Lea is a singer that can act, Monique is an actress that can sing therefore Lea is the better singer while Monique is the better actress. Comparing them is like comparing jeans and trousers..... they both do the same job but they're different. At the end of the day it is pointless to compare them because these are two great, successful artists and you can't go wrong with either individual.

As a Vietnamese, I find Lea looks similar to Vietnamese more than Monique. And in my opinion, she's also more beautiful. Maybe those were some of the reasons. BTW, they're both good at singing.

If you've ever been to an actual Broadway musical production, you will realize that the caliber of performance is almost equal among the cast - whether you play a major role or not. It's simply saying, if you get signed for Broadway, then you must be really good.

I agree with you! When I first saw this, I was like: Okay, that sweet girl has to play Kim - no doubt. And when I heard Monique sing I thought: She'd be great as Mimi! It's just Lea is more innocent.. I can't even imagine her as Mimi.. ^^

i agree.whenever a filipino or half-filipino achieves something, we all grow arrogant...high and mighty, forgetting that the one who achieve such recognition should be celebrating it, but when something disastrous came... we all turn -tail, denouncing that they are one of our own. well i guess it can't be helped. FILIPINO PRIDE & FILIPINO SHAME had become a misinterpreted connotation for most of us, hopefully the next generation, those who're somewhat enlightened to this year should understands

Lea was great but I think Monique was equally good for the part - it was a hard task for the auditioners to choose between those two talented girls. Monique Wilson released the Gerswin songs cd a couple of years ago - I heard the samples and was amazed by her crystal clear voice! Too bad the cd was only released in Japan :(
@czarjhaypi17 жыл бұрын
Lea actually has acqured british accent prior to Saigon because OB mon then had english rather than american english subjects. She's not a valedictorian and was a freshman in Ateneo during the audition and continued it at Fordham University in New York.

These two girls were chosen not only because of their terrific voices but may also be because of the true innocence they exude which they found only in the Philippines. This can never be duplicated again in our lifetime. so we must savor it now.

well, i have to say a friend of mine, a music school owner and performer herself, had a similar complaint about lea when performing a concert. i can only say that lea is a very subtle performer. she may not do dance numbers, but she expresses herself vocally, and you have to pay attention to catch on to the nuances that she does in the songs.

i think Lea has always had that british accent. its not like she's doing it on purpose, thats really just how she speaks. but what's amazing bout her though, is that despite the twang in her language, when you hear speak in tagalog its not slang at all. just straight tagalog.
@zilam9816 жыл бұрын
i remember that was one of the contentions that they had between lea and monique. for me, another thing is that lea has a presence about her, especially in that show, that really takes you in, makes you think she's really kim, and empathize with the character. monique does have a great voice, but i think her personality didnt fit as much with the character in the key points.
@puffypandaman18 жыл бұрын
Actually, I don't think it's a British accent. It sounds more Vietnamese. I compared it with the accents in "Full Metal Jacket". Sounds pretty much like it. :)

AshtonPelham, Filipinos are not taking pride in pleasing the Western World. We're simply proud of how far she's gone in the music world : ). And sure, you have the right to say "she aint all that", (i don't know your method of judging though) but seeing that the more *qualified* judges gave her the lead in the original london cast and in broadway says something.
