I grew up in the Methodist Church and the book of Mormon changed my life when I was 23 years old, I got baptized into the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints, I was the first member in my family tree. I have a testimony of Joseph Smith and that he translated the book of Mormon by the power of God. This proves that God is the same yesterday today and forever and his Church is upon the earth now preparing his saints for his second coming! "Come and see" Jesus said;

Once looking at all the evidence and criticisms of the Book of Mormon only one answer makes sense, the story Joseph Smith told, its divinely inspired and the word of God. And as time marches on it’ll become even clearer the truth of the Book of Mormon.

Joseph Smith in the Wentworth Letter: “In this important and interesting book the history of ancient America is unfolded, from its first settlement by a colony that came from the Tower of Babel at the confusion of languages to the beginning of the fifth century of the Christian era. We are informed by these records that America in ancient times has been inhabited by two distinct races of people. The first were called Jaredites and came directly from the Tower of Babel. The second race came directly from the city of Jerusalem about six hundred years before Christ. They were principally Israelites of the descendants of Joseph. The Jaredites were destroyed about the time that the Israelites came from Jerusalem, who succeeded them in the inheritance of the country. The principal nation of the second race fell in battle towards the close of the fourth century. The remnant are the Indians that now inhabit this country.” Indigenous American populations descend from an Ancient Paleo-Siberian population, itself a combination of an Ancient East Asian lineage which diverged from other East Asian peoples prior to the Last Glacial Maximum, between 36,000 and 25,000 years ago, and subsequently migrated into Siberia, where they merged with a primarily West Eurasian (Ancient North Eurasians), deeply related to European hunter-gatherers. They later dispersed throughout the Americas after about 16,000 years ago (exceptions being the Na-Dene and Eskimo-Aleut speaking groups, which are derived partially from Siberian populations which entered the Americas at a later time).

So how do I personally gain a witness that the Book of Mormon is true? How can I confidently know that the prophet speaks to God and that he truly receives revelation?
@bartonbagnes4605
@bartonbagnes4605 Жыл бұрын
@@thomaschoate976That is man's best guess, with the miniscule amount of data they have right now. That being said, in Nephi's vision he reports seeing others inspired to come to the Americas, that doesn't exclude the possibility of those coming before Columbus, like we know the Vikings did. And there's nothing to say that those others couldn't belong to descendents of the Lost Tribes of Israel. And those descendants of Israel could have been carried by Babylon into Eurasia. These ideas are no less viable than the ones the experts have come up with, with those experts often ignoring data that doesn't fit their models until the evidence is so great it is more embarrassing not to accept it.

@@bartonbagnes4605 “with those experts often ignoring data that doesn’t fit their models until the evidence is so great it is more embarrassing not to accept it” What data would that be? Your personal feelings that the BoM is true? The only thing embarrassing is the Mormon church claiming Native Americans are descended from Jews, had written language of Hebrew and “reformed Egyptian” in ancient America, used horses and chariots (Alma 18:9) and fought massive battles with swords made out of steel (Ether 7:9) and where millions of people died (Ether 15:2). Yet there is no genetic, linguistic, or archaeological evidence for that whatsoever. And all the evidence we do have of the ancestry of Native Americans directly contradicts the narrative of the BoM and what Joseph Smith said. No one needs to catch up with the Mormon church, it’s the church that needs to catch up with historians and scholars. Apologists are just scrambling to reinterpret things and twist what prophets and apostles have directly stated.

A book in the Book of Mormon called Mosiah chapter 14 we find the whole 53rd chapter of Isaiah in King James English. The Mormons will argue that the people of that day (about 148 B.C.) had access to the Jewish Scriptures therefore quoted directly from the Old Testament prophet who lived about 600 B.C. If that were true, how is it they used 1611 English which had not even been translated yet? Obviously, Joseph Smith, or the writer of Mosiah had access to an English bible that was common around 1830 when Joseph Smith dreamed up this new church. It is plagiarism plain and simply. The BOM lists numerous things such as silk, horses, honey bees, coins, etc. that did not appear until hundreds of years later when the Europeans arrived. The Pearl of Great Price, Abraham chapter four shows a polytheistic view of God which no sane Rabbi would fall for.

I love talks that defend the Book of Mormon! Brother Callister gets it like Alma got it. Alma 5:45-46 45 Do ye not suppose that I know of these things myself? Behold, I testify unto you that I do know that these things whereof I have spoken are true. And how do ye suppose that I know of their surety? 46 Behold, I say unto you they are made known unto me by the Holy Spirit of God. Behold, I have fasted and prayed many days that I might know these things of myself. And now I do know of myself that they are true; for the Lord God hath made them manifest unto me by his Holy Spirit; and this is the spirit of revelation which is in me.

