Greg, 51 years ago, I wrestled with God, the Spirit, over my same-sex attraction. I wanted with all my heart to not only qualify for all the eternal blessings the Lord could offer, but also to have the blessing of a family and posterity in this life. There was a lot of behavior I needed to change, and I worked to give up that behavior and return to the Church. I was 16. Now, I am past my 46th anniversary, have 5 amazing adult children, and 9 wonderful grandchildren. The same-sex attraction isn't gone. In some ways, it's as strong as ever, but I reman steadfast. What some people claim is advocacy for men like me is really discouragement. I can't tell you how many times people have told me I couldn't do it, so-called, self-styled advocates. I read somewhere recently "Just because I carry it well doesn't mean it isn't heavy." It's funny to see these advocates pat themselves on the back for encouraging people to leave the Church but have no encouragement left when it comes to encouragement to stay in the Church. I'm blessed that I don't need their encouragement, discouragement, or advocacy. I'm a big boy. I can handle the challenges with Christ's help. The load ain't heavy. He's my brother.

Thank you for this. As a man who was a porn addict for 10 years without ever saying porn was not immoral, i wish I could similarly share my story of struggling as a lifelong single since my endowment post-recovery. It's been difficult. But the features of the gospel help me to stay on the path because I want to. And i similarly resent those who claim to care about men's freedom when excusing or advocating for pornography. Thank you again for your testimony.

@@mascotbenches5146 I am not sure how to help you, but I could try. My parents raised me Christian and always let me know growing up that they loved me and that my Heavenly Father loves me. They told me once that no matter what happens in my life if I loved Heavenly Father then I would always find my way back to Him. My parents set a foundation of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ in my child self's mind and heart before I even really knew what it meant or who They were. A lot of bad stuff happened to me in my life. I was sexually abused, bullied, outcast by my peers my whole life, I was a slave to a porn addiction since I was just 10 years old. I held a lot of hate in my heart for everything and everyone. I didn't believe I was worth anything because so many people treated me badly that I eventually believed I deserved it. So I went on a huge obsessive journey to try anything and everything to find what I perceived at the time as happiness. I surrounded my self with unbelievers and abusers. I tried to fit into a community that lives morally depraved lives because I thought they were outcast like me and that if I was one of them, then they would give me the love and acceptance that I desired above all other things. All these endeavors ended in pain and more misery. During these times I would get desperate and pray like my parents had taught me and throughout all those years God would supernaturally intervene in my life. He saved me while I was getting hit by a car. I felt an angel pick me up and reverse the image the car had done. He saved me from falling off a cliff and other things like this. My parents continually and consistently prayed for me to come back to Jesus, for me to feel His love and that He is the truth I was searching for in all the wrong places. I remembered what my parents taught me every time I fell really hard in life. I would pray and God would show Himself and show me that He had the power to save me, and give me the love I always wanted. Satan tricks people. Especially lgbtq. He makes us believe that the immoral lifestyle we've chosen is actually THE right one. He gives us false happiness and fake contentment and feigned love. My family had faith in the Lord to save me and God never let me run away from Him for too long. Teach your kids about Jesus and when they are wracking their brains for a way out of Hell, they'll remember what their parents taught. And if you pray and fast in faith I believe that'll be the best you can do to give your child a fighting chance to find the Lord and be wrested from the clutches of the devil. It's not easy and my life has been very difficult and hard to live, but I now know just how much I'm loved and it made life worth living.

@@mascotbenches5146 that isn't all. There's lots your child can do if they want to be free of their lifestyle and are willing to try. There's habits and life changes they can adopt that will help them break the cycle they're trapped in.

I don't understand the desire to be a member of a church you can mold to your own will, or change by some democratic process or pressure from the membership. What would be the point? It's like looking for a doctor who tells you what you want to hear. I want a doctor who tells me eating homemade ice cream all day will cure my cancer. And that he only charges 50 cents for an appointment. I think we need doctors with less "hate" and more "love" for people who don't want any strict dietary requirements, or to pay more than they feel they can easily afford. Telling me to stop smoking or cut down on sugar is hateful, bigoted and nutri-phobic. I can't help the fact that I like sweets, and I can't help my desire to smoke. Besides, how can food that tastes so good be bad for you?? Huh? HUH??? I love ice cream, and you say that loving food is bad. How can loving something be bad? How can Love be a bad thing? God says to love, and that includes ice cream. Why are you people so hateful toward me, just because I like ice cream and cake? God doesn't hate ice cream, so why should doctors and nutritionists? It's not fair. You're preventing me from loving and enjoying my food. Stop the hate!

It kind of goes with the territory. Progressives still insist the USA is a democracy rather than a republic. They're big on democracy whenever they think they're a majority, not so much when they know they're a very small minority. And whenever it appears they're a minority, they feel justified in doing whatever it takes to "save our democracy" i.e. insure they win by whatever means necessary, even if it's not actually democratic.

