I really like Le Lion and its use of woody ambers, dare I say amberxtreme and norlimbanol, giving that smokey, crackling and tenacious, powerful amber note 😬🤷🏻‍♂️ I don't know which of course. I'd say it's this. Yes, Shalimar's blueprint yet: Lemon instead of bergamot, Chanel floral accord (lighter, more orange blossom) instead of Guerlain floral accord (denser, more rose), and a lot more woody ambers taking the space of Vanillin. It's a modern Shalimar. I prefer Shalimar though.

Just want to express that I really appreciate your thoughtful reviews. I’m so on the fence about buying this, because I adore + collect Shalimar (even the old school facets like the aldehydes) but as an art + culture worker on a tight budget am not sure I want lay down $250-$400 for something that similar when maybe I could get another Chanel that is more divergent. +marinating on it+

I haven’t tried Le Lion but have heard many comparisons to Shalimar and I do appreciate you elaborating more on that. Given the price difference and my not having easy access to Les Exclusifs, I will be content with my bottle of Shalimar for now.