The woman who was wife to 7 brothers will be wife to no husband in the resurrection. JESUS said there is no marriage or giving in marriage in the resurrection. JESUS said we will be like angles not gods of our own creation. HE also stated the GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is the GOD of the living not the dead. So selling baptisms of the dead is not the GOD of Abraham's doctrine but if from "the power of Lucifer's Priesthod" you vowed to. Who do you believe in? Joseph or JESUS, because JESUS rebuked Joseph in three verses that are foundations to Mormonism. 1. Sealed marriage to qualify for full salvation. 2. You will be as gods. 3. The scriptures OT & NT are corrupted in need of a treasure diggers reformations. 4. Baptism of the unbelieving dead unto salvation by proxy. Revelations 22:13-15 "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End" - This INSTANTLY destroys Mormonism. It's one or the other. One anachronism the critics still haven't answered nor even tried to attack. Why does Nephi, Jacob, Alma, King Benjamin, amukek, ammon, and Aaron all sound different than Mormon? Why does Moroni sound different than Mormon? And frankly why do all these authors sound nothing like Joseph Smith? How come with all our technology no one is comparing Joseph's writing style to the book of Mormon writers and proving it's all the same voice? It's because if you've ever read Joseph's actual writing it sounds nothing the same. Find a letter where Joseph uses the phrase "and it came to pass". It doesn't exist. Find other times where he slips and has identical writings to these writer's. They haven't yet because they can't. It doesn't exist.

I’m a Mormon. We should believe the Scriptures, not man. And the Scriptures testify the Mormon Church is the only true Church of Jesus Christ on Earth. But if something is taught that can't be verified by Scripture, think twice about believing it. I understand why so many people are leaving the church. Many false doctrines exist causing countless KZbin videos mocking Mormonism. False doctrines like grandpa gods, (God the Father has a father), Mormons becoming gods of their own planets, Adam helped create the earth, Christ and Satan are brothers, God the Father has rarely spoken in Scripture, the African Americans were bad in the pre-existence; all of which no Scripture verifies. And each Sunday the Sacrament is tainted because only Elders and Priests can administer but the Deacons prepare/administer, and the Teachers pass/administer the Sacrament. (D&C 20:57) And the Lord says, He’s bound when we do what He says but if not there is no promise. (D&C 82:10) …that the scriptures might be fulfilled; for ye shall do according to that which is written. (D&C 24:14) And we wonder why there’s depression, mental illness and other unspeakable events among us? And many are leaving the church because if you don't fit the mold the church leaders sculpture you're not a part of the click. Mormons believe the church leaders over Scripture. The zealous believers have the church leaders in mind with everything thing they think say and feel testifying to impress others how much they believe the current church leaders are God-inspired. But the Scriptures reveal the church leaders are the problem with the entire Planet. For example, In 2 Thessalonians chapter 2 we are informed of a person revealed as the son of perdition. This son of perdition sits in the temple of God making himself God or above all that is called God. Therefore, if the Mormon Church is the only true church, then the only person 2 Thessalonians chapter 2 could be talking about is the current Mormon prophet. For what other church is the one and only true Church with temples? And Joseph Smith taught a son of perdition can only be a church member holding all the rites of God's priesthood and using the priesthood against God as did Judas. Therefore, who else other than the current Mormon prophet could the apostle Paul be speaking of? It's as plain as the nose on a face. And even God in the Doctrine and Covenants tells us about the current church leaders and how displeased He is saying the end of this world will begin among them. (D&C 112:23-26) Joseph Smith taught the false doctrine of grandpa gods (God the Father has a father) not over the pulpit as a prophet but as a sermon at a funeral, which should not be taken as Scripture fulfilling God’s sayings to Paul, And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: (2 Thessalonians 2:11) That they might be damned who believed not the truth….(2Thessalonians 2:12) And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. (Revelation 13:7) (D&C 112:23-26) And the current Mormon prophet is the son of perdition because he has all the saints believing God our Heavenly Father was created by a being greater than Himself but Scripture says there is no greater than our God. (Hebrews 6:13) Therefore, the son of perdition has all the saints breaking the first commandment God gave Moses, Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Does it make sense to reasonable thinking that God would command we have no other gods before Him but really there are? Does He not want us to know this? Why is it a secret? There’s a reason He commanded to have no other gods before Him. Because by believing in false grandpa gods the saints believe our God is an infinitely lesser God putting Lucifer before God. And the moment we put a god before our God, our God becomes an infinitely lesser God. Not only that, our God also becomes a liar. He and the Scriptures says He is the greatest of all. He and the Scriptures says He is the Most High God. He and the Scriptures say He created all things. And in the Scriptures He says over and over there are no gods beside Him. (Isaiah 44:6) (Isaiah 44:8) (Isaiah 45:22) (Hebrews 6:13) Therefore, the saints believing there are gods before Him is the saints believing the son of perdition or the current Mormon prophet over the Scriptures and calling God and the Scriptures a lie. And Isaiah warns, Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! (Isaiah 5:20) The saints call the son of perdition (President Nelson) good and good (Jesus Christ) evil. Because President Nelson says Christ and His Father are liars and fosters the false doctrines. Peter, John, Paul, Alma, Nephi, Lehi, Jacob and all the canonized prophets would not allow false doctrines from the Adversary but President Nelson does. President Nelson says Christ did not create all things. (John 1:1-3) Matter/energy cannot be created or destroyed the scientists say therefore the son of perdition or President Nelson says the grandpa gods created these calling Christ and the Scriptures a lie. Well did Abinadi warn the wicked king Noah and his priests, Have ye taught this people that they should observe to do all these things for to keep these commandments? (Mosiah 13:25) I say unto you, Nay; for if ye had, the Lord would not have caused me to come forth and to prophesy evil concerning this people. (Mosiah 13:26) And what is the commandment Abinadi taught that the people do not obey? Thou shalt have no other God before me. (Mosiah 12:35) Know ye not that I speak the truth? Yea, ye know that I speak the truth; and you ought to tremble before God. (Mosiah 12:30) And it is a false doctrine to say God our Heavenly Father has rarely spoke to us in Scripture. (3 Nephi 27:26), (3 Nephi 24:1). (2 Nephi 31:20), (2 Nephi 31:11) (D&C 49:20) Beware of the doctrine of the scribes and Pharisees, which are today’ Church leaders. (Matthew 16:6-12)