Elder Corbitt (GC April 2023): It speaks so well of you that you would protect or advocate for your precious child or show signs of solidarity with him or her. But my wife, Jayne, and I know from personal experience that teaching your beloved child why we all desperately need Jesus Christ and how to apply His joyful doctrine is what will strengthen and heal him or her. Let us turn them to Jesus, who is their true advocate with the Father. The Apostle John taught, “Whosoever … abideth in the doctrine of Christ … hath both the Father and the Son.” He then warns us to beware “if there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine.”

Hit the nail on the head. 21:40 I knew people in college that were mad that the Church does baptisms for the dead. It was like they believed the Church actually had power and authority to do that, but they didn't like it. If they thought the church was just crazy, they shouldn't have had an issue with it. Similar with celestial marriage, they believe that principle is true, but don't like it and so it makes them upset. If they didn't believe it was true, they would just ignore it and it would be no big deal. They care because they know it's the truth, and they don't like it.

Very interesting, isn't it? People are funny. I've grown convinced that everyone knows the truth deep down. And they tell you where to find it by their silly reactions to things. Almost like someone hiding their money and telling everyone "hey everyone, don't look under my mattress, because it isn't there". The same with the Priesthood thing. You'd think they'd all be glad that the church was blatantly racist so they could avoid such a false church, not be deceived into joining the wrong church, etc. and just laugh at how stupid we are. It saves truth seekers alot of time & trouble to see such "obvious" signals of being the wrong place to find truth. But instead they get angry, and can't just laugh and walk away, knowing that anyone with 2 brain cells would not give it the time of day. Because on some level, even they see through all the political BS and know that nothing in reality has ever been "fair" on their fake new-agey Marxist terms. I just recently saw an interview with Sam Harris, the famous Atheist, where he came right out and admitted he believes in lying to people as long as it serves his own agenda. Until I saw that, even I didn't think he was that incredibly lacking in self-awareness. So much for the "intellectual honesty" he claims for his standards.

This is the first time I have ever see the brethren get close to saying “well if you don’t like Celestial, let’s look at your other options” as if salvation was a multi-tiered price plan. I think the reason why they usually avoid that is because, as Pres Oaks said, getting people to the highest level of the Celestial Kingdom is the mission and focus of the church. If we teach “that’s fine, consider these options” we run the risk of someone settling for a lower kingdom who would have otherwise been inspired to sacrifice more to get higher. Or even members using that as a way to absolve themselves of the responsibility of being a shepherd/minister to someone they don’t like. We’ve all seen or heard of those ward that like to “clean up the records” via excommunication or simple encouraging antagonist less active members to willingly ask to have their names removed. If we preached that lower levels are legitimate options to consider this mindset of convincing people of mediocrity to off load our sacred duty would run rampant.

Key point in this episode is God’s plan allows for diversity of outcome based on what an individual chooses/wants. Those who fight for equity of outcome, regardless of individual choices/decisions sound similar to Lucifer and those who followed him. He/they don’t care about you/your choices & desires. You do what you’re told and are ‘saved’ like everyone else, but at the expense of your agency, while he/they take all the glory for your ‘success’. Sounds a lot like certain political ideologies/philosophies of men that want to destroy your freedom and ability to choose; which is NOT God’s plan.

It’s important to point these things out with respect to our eternal happiness. A caution however. Too many members think that they are not worthy of the Celestial Kingdom. The minority that Greg is talking about does not refer to members of the Church who struggle to be what the Saviour would have them be. Mortality is a time of trial and tribulation. Those who have a testimony, or a struggling to gain that testimony, are not the ones the Brethern are addressing. We know that it is by grace that we are saved, as pointed out in 2Ne. 10: 24. Also, take a close look at Alma 33, starting in verse 16. Struggle is not the demarcation line as to whether or not one makes it to the Celestial Kingdom. Humility and looking to Christ, and doing the best we can is what does it. Pride and wanting to change doctrine to fit our behaviours is what will keep us out. Elder Bednar’s address regarding Those Of The Last Wagon clearly emphasizes the role and the importance of those who feel that they are among the least of us. To these the Saviour wraps His ever loving arms around. To those who feel among the least the promise is that you are going to the Celestial Kingdom. One of the biggest influences in my life was not Bishops and Stake Presidents, some of whom I wouldn’t give a plugged nickel for because of their haughtiness, but rather a greeter who shook my hand every Sunday when I went to Church. He was so humble and self effacing. As a youth I looked forward to seeing him. The Gospel is true. Do the best you can, which means don’t compare yourself to others but to you, and you will make it. You will stumble and fall on occasion, but when you know who to look to for help in recovery He will reach down and raise you up. Keep on the covenant path!
@rolandsmith4394
@rolandsmith4394 Жыл бұрын
Love your encouraging attitude. It is awesome. But beware of conflating salvation with exultation. Church things lead to salvation for all. Family things lead to exultation. There is no greeter who can do that, unless he was your father or husband, as well.
@larrybates8291
@larrybates8291 Жыл бұрын
I am referring specifically to exaltation for those who do not see themselves worthy. We must be very careful in trying to parse words. This is where where pride can enter in and discouragement and depression be put upon those who do not see themselves worthy. I fear too many who see themselves as “living the law” are going to fall short because their “worthiness” for callings places them above the common folk. The Saviour promises exaltation to all who choose the covenant path even when they stumble and fall. Mosiah 26 points this out very well.

