Caveat: I am a purist. VOICE FIRST. Any director who requires a singer to eat on stage - especially crisps / potato chips belongs in the Tower of London, 16th century version! I endured this gimmicky production for Peter Mattei... but the gimmicks and weird 2020 "covid" style dancing altered the dynamics and cadence of "Le Nozze." Music comedy and Opera are two different genres and contemporary directors called in to "dress up" and modernise opera seem to use it to promote their own agendae ... so yes, I'm persnickity, but unless the vocalist suffers from diabetes or hypoglycemia, no drinking or eating during performance. It affects the cords and it is dangerous to the singer.