Amen Brother! The greatest witness of the Book of Mormon to me is how it bears out in life. The principles taught so clearly draw me closer to Jesus and bring peace and joy into my life. The miracle that happens through forgiveness that burdens of sin and guilt can be removed from one's conscience! This miracle of forgiveness is taught over and over and over again throughout the entire book. I am convinced that anyone who is humble as Jesus asks us to be and follows the principle that says by their fruits ye shall know them, then they will clearly see the fruits of the Book of Mormon are good! It is amazing to me to see how decades and decades (if not centuries) of propaganda and ad hominem attacks have blinded so many good people from enjoying the fruits of the Book of Mormon. Yet I believe time will eventually cut through the lies to reveal the beauty of this book to many truth seekers.

@brettpinion4233 Hi Brett, not one of your points persuades me in the least bit. In fact, many of your points sound like regurgitated talking points from decades ago. Many of which have been disproven long ago. Did you originally come up with any of these points, or are you simply falling for decades of propaganda? There is indeed a plethora of evidence across disciplines supporting the Book of Mormon; however, I am convinced it is not The Lord's intention and not in anyone's best interest to prove the truth to such an extent that there is no need for faith. Faith is essential to His plan for His children. So even though there are many many physical evidences or "non-spiritual" evidences of the Book of Mormon, we rarely focus on these, because the witness from the Holy Ghost is so much more important. I encourage anyone who is sincerely seeking truth, but is in the least bit persuaded by such propaganda to actually read the Book of Mormon and carefully consider whether it encourages you to have faith in Jesus Christ as your Savior, repent of your sins, and love The Lord and your neighbor. How anyone could read this phenomenal book and come to any other conclusion is beyond me.

The Savior will ALSO come preceded by an ARCHANGEL! Just because the Book of Mormon proves that the Bible is true doesn’t mean YOUR interpretation of it is! No matter how many times you tell a child to not touch a hot stove because it will burn them, some children just have to learn the hard way. In fact, the Smithsonian institute has a disclaimer letter noting the absence of support for the BOM. Furthermore, DNA disproved that any Native Americans were decendants of Hebrews as told by Joseph Smith. Your proof comes down to; "I had warm fuzzy".

@akhound Part 2.) AKH: “Jesus is the way the truth and the life no one can come to the father except through me.” [sic] That’s a great quote by Jesus from John 14:6 which, by the way, all Latter-day Saints, worldwide, studied in Sunday School just last June. the principle of Jesus Christ being the only source of salvation is a core teaching of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Here are samples of how the Book of Mormon teaches this idea (there is more than I can list here): 2 Nephi 31:20 Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.... 21 And now, behold, my beloved brethren, this is the way; and there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God. And now, behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and the only and true doctrine of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, which is one God, without end. Amen. Mosiah 3:17 And moreover, I say unto you, that there shall be no other name given nor any other way nor means whereby salvation can come unto the children of men, only in and through the name of Christ, the Lord Omnipotent. Helaman 5:9 O remember, remember, my sons, the words which king Benjamin spake unto his people; yea, remember that there is no other way nor means whereby man can be saved, only through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ, who shall come; yea, remember that he cometh to redeem the world. Alma 38:9 And now, my son, I have told you this that ye may learn wisdom, that ye may learn of me that there is no other way or means whereby man can be saved, only in and through Christ. Behold, he is the life and the light of the world. Behold, he is the word of truth and righteousness.

The reason we don't have the original gold plates is for our own sakes. If we had that kind of indisputable proof for Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ in the Americas, and Joseph Smith being a prophet, anyone who didn't accept would be super damned. You would immediately divide the world between those that deny the truth against all evidence, and people who no longer need faith because God spoon fed evidence to them. There is a very wise purpose that God has not kept the golden plates among us, and we should be grateful for that.

I know because this happened to me. But you must do this as Deuteronomy and Jeremiah direct, that is, "But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul." Deuteronomy 4:29; see also Jeremiah 29:13 ("And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.") You gotta put in the spiritual workouts to see the gains. EVERY prophet in the BOM as well as Joseph Smith himself fails this simple prophet test. In fact, I have yet to hear a single convincing true prophecy from any Mormon "prophet". Trust what God said, when it comes to false prophets. It literally commands us to put them to death, and in a modern sense that would mean to separate ourselves. I love the powerful doctrine of The Book of Mormon! I know that it, like the Holy Bible is true scripture! It like the Bible testifies so strongly that Jesus Christ lived among men, performing mighty miracles, suffered and died on a cross, and rose from the tomb triumphantly to help us to overcome sin, and deaths sting! Both teach that God loves us very much, and that he wants us to keep his commandments! If we have a great enough love for Jesus Christ, and believe that the Bible is true, we will eventually believe that The Book of Mormon is true also. They work synergistically to help bless mankind for eternity. They work together like the human heart, and the brain work together. The brain sends signals for the heart to pump life giving blood to it (the brain), and the heart is alive, as well as the brain because of the physiological relationship between the two. Both books also teach vital, but complimentary doctrinal truths! Reading both books and applying the doctrine in ones life is how we "are that we might have joy." Joy everlasting!

