Excuse me, with all honor to Leadbelly, but the Germans were utterly starving to death because of the British blockade. Hitler was a German first of all just like Leadbelly was an African American first of all. The horrors of WW1 made Hitler. To their credit the horrors of WW2 made Germany democratic. I suspect until America has met a war on her soil equal to the wars fought on German soil we had best watch our opinionations.

Attrition warfare was strategically used during WWI. That does not justify beginning WWII for retribution. Total war is not a reasonable answer to privations suffered by soldiers of a previous war. Damages from the Blitzkrieg kept the UK under food rationing until 1954. It was justified for the UK to invade Germany in 1977 and Agent Orange all food crops for revenge...wait, no, that logic is garbage. Clear garbage. New war will result in future suffering, but will never remove the human damage from past wars. This holds true regardless of national affiliation.
