Michael Ball did a fabulous job enhancing Lea's singing. He was hanging on her every lyric, listening, not tuning it out. And then he drew in that intimacy while she was concentrating on getting her balance in his arms for the head drop. She was inward, he was outward, towards her.

It’s really good performance for a concert. It’s limited compared to actual musical play were you have the freedom to move around. Even though they’re just standing here they able to convey feelings and emotions of song. Kudos to both Lea and Michael they did a fantastic job.

I love your reactions, and I'm a BIG fan of Lea's, but I thought you guys were very disrespectful of Michael, he can do more with his voice and we all know it, but what his character demands right now is for him to stay in the background, it's not his song, it's Eponine's, he did right for the piece, it takes a great artist to think about what fits in the moment instead of his ego, he did what he was supposed to do: support the leading singer, and he did it beautifully, funny how nobody mentions that!!!

What’s even more crazy about this is that it accurately reflects a lot of relationships. That even at the end Eponine must take on a lot of the emotional work and even tell him, hey... just comfort me. She has to direct him, as women must to a lot of us men, to do the right thing, to tell the man what she needs even while dying.

I know me too!! She just has that magic! 🪄 But I think he needed a little reminder that he too has a character that goes through something during this song. And that something changes him. A sort of growing up. But Michael is a legend and it’s not like it was a bad performance. He just had an exceptional and detailed actor next to him. X
@sunny70299

There is no need to be disrespectful, Michael is as skilled and brilliant as Lea and without having any vocal training. This isn't Marius song, it's Eponines. Marius role here is to comfort Eponine and make her death as peacfull as he can under the circumstances, Michael Ball gets that it's not about him. He isn't in denial about Eponines imminent death, he is trying to bring her comfort by playing along with her delerium.

Two weeks ago, I just watched the series "Les Miserables" directed by Shankland made for BBCtv, and I can fully appreciate this legendary songs from les miz. in fact, i was waiting for lea's voice and other actors in the series. Yeah, since that series in non musical, i was just imagining the voices in some of the scenes. And i think that is one of best les miz interpretation. Kudos to actors and director - shankland. So in his hurtful scene, when Eponine took a bullet for her love, Marius. Another great performance by Lea and Michael. I love this show too. Again thank you for all your reactions and your effort is muchly appreacited.

I don't think you guys actually understand what Marius role in this song is supposed to be. He is there to soothe and comfort Eponine, you shouldn't be looking at Marius here, it's not about him, something many actors have a hard time accepting and all too often try to pull focus. Michael Ball is a seasoned enough actor and performer to get that this isn't his moment and to understand Marius role in this scene. She isn't trying to comfort Marius, she is numb from blood loss and slightly delerius, which Marius plays along with to try and comfort *her* Michael also listens to Eponine as she is dying, which is something I have seen very few Marius actors do.

You should do a review of the Michael Ball, Judy Kuhn and Lea Salonga version of "In my Life/A Heart Full of Love" that is the penultimate song in the first act of Les Miserables. I mean, it's wonderful and you have two Disney princesses in one of the best trios in all of musical theater (Pocohantas and Jasmine/Mulan). As an aside, I saw Les Miserables at the Kennedy Center in 1987, before it opened on Broadway. It was amazing to see Colm Wilkinson in the role. Michael Maguire was also great and so was Frances Ruffelle and Terence Mann. My mom and I had sixth row seats and wow, I still get the chills remembering that performance. A year later, I took a friend out to see Phantom of the Opera on the last night of previews at the Majestic Theater. I almost forgot how beautiful my friend was while watching Michael Crawford, Sarah Brightman and Steve Barton from the sixth row. Of the two, Phantom had an amazing stage production but Les Miserables has the most beautiful score and songs. I could not believe that Colm Wilkinson lost the Tony to Captain Pellew, but, admittedly, Robert Lindsay was great in Me and My Girl. I really enjoy your Salonga Sundays. I like Rachel Ann Go, but Lea is a singular talent. I was in the Philippines in 1989 and watched her perform in a concert called "A Miss Called Lea" - before she and Monique Wilson headed to London for Miss Saigon. Great times. Les Mis, along with Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen are my favorite musicals written in the last thirty five years. Your youtube videos keep the love of musical theater alive. Thank you.

What is interesting now about Lea is that she had been played a leading actress role in Sweeney Todd here in PH and SG which is very different from the previous roles she played. The clip of "Wouldn't It Be Loverly" that JaCi1723 has included was from a production of MY FAIR LADY that Lea did in the Philippines in 1994. Lea wanted to audition for the Broadway revival of MY FAIR LADY that happened in 1993, but they wouldn't see her because she wasn't white. I'm including a link to a video from a concert where Lea talks about not being given the opportunity to audition. The story is sprinkled through her singing "I Could Have Danced All Night" and then leads into a performance of "Back To Before" from RAGTIME. I'm pretty sure the concert took place in 2013. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zp62ZZqMjJJ5jtk