@@YasuTaniina The cement in the Book of Mormon is referring to the stone buildings in Egypt. Mexico isn't "treeless". Mexico didn't "ship timber" at the time. And Mexico isn't a location that used to be called "Desolation" (Helaman 3:6). Only Egypt fits this description. The Book of Mormon was written by Ethiopian Jews in Africa. This is where Jews went at the time. The geography is Africa. The Narrow Neck of Land is the Isthmus of Suez. The Northward flowing river is the Nile. Ethiopian Jews migrated through Egypt on their way up the Nile to Ethiopia. They believe Ethiopia is the Garden of Eden. They get this from Genesis 2:13. This is the point of the Tree of Life Vision. It guided Lehi through Egypt on his way to Ethiopia. The river in the dream is the Nile River. If Lehi would have stayed in Egypt he would have been destroyed. Read Jeremiah 44. The Nephites begin migrating back North to Egypt in Helaman 3 (for example). Helaman 3 is describing Egypt. Treeless, they build with cement and ship timber is a description of Egypt. The Nephites are destroyed in Egypt on the Nile. This was prophesized in 1 Nephi 12:16. The story of the Jaredites is Ethiopian as well. They started in Ethiopia, migrate North down the Nile to Egypt. Then they sail to Israel. They brought the milk and honey from the Garden of Eden to Israel. Then they begin to go back South to Egypt again. The Narrow Neck of Land in Ether 10:20 is Egypt. They build large buildings, wear fine linen and begin to "mock" (Chapters 10-12). The Jaredites are destroyed in Egypt. It is the lesson of the Jaredites that Lehi sees when he enters Egypt and has the Tree of Life Vision. He sees their large buildings and their fine linen. He sees them mocking in the vision. This is why Lehi moves on through Egypt and up the Nile to Ethiopia. This preserved his seed until they migrate back North to Egypt and are destroyed themselves.

Be very careful, my friend. Even satan came as an angel of light. No other book in the Bible asks for a test of faith like the book of Mormon. Also, unlike the Bible, there is scant archaeological evidence to back itsit's claims. The Bible tells us - "The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?" -Jeremiah 17:9. I've been on both sides: I raised a member, became a very strong member, and am now a non-member. It was an excruciating road - until I met Jesus. See, that's the thing that's so confusing, Jesus is true! A church is not true. The Book of Mormon talks A LOT about Jesus! But notice you're never asked to pray over the Doctrine and Covenants, nor the Pearl of Great Price...why is that? If you look at the actual theology of the Book of Mormon, it's incredibly close to mainline protestant thinking and teaching of the time so that it can feel good. But the added material leads to a real road of not-good times. Very very bad times. I will pray for you, David. Please read the gospel according to John very, very carefully. It speaks of the real Jesus - the only begotten Son of the living God, the Alpha and Omega. Jesus is not our spirit brother and never will be. He is a diety! We will be resurrected in holy bodies, but we are still 'creations' - there's a difference. We do not become gods and have our worlds with many, many wives (yes, that's in the LDS teachings - don't let them tell you it's not). Read the book of Revelation, chapters 21 and 22. It tells you exactly what will happen at the end - not gods..but living with the eternal God! Remember what the snake said in the garden - a lie and a temptation...a doubt, a lie, and a temptation. "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" (doubting God's word), "You will not certainly die," (LIE!!!) the serpent said to the woman. 5 "For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." (temptation, you will be like God). Don't do it. Please.

I can no more condemn the Book of Mormon than I can The Writings of Paul. I have no proof it is a lie. I was watching a tv show a few years ago about an ancient piece of pottery that was discovered in an ancient Indian burial mound. The pot had an ancient writing on it and no one could interpret it, so it was placed into storage. A few years later, a man who was learned in ancient middle eastern languages was shown the pottery and the writing read, " For the Judeans". The Book of Mormon tells of ancient Israelites who left their home and came to the land now known as America. Perhaps that's how the pottery ended up in an ancient Indian burial mound.

I have read the Book of Mormon many times. Each time I learn more truths and understand it better and better. A non-member friend of mine said that it can't be true and is filled with inconsistencies and false information. I asked him if he had ever read the Book of Mormon. He sheepishly said "NO". I love the Book of Mormon so much. I served a mission to a predominantly Islam country--Indonesia. The largest Islamic country in the world. Islam has the Bible "figured out" and in their mind discredited. But here we come with a NEW witness of Jesus Christ to present to Islam. They read THAT Kitab (holy book) and now another avenue is open to Islam to acquire a testimony of the Savior from Heavenly Father, having read this holy book. And it is ONLY through the Savior, Jesus Christ, that salvation can come to mankind. Salvation does NOT come through Mohammed. And the Book of Mormon bears strong and fervent testimony of the reality of Jesus Christ as our Lord, Redeemer and Savior. IF we turn Islam to the Messiah, it will be the Book of Mormon that makes that happen.

