Eagles are notoriously bad at killing their prey, most times when they catch something live it goes this way with the animal only finally dying during the process of it being eaten.

I'd say the main cause of death was probably 3 inch Talons to it's internal organs while simultaneously being skinned alive, and also the razor sharp beak to it's eyes and face.

nature. on weekends as I recall it was mentioned they sometimes find fish less accessable because humans (they avoid) are out fishing. it was a young animal; if fox an older one, if wolf cub it would likely be maybe a month or so old.

or a more likely answer, is that the parent is aware from feedings what the nutrients the nestling needs, and instinctually brings back that diet with those different minerals, like cows and goats and cats and such

(yes they do occasionally bring in mammal prey but this is very seldom). I don’t suggest you are wrong but only how conditions have been around this nest in the past (say) 4-5 years.

Birds of prey are simply opportunist. If the raptor thinks the potential prey item can be taken on they will attempt it.

Milda is a wonderful mother. Children need to be fed and when they grow up they will be as mom clean the world from the weak, sick and dead animals. Eagles are sanitaries of nature, like wolves and they eat not only fish. This is a life of wildlife. This animal is a wolf child?

Not quite, a young red fox kit. But I completely agree with you, Milda is a great parent. The part where she noticed the other large peice of food not being eaten she went to give it to the other eaglet, only for the other to scream at her. Lol It was like a mom telling her kid "No wasting food! If you're not going to eat it now I'll give it to your sibling!" "Wait- no it's mine!" "Too late kiddo." The look of the audacity of that eaglet was one that made me chuckle. She tried to make it fair too, they are lucky to have her.

Awe, that is sad to watch. The tail looks like an opossum, not sure. It was screaming and Milda was pecking at the eyes. The eaglets are watching very intently as they are waiting. I love these beautiful Eagles, their color is so pretty. TY for sharing.

It’s almost comical how bad eagles are at quickly dispatching their prey. They just aren’t built to kill, so often the prey dies in the process of being consumed by the eagles. Such is nature but it’s still striking how bad they are at killing. I’ve been told that’s why they are so quick to defeather when they catch another bird, to make it impossible for the prey bird to fly away and escape.
