This is my second favourite Schutzstaffel fight behind Askin’s. While it seems surface level, its very deceiving. Its essentially a fight between advancements. One is a logical and methodical advancement while the other is just divine. Like, when Mayuri wins its almost like they're depicting humanity stepping away from the divine to think for themselves.

Understandable. This episode was mostly body horror with brief moments of comedic banter. The main protagonist is a disembodied arm that shoots nerves. Kenpachi casually tore his own mangled arm off like he was picking fruit. Mayuri does surgery on his own arm, and, whenever possible, every device he employs has a face which expresses pain, or fear, or both. Even Mayuri's bankai endures constant agony from all its exposed nerves. So, yeah, totally relatable reaction.

If you notice you can see how Pernida slowly goes from being a baby to having the ability to speak more and more clearly. That ties in with his aspect of "advancement".
@Tsun-sama2 күн бұрын
I low-key didn't like Pernida’s voice acting choice. It’s voice got deep way too quickly. Its suppose to still be child-like at this point, as in when Mayuri throws the acid at its nerves, whilst the deeper voice makes it come off as comedic. They should've saved the deeper voice for the last parts of the fight... When it develops more.

Yes, the poems let you know who the next episode is going to mostly be about. Also this episode was shot for shot like it was in the manga aside from them showing what happened to Hanataro who somehow got separated from the group but was close enough to hear Mayuri's sword scream, got paralyzed and somehow avoided the falling debris and Pernidas veins.

9:23 I think his bankai's significance is evolution, like he is always adding something or using something new to his sword and bankai. It's perfect for a a character who thinks perfection shouldn't be a thing(szayalaporro's fight). His sword is ever evolving.
@Gonapa58Күн бұрын
9:20 Mayuri's Bankai: Konjiki Ashisogi Jizo is based on a Buddhist "Jizo". It is a baby-like monk figure that is said to give birth to many things, including the soil/earth, storing it and then evolving/training repeatedly through rebirth. It is often a symbol of fertility. Mayuri himself therefore represents evolution/advancement. His last name Kurotsuchi "涅" means both black soil/earth and also Nirvana, because his path to seek knowledge and improvement is exactly a path to enlightenment. Kurotsuchi is also the word for black dye, which is why Mayuri paints himself in this dye. When Mayuri fought Szayel Aporro in the Arrancar Arc, Szayel likened himself to Jesus Christ because of his "perfect" rebirth ability, allowing himself to be reborn out of anyone. That is why in the manga chapter covers for Mayuri vs Szayel, Szayel was drawn as the crucifixion while Mayuri was the Baphomet. (You can find this if you look up Chapter Cover 305 "The Rising Phoenix" for Szayel, and Chapter 306 "Not Perfect is GOoD" for Mayuri) This is also why Mayuri's design had the horns like a goat during their fight. Now we finally get to Mayuri vs Pernida this episode and Mayuri uses a very familiar "rebirth" ability like Szayel's, while Pernida is the embodiment of "advancement", just like Mayuri

Geez i underestimated the character depth of mayuri
@cesarcaballero2499Күн бұрын
Iirc, Mayuri in that chapter with the horns represents Baphomet, a deity associated to the Knights Templar. Baphomet represents duality and balance of opposites, like male and female in a metaphysical unity. Many of Mayuri's enemies are representations of this, the crazy and clearly sexually deviant Szayelaporro (depicted as Jesus Christ in a manga chapter), the lecherous sexually ambiguous Giselle, and finally, Baphomet represents the left hand path, a pagan belief about black evil magic, in contrast to the right hand path, an opposite approach to white benevolent magic. The Left hand can be understood as a view on life from a different new perspective than the traditional. In other words, it means change and progress, what Pernida represents

I always thought Mayuris zanpakuto being a baby/caterpillar was because of how much he hates the idea of perfection. So his zanpakuto represents two of the most vulnerable creatures that have a lot of room to grow and evolve. Which represents his ideology of always moving forward and improving yourself.
@sakinah0611 сағат бұрын
ooo that’s a good interpretation!!

Oh, my... Yes! You have correctly recognized that the end quote is from the perspective of a character featured in the next episode. I agree with what you said about the anime-original content: I like how the whole audience gets to experience them together.
@ANDSTONE100Күн бұрын
9:20 My personal interpretation of Mayuri's character is that he symbolises parenthood, specifically the way parents try to make their children be the best they can be, in a more twisted way. This lines up with Zanpakuto being a baby that is constantly modified to be "better" and with the creation of his daughter, Nemu, who he desires to continue growing further.

I think the whole thing with Mayuri and his zanpakuto is that he is more of a bioscientist (unlike Kisuke or Aizen who study more technological/spiritual stuff) hence all the weird stuff he uses like those screaming bombs. And yes the poem acting as a "preview" has been a thing from the start 😂

As a manga reader is probably easier to notice cause we're already used to Kubo putting a poem at the start of every volume, in the anime they rarely used those poems before tybw haha

In my opinion Mayuri's Bankai symbolizes Evolution. It starts as a baby and matures into adulthood and ends the cycle by giving birth to a new Bankai. The new one has desired abilities from the data that got collected by the battles.

Mayuri's bankai being related to babies? Maybe Mayuri secretly wants to be a father. I mean even Nemu's surname is Kurotsuchi.