@@raddiemutto7934 I think we're probably going have a competing Theology on the nature of prophesy via living Prophets and what we as Catholics call Apostolic succession after the death of the last apostle, but I will do my best to answer your question. Humbly I'm no apologist but I believe that Christ established a Church on Earth, and the Church has apostolic authority to bind and loose and would be preserved thru all ages as Christ promised. The Church discussed a canon out of necessity at the council of Rome due to heresy in various bishops and churches. The Church finally chose and closed the 27 books of the NT in the Council of Hippo and Carthage 393. Incidentally the very same 27 that Protestants of various stripes, JW.s, SDA's and Latter Days Saint apologist try to exegete against Orthodox and Catholics. Can you show me in history (post and pre-Nicaean apostolic fathers and contemporaries) where the early Catholic and Orthodox Church fell into "total" apostacy since they didn't split till 1052ad, and why was it in need of an American restorationist to restore it?
@raddiemutto7934
@raddiemutto7934 Жыл бұрын
@@johnnychikko3800 We agree that Christ formed His Church on Earth, and the Church has apostolic authority. Evidence of the the apostasy are the deaths of those original apostles. Persecuted, beheaded, imprisoned, crucified upside down etc. Almost all the epistles from Paul and the other apostles in the new testament are letters trying to fight against the apostasy that had already started. An abundance of false teachings entering the Church, false teachers, other teachers that wouldn't let the apostles come (3rd John verse 9) etc. I don't want to scripture mine, but there are several both in the new and old testament that refer an apostasy taking hold after the death of Christ. Maybe just a few would be helpful. 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4. There will be a falling away first, before Christ second coming. 2 Peter 2:1-3 False prophets 1 Corinthians 1:10-12 divisions within the Church. These scriptures alone don't necessarily prove a total apostasy. But the truth is in your own comment - you said the Councils were formed out of necessity to stop disagreements, and heresy from within the Church. How are you so sure those councils arrived at the correct conclusions - was there apostolic authority there? There wasn't. Mormons are Christian, but we don't believe in the creeds that came from these councils. I also personally think the definition of the trinity established in these creeds was purposefully made to be incomprehensible, and a contradiction of terms. That way everyone who disagreed at these councils could kind of say, yeah that sounds good enough to me. Bishops were allowed to hold differing thoughts about God whether they be heresy or not, because the definition of the trinity isn't really a definition at all. The trinity was formed to keep the peace among bishops. I love the Catholic church in general - but the behavior of the Church during the middle ages was not good. That is evidence of an apostasy, some tried to protest the Church and some tried to reform the Church. Both were wrong, it had already lost it's apostolic authority. The restoration of the Church did not have to be an American restoration. The timing and location of the restoration does make sense. A country founded on religious freedom, where it could actually survive persecutions. It barely survived, but none the less here we are with 12 apostles, with authority that was given to Joseph Smith directly by the hands of John the Baptist for the lesser Priesthood, and Peter James and John for the higher Priesthood.

@@ChrisToohey-j2j Great question. Enoch was a book (OT) that was read in few non orthodox early Church traditions (Manichaeans). There were also orthodox books that were read during liturgy that also didn’t make it to the NT Canon. Examples (letter of Clement to the Corinthians, Didache, Shepard of Hermas and many others). The Church councils decided orthodoxy and this the 27 books we have today. The deuterocanonical texts are still held as canonical for the Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church: Tobit. Judith. Baruch. Sirach (or Ecclesiasticus) 1 Maccabees. 2 Maccabees. Wisdom. Additions to Esther: Fulfillment of Mordecai's Dream (Esther 10:4-13) Interpretation of Mordecai's Dream (Vulgate Esther 11) They were omitted by the reformers (theological reasons) and thus the 1611 KJV translators did not have them added. I was a devout (would have died for the cause) Latter-Day Saint my entire life. I recently joined the Catholic Church. I believe there is just as much evidence against the BofM as there is for it. For me, it's a draw. But when I consider the origin of the D&C, the Book of Abraham, and the issues with the JST, and the fact that the church will simply not publish the JST in its entirety nor canonize what it has published, as it was commanded to do multiple times in D&C, all of this tips the scales for me regarding the Book of Mormon. That said, I have no ill will towards the LDS church. All my family and most of my friends are LDS, and we continue to have amiable conversations.

Less is less. I get it. I mean philosophies of men are appealing. Rationality is exactly the ‘proof’ and ‘gospel’ Jesus taught. Sorry about Augustine condemning unbaptized infants to hell. And Pope Francis saying straws in the ocean is the most pressing problem facing the church. I will stick to living apostles and prophets and not shepherd children who need to teach the pope what is what.