I've been a bit anxious, fearing that the Church leadership might continue to bend and virtue signal. It already sets my teeth on edge when I hear any of them use the alphabet string instead of talking plainly about same sex attraction like they used to. So these talks this last conference were reassuring. I've been on that side, the side of the shrill, spoiled descendants of pioneers who think that the Church needs to change with the times. I'm glad the Church didn't try to placate me then, and I repent of those conceits.

I’ve always wondered why many parents in the church, seem to treat their LGBTQ children differently than other children that struggle with other things that keep them away from the church. If they struggle with the word of wisdom, have problems with morality(heterosexually), have problems with the law, etc., they don’t complain that the church should no longer consider those things commandments. Instead, they continue to love them, pray for them, and hope that they will some day repent and come back to church. However, with LGBTQ, they feel the church is behind the times and many fall away from the church along with their kids, rather than supporting them with love, prayer, and eternal hope like many would for other transgressions.

This video masterfully pulls together aspects of the Plan of Salvation pertaining to agency, exaltation and the focus of the Church in such a way as to bring understanding and purpose to the counsel given by our leaders and by a loving Heavenly Father. The doctrine of exaltation and the kingdoms of glory are considered from a place of opportunity and as stated, equality of opportunity. It is our agency, our choice to decide who we want to become, where we want to be prepared to be. They give counsel to help us reach as far as we desire. Thank-you for pulling this together in such an organized and succinct format!

I liked how you said “if you don’t want exaltation you don’t have to worry about it!” That made me laugh ❤ then I remembered the verse that says if we humble ourselves before God He will lift us up (exalt us). That would be kinda stubborn of us if we humble ourselves before God and then resist Him exalting us. I just realized that. But I was told to make small, reachable goals. Maybe the resistance to allowing God to exalt us comes from a fear of becoming prideful (the bad kind of pride). I guess it depends on what true humility really is. Thanks for this episode ❤

Loved the video! I'm a new convert and one thing I don't understand why people can't separate legal law vs law of God. I have no problem if people want to have a same sex legal marriage but this doesn't mean this marriage will be represented into the eternities and recognized by God. The prophets have to speak the truth even if its not popular opinion of the day.

Nobody doesn't want exaltation. They might think they do. If they think this it's only because they don't understand what it is. Probably none of us do at this point. Yet there are those posting on this very channel who say "I'm happy with terrestrial." I hear it all the time. We hear it in these kinds of statements: "you be you" and "God loves you just the way you are." Greg gave this example: "if there is no gay sex in the Celestial Kingdom, I don't want it." Satan is so powerful, he has convinced people to give up on exultation for themselves and others.

I'm pretty sure there ARE some people that don't want exaltation. Some people don't want to live in the presence of someone (God) who "dares to hold one type of marriage better than another". I know so many singles that have never been married & may not be in this lifetime. I’m sure it’s a struggle at times for them to not give into temptations of just throwing in the towel & date like the rest of the world. Myself included. It’s hard but it can be done if one is strong in their faith & wants to follow the Savior.

Great job, a firm, kind reminder of who our Saviour is and what His church seeks to accomplish in concert with Him. I think it is important to realize that striving for something is not necessarily being perfect in that which you are trying overcome. Elder Bruce R. McConkie stated: We don’t need to get a complex or get a feeling that you have to be perfect to be saved. You don’t … The straight and narrow path leads from the gate of repentance and baptism, a very great distance, to a reward that’s called eternal life. If you’re on that path and pressing forward, and you die, you’ll never get off the path … Now is the time and the day of your salvation, so if you’re working zealously in this life-though you haven’t fully overcome the world and you haven’t done all you hoped you might do-you’re still going to be saved. You don’t have to do what Jacob said, “Go beyond the mark.” You don’t have to live a life that’s truer than true. You don’t have to have an excessive zeal that becomes fanatical and becomes unbalancing. What you have to do is stay in the mainstream of the Church and live as upright and decent people live in the Church- keeping the commandments, paying your tithing, serving in the organizations of the Church, loving the Lord, staying on the straight and narrow path. If you’re on that path when death comes-because this is the time and the day appointed, this the probationary estate-you’ll never fall off from it, and, for all practical purposes, your calling and election is made sure.

One thing that some of those who would settle for the Telestial forget, is that they won't be resurrected until the second resurrection. They won't have a physical body until the end of the Millennium. So those who have spent their adult life fulfilling their physical appetites outside of a marriage between a man and a woman are going to be left feeling pretty empty and unhappy. Of course that will go for anyone living a Telestial law.

What of a man who lives righteous but never marries and has kids would be be worthy of celestial glory then if so why not exaltation. Personally find the limiting of marriage and kids to be a harm then a benefit to man. Like me I want to serve and do God's command but not marry or have kids the very though being honest both disgust and angers me mainly because I want exaltation but despise the limitation and imprisonment of having to rely upon others instead of simply myself for I can trust myself I can never trust another. I can never trust my wife to have my best interest or those kids better to rely on myself and serve God alone then shackle myself to well another person.
