@@Alexi7666 its cable driven. the needle has a steel cable connected to the wheels (i don't know the specifics). the wheel spins the steel cable inside its sleeve and this actuates the needle in the speedometer. this issue is common in some vehicles. i believe it has something to do with poor lubrication of the cable.

Next time you make one of these videos Nicolas, if you can, make the effort to place an extendable sound microphone with a windsock in a non windy place - preferably near the exhaust. A video like this would be delicious!

Yes, one of those little Zoom recorders in a thick sock in the boot somewhere (trunk), and then just dump the camera mic's audio and use this instead. It does make a surprising difference, losing the wind-noise.

Absolute amazing 50 minutes watching this... But... red Maserati was a little cheeky on yellow to green flag. Late decelerate and early accelarate!! And Driver 1 always waited the green flag line to accelarate, while others not!! Driver 2 uses the red line all the time.... :) :). And that Overdrive switch... My God... My father's Bedford truck had it on the gear lever and I could pull it up at any time needed with my fingers while changing gears!!! Please relocate that switch, cause it seems quite hard to find/use and bending in front losing sight and hands off steering wheel!!!! Thanks for the video even with the wind blowing...

Is it me, or is that lovely red Maserati not really slowing down much for the yellow flags? He ate the Jag up as it was passing the green flags (implying he was catching it up during the yellow zone) and pulling away from him in a yellow zone after that. I am not familiar with the details of the racing flags, but I thought you had not to change positions and slow down appreciably for yellow flags/lights.
@NicolasBertchannel

Yes indeed. And they are very strict on that. Many cars had penalties. I gained lots of positions because cars before me received penalties and ended up 13th overall.

Very cool haveing an overdrive, the speedo bouncing might be nearing lubrication internally? Had an MG that'd be doing anything between 70/90 on the Chichester bypass, until I oiled it a bit. Enjoy that Ctype needs a microphone by the exhaust, that'd be tremendous,cheers

@@alfaubromI have the same problem. Is it the instrument or the cable which requires lubrication?
@alfaubrom
@alfaubrom 11 ай бұрын
Keith houghton it may be both, the cable can be oiled by putting a small plastic bag of oil on the end of the detached cable, useing an elastic band to seal it then hold it up an let gravity feed the cable, it seams that slightly sticky internal cables cause the jumping.. I've run shorter cables powered by a battery drill to test speedo or tachometer for fluid movements, if their stuff at all internal oiling can work, clock repairs places have knowledge of special oils to use for speedometer an tachometer.. Best of luck.