@suem6004 You don't want to open that can of worms because the Journal of Discourses is full of false doctrine according to modern LDS standards. Need I remind you that Brigham Young taught that Adam was God the Father (Eloheim)? Or that there were sins that the atonement of Jesus Christ could not cover and required the blood of the sinner (known as the doctrine of Blood Atonement)? Quote: “Will you love your brothers and sisters likewise, when they have committed a sin that cannot be atoned for without the shedding of their blood? Will you love that man or woman well enough to shed their blood? That is what Jesus Christ meant.” Or what about when Brigham Young said that "If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain (black people), the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so?" Or Bruce R. McConkie's stance that “Negroes are not equal with other races” in spiritual matters? What's ironic is that the LDS church teaches that the prophet will never lead the members astray, yet teachings like these have been the cause and excuse for hate crimes and even murders. And I only shared two quotes, but these ideas were taught as Church doctrine on many occasions by several so called "prophets and apostles." Talk about philosophies men.

@@suem6004 Prophetic fallibility and “philosophies of men mingled with scripture”- In the LDS Church, the quote, “philosophies of men mingled with scripture” (Lucifer, LDS Temple Endowment & Multiple other sources on the LDS Website) is a negative statement and is associated with false doctrine and false teachings that are not of God. Per the LDS Church, it is part of Satan’s strategy to lead men away from God by teaching them “philosophies of men mingled with scripture” as opposed to the true word of God. According to the LDS Church, LDS Prophets, Seers and Revelators do not teach “philosophies of men mingled with scripture” but teach God’s will and mind because they receive “revelations flowing in a never-ending stream from God to his prophets on the earth”. (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Spencer W. Kimball, Chapter 22: Revelation: ‘A Continuous Melody and a Thunderous Appeal’) However, current LDS Prophets, Seers, and Revelators have “disavowed” teachings/claims of previous LDS Prophets, Seers, and Revelators claiming that the previous LDS Prophets, Seers, and Revelators were wrong. Many of those previous LDS Prophets, Seers, and Revelators pointed to the scriptures as evidence of support for those, now disavowed, false teachings. The excuse is that they are fallible men and were just “speaking as a man” when they made those incorrect statements/teachings/claims, which is also an admission that they were literally teaching “philosophies of men mingled with scripture” when they made those false teachings/claims and pointed to the scriptures as evidence to support their claims. The acceptance of LDS Prophet, Seer, and Revelator fallibility necessitates the acceptance that LDS Prophets, Seers, and Revelators also teach “philosophies of men mingled with scripture”. And, since we are on the topic of prophetic fallibility, here's another problem. LDS teachings regarding prophets as spokesman for God is circular logic and in the end, even despite the Church teaching members to seek personal revelation/confirmation from God that what they are teaching is true, the church emphasizes the need to follow the prophet over anything else, including personal revelation/confirmation: 1) Prophets will only teach the truth and will never lead you astray. 2) You will be blessed if you follow the prophet and you will suffer if you do not. 3) Prophets are not perfect; therefore, they make mistakes, do not always speak for the Lord, and sometimes teach things that are incorrect. 4) Although prophets are imperfect and make mistakes, it is wrong to criticize leaders of the church, even if the criticism is true. 5) You should not follow the prophets blindly but should rely on your own personal revelation to discern the truth. 6) If you receive personal revelation that something is true but it is contrary to what the current prophet teaches and current church doctrine, you have been deceived by Satan because prophets will only teach the truth and will never lead you astray. Refer to # 1 above.

There is an insane amount of evidence against it, and literally zero hard evidence for it. And the Book of Abraham, our one testable source of Joseph Smith's apparent revelation, has been proven by LDS and non-LDS Egyptologists to contain outright fallacies and inaccuracies. Moreover, the Holy Bible teaches us in many ways, that the one true word of God is the Bible, and no other. Such as Galatians 1:6-8 "I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel- 7 not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ." So works don't save us, but produces faith, and faith is required for reach the grace. The apostles, disciples, and specially Christ himself "went about doing good" (Athos 10:38) and inveted everyone to "go and do likewise" (Luke 10). @@tannerjasperson You ask an excellent question Tanner, but perhaps with assumed false choices. It doesn't mean that someone is tricked by Satan just because they have a different belief system, though Satan is certainly crafty at disguising truth. The Spirit or Holy Ghost can and will testify of truth regardless of religion. And there is truth in all religions. Every person also has a consciounce to know basic right from wrong. Ultimately, each person will be held accountable for the choices we make in our lives. The scriptures teach that "by their fruits ye shall know them", so this is one way to assess a prophet or the goodness of a belief system. We also have many witnesses of truth contained in the scriptures and modern day apostles. Paul was actively fighting against truth until his conversion. The thing I love about the LDS Church is that they do teach that there are good people throughout the world of all religions and no religion, and all will have the opportunity to hear and accept the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. We don't believe that millions of people will be burning in an everlasting hell simply because of their circumstances like most Christian Churches teach. I don't know exactly what experiences Muslims have, but I do know of the experiences I have had and I know what the Spirit of God feels like and dare not deny it. The Book of Mormon is a key tangible evidence of the truth of this Church, and ultimately, everyone must accept or reject it. I choose to accept it.

