product. I believe they use Schaeffer's in the Hunt the Front dirt late models.

I hear from someone who builds quite a lot of dirt engines that he prefers Maxima, also said one guy that runs Schaeffer has a good looking engine on refreshes. Have you noticed any difference in Driven since they've been acquired?

Do you use a pre-oiler in either engine? 90% of all engine wear occurs during startup so if you are not pre-oiling your engine then you will have wear.

Thank you for the comment. Both motors were built exactly the same and produced power with 7 horsepower of each other.

What is the manufacturer recommended oil grade for that engine?
@LD9user
@LD9user 5 ай бұрын
Recommend weight is 5w30. However, we're pushing these motors well beyond what a typical street motor would encounter. Turning 5500 to 7000+ lap after lap is way too much for a typical 5w30.

You need to try running Amsoil
@LD9user

Thank you for the comment. My understanding is Amsoil makes some amazing products. Can't really complain about the performance if the GP-1 oil though. With that said, oil companies are sometimes bought out (like what happened to Brad Penn) and formulations get changed. If that happens, I'd put Amsoil at the top of my go-to list.

What's the bearing clearances, and oil temp ?
@LD9user
@LD9user 2 жыл бұрын
All clearances are within factory specs and within .0005 between the two motors. Oil temp is unknown but 1. The races are 15 laps max, each. And 2. Coolant temps were never above 205 degrees. With all that said, the Castrol was conventional 20w50 while the Driven oil was 15w40 semi synthetic. Between the two motors, the Driven oil motor ran 200 less rpms, max and ran twice as many races.

I’m sure it’s a good oil but I’m not paying $20 a quart just so I can change it every nine or 10,000 miles and that goes with all the other oils you can only buy on the Internet the claim your engine will never get dirty and I will never wear out just as long as you use their oil only that’s why myself and my parents only use mobile one and their filters $28 or less for 5 quarts and you can get Quaker State for 2399 with your extended life oil and they also make it a European blend
@LD9user
@LD9user Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment. Driven oil is around $12 per quart. With that said, these bearings are from race motors which are operating well and truly above stock design limits, so cost isn't really a factor.
