Queen Marie is a splendid character in this anime. She's my favorite. I would never stop crying every time I watch this scene. And poor Auguste. He had to live on without his mother and Anna. Later, he have no father anymore. D'eon lost his dear sister Lia and beloved fiancee Anna, who supported him regardless. She died without seeing him one last time in person. This anime is a masterpiece and yet many people don't see it that way.

Louis tried to stop her from drinking the wine... but she still drank it... :( Queen Marie was one of my favorite characters in Le Chevalier d'Eon...

At the end when Louis was about to die, he kinda fell into the great sadness and regrets because he really missed his wife Marie, he loved her and really regretted to kill her

@AdaTwilightFairy because she read the royal psalms knowing the secret of Louis that he is not truly of royal blood, so he killed her, the same reason he killed Lia

My guess is because she was either spoiling a moment, or to divulge in self-ruin, because he lost the woman he loved in all the events inspired by his ambition.

Louis died at the end due to the disease maybe he would meet Marie in the heaven and told her that she was his beloved woman all the times, oh I am crying bc they were the tragic lovers, deon and Anna were also tragic lovers...

he was decaying because he burnt the page with his name on it. he felt into great sadness because he cant die even if he wants to. the psalm wont allow it. he didn't choose to be a king. even as 5-year-old child he was fully aware that he was put in the position as a human shield for france inevitable ruin.