@@Red-gp9hn Because you are praying to Gods, plural. Mormonism is not Christianity as all other Christians believe there is only one God and he is Triune. The Father is God, Jesus is God, and The Holy Spirit is God. You pray to a false Christ and follow a false prophet. There is no Planet Kolob, The Father was not once a man and he did not actually sexually create Jesus in Heaven with the Heavenly Mother. These are all the ramblings of a person who used to trick people into thinking he could find treasure by looking at his seer stones when he was a young boy. He lied to people, cheated on his wife with over 40 women, tried to create his own currency to rival the USD, and even ran for president. He would have taken over the whole of the US and made it Mormon. He was a well known Free Mason and even called out "Oh lord, My God." when he fell from the jail cell window as he was dying, which is a call to all Free Masons in the area to come to his aid. There are plenty of reasons not to follow the Book of Mormon one is that it is not true. Plenty of DNA evidence to prove that and no signs of Christ in the Americas before Europeans. I was born into a Mormon family, baptized, and ordained a teacher. So I understand what I am talking about. Do yourself a favor and actually look into the history of the Mormons. Not just the LDS, but all of it. The man WROTE himself into the Bible. Genesis ends with Chapter 50 verse 26. But Joseph Smiths version goes WELL beyond it, talking a bunch of nonsense and then inserts himself as a Prophet to be. It's all very well and articulated by I am sure many different people. But I assume it was Emma, Oliver, Martin and David who made most of it up. They were learned, and could read and write. And they were all Masons or the wife of one. And I don't for one second believe the story that Joseph was not learned. I think it was a mask to make the story more believable.

At the same moment, nine time zones to the west, at the going down of the sun (6:30 PM), the people of the Book of Mormon witnessed a night without darkness, because the glory of the Lord shone round about them, illuminating the night sky, as prophesied by Samuel the Lamanite as a sign of Jesus' birth. I would suggest that you take a look at the Hopewell culture in North America. Also, as more evidence comes out, it seems increasingly clear that Joseph Smith did not practice polygamy. Just stories made up after his death by the church.

What truths? JESUS said there is no marriage or giving in marriage in the resurrection in Mat. 22:30. Joseph said no JESUS is a liar, you're sealed in marriage in the resurrection. So who do you follow in belief, Joseph Smith that sealed himself to other men's wives and children or JESUS the I AM? The women had 7 husbands in life but JESUS she will be wife to none. JESUS said the Sadducees err in the scriptures and the power of GOD for believing in marriage after death. Obviously the adulterate stone seer blasphemy JESUS calling HIS WORD corrupted. JESUS said heaven and earth will pass away but HIS WORD would never pass, yet the stone says it did ; Mat. 24:35. Did JESUS lie? Satan 1st lie was you will be as gods if you eat, Joseph Smith sells the same lie to you. JESUS said you will be like the angels not gods in one heaven not three. Who do you believe, Joseph or WORD YHWH from Jn. 1:1. JESUS said the GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is the GOD of the Living not the dead so why do you Baptize the dead? Btw; Be thee warned "I say therefore unto you that ye shall die in your sins; for if ye believe NOT that I AM, you shall die in your sins"; Jn. 8:24. Who do you believe the stone seer Joseph Smith who said Quaker dressed people inhabitant the moon and Brigham who said the sun is inhabited by people or JESUS who created the sun and moon?

Trinity is the truth “A Transcendental Critique of Mormonism” The Transcendental Argument can be summarized in this way: it argues that all alternatives to Christianity render knowledge and intelligibility of human experience impossible, and since it is self-defeating to hold the position that knowledge and intelligibility of human experience is not the case, Christianity must therefore be necessarily true. How the first premise (the incompatibility of alternative belief systems with the reality of human intelligibility) is argued will depend on the particular alternative worldview held by the Christian apologist’s interlocutor, which informs the apologist which worldview to critique. In the following, I make a Transcendental critique of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon) theology, utilizing the problem of the One and the Many (how their deities’ lack of unity/transcendence entails insurmountable problems proving the falsity of their system). On LDS theology, the heavenly father was once a man like us, whom his god created, spent time on his previous planet as a man, did enough good, and as a result, became the god of our planet, and we have the opportunity to do likewise. On LDS theology, presumably, his god had a god, and that god had a god, and so on into an infinite regress. These finite deities cannot ground universal, unchanging, immaterial laws, such as logic and morality, due to their being physical, changing, and having a finite beginning. A law (whether moral or logical), if unchanging and applicable/true at all times, must therefore always be, whereas each of these gods come into existence at a finite point in history as men (then do enough ‘good’ to become gods). However, each finite god is always preceded by the existence of moral and logical laws and thus doesn’t ground them (is not the source of these laws). Another reason they can’t ground these laws is that the LDS deities are said to be corporeal (physical), and laws of logic and morality are not. How can the law that ‘murder is wrong’ be physical? What about the law of non-contradiction? Are either of these made up of atoms, have a specific mass, or possess a particular texture? Supposing these immaterial, unchanging, eternal, and transcendent laws could somehow exist in a Mormon universe (but not grounded in any god), the finite deities couldn’t gain knowledge of them because they lack universal experience. To know if a law will hold true at all times in all places requires experience of all times and all places, which they don’t have since each god is not eternal and omnipresent but comes into existence as a part of the universe (each god experiences manhood on one planet and godhood on another (thus experiences two planets)) with a chunk of the universe’s history already having taken place so that no god has knowledge/experience of all places at all times. Neither does LDS theology have any being who does have such necessary universal experience and is personal to communicate these laws to the LDS deities’ finite minds (such a conception would resemble a description of the God of Christianity). Limited experience entails that each finite god could have his beliefs contradicted by something outside the scope of the deity’s experience. This means that all the deity's beliefs are fallible, and/or the deity might change his mind about previous beliefs. This undermines the reliability of any belief this supposed god discloses to humans, such as in sacred texts (or allegedly sacred texts). With word-revelation undermined this severely, this would leave man to the autonomous ‘man is the measure of all things’ position or method of obtaining knowledge (no different than secular epistemology (theory/method of knowledge)), which in turn reduces into either self-defeating position of skepticism or relativism. Thus, we see that LDS theology is incompatible with logic, morality, and knowledge, rendering the human experience wholly unintelligible. However, your ability to understand anything in this writing whatsoever demonstrates that human experience is, in fact, intelligible, and thus LDS theology is undoubtedly false. By contrast, in Christianity, we as humans have finite minds. Yet, we can gain knowledge of universal laws due to God, who either communicates them to us or implants/preprograms them as immediate knowledge. This he can and does via his transcendence infinitude omniscience and omnipresence (that he grounds and perfectly knows these), omnipotence & personalism (that he communicates them). Additionally, moral laws are not some mysterious, impersonal something out there to which God submits. His nature or character is the ground of goodness (which can be the case for an eternal, unchanging, and immaterial being). Thus, everything he does is good by nature and definition. Thus, he grounds moral laws, too. Lastly, God’s omniscience means that everything, not God (i.e., creation), results from God’s creative decree; and since God knows himself exhaustively, he also knows his creative decree exhaustively. As a result of this, as well as God’s universal experience (omnipresence), he has an infinite knowledge encompassing all particular information from eternity, such that there will not be any new info which might appear to God that could alter his perceptions or beliefs at any point in time, let alone after he gives word revelation (Scripture). We can know, therefore, that what he reveals is sure, and so word-revelation will be infallible as well. Thus, we see that, unlike the LDS gods, the absolute and transcendent Triune God of Christianity makes sense of the intelligibility of human experience, as I’ve shown in relation to logic, morality, and knowledge. However, the most critical difference is that the Gospel laid out in the Bible is that, unlike in LDS theology (and all other religions, for that matter), salvation is all of the Triune God, in which the Father sent the eternal and equally divine Son to take on flesh, live a perfect life of obedience, then die in place of sinners taking on their punishment and imputing to them the perfect righteousness the Son merited. The Holy Spirit is poured out in those who repent and believe, applying the benefits the Son procured on the cross, including the faith and repentance that those sinners respond to the Gospel with. May the reader also be blessed with the benefits of the cross through faith and repentance. Soli Deo Gloria! November 22, 2023 ❤️

I would be _MOOOOORE_ than happy, but sadly, *LDS* (you being one of them), always want to bring in the "XTRA" pieces of literature beyond the bible in an effort to craft their position & find support. You even deem what mere MEN say about the bible, for when there is a discrepancy, you let your leadership's word & your literature trump the bible.

Okay, here you go. Just a snippet of my broader reaction. Emma is incorrect when she says that Joseph could not write or dictate a well-worded letter in 1829. Included in the Joseph Smith papers is a letter written by Joseph Smith that is pretty well consistent with the quality of writing necessary to be able to produce the Book of Mormon.

Unfortunately, the LDS Church fails to teach the Bible's greatest promises. Namely that Christ's righteousness becomes imputed (attributed) to any one who places their full faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 4:22-25). Just as Abraham's faith was accounted to him for righteousness, so it is the case with anyone who places their faith in Christ. Faith in Christ is what justifies us fully and makes us right before God, not religious works (Ephesians 2:8-9) or the law (Galatians 2:16). Do you want to be made right before God? Trust in him alone, not a religious institution, not in works or ordinances, but in him alone. After all Christ proclaimed "It is finished!" before he died on the cross...our debt had been paid, he bore our sins on the cross not in Gethsemane (1st Peter 2:24). Any Christ that requires additional means to heaven is a false one that God warns about in Galatians 1. Trust in the authority of God's word the Bible, not in man. God bless.

James 2: 14-18 14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17 Even so afaith, if it hath not bworks, is dead, being alone. 18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

@@warrenbenson2638 Hi Warren. James 2 is discussing the *fruit* of salvation, *not* the root of salvation. This is akin to what Paul writes in Titus 3:8, *..that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.* Justification by faith will produce good works, however good works have nothing to do with a man's justification. Good works justify a man's faith in the eyes of men, but not God's. Christ's righteousness is attributed at the moment a man places his faith in Christ, thereby justifies him before God (Romans 4:3-5; Romans 4:24-25). You have to ignore a litany of scriptures otherwise. *And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. -Romans 11:6*

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is my belief that I am saved through Christ after all I can do. Christ suffered pain, affliction and atoned in Gethsemane that he could know how to succor his people. He died on the cross and was resurrected to enable all of God's children to be resurrected. I admire your passionate responses. I too believe that the Bible is the word of God given to his servants, prophets, among the descendants of Judah. I believe also that the Book of Mormon is God's word given to his servants among descendants of Joseph who immigrated from Jerusalem to the Americas in 600 B.C. I believe that God still loves and cares for his children and he ministers to them still as he has throughout the history of the world, for he is the same yesterday, today, and forever. God bless.
