All those great players and all those thousands of instructional videos that started out during the 80's in VHS and are everywhere now online. Nobody ever tells you that first and foremost, you won't achieve mastery on an instrument until you have so many flight hours that playing becomes an almost automatic function like your breath. Training your brain and your muscles takes time and endless repetitions. There is no shortcut.

1 Saw him play in Goldrush. Electric Country. That was 83- 84 He and his brother did pentatoic major finger tapping in harmonies...during the Van Halen early days. I did stage Security and had a metal band. It was a blast watching him I used to mouth off to " sound guy" I was better than most guys on stage. He asked me about Tommy... after the show. I said nope. No way 2 Australia has a huge country scene look up "Tamworth Music Festival"

Math Guy--The same thing happened in England too, a great many musicians love American country music and some in my opinion like David Hartley on steel guitar, and his late partner John Stannard on lead guitar actually play it even better. Most very good players like the late Glen Campbell can just hear something and then reproduce it perfectly or in their own style. kzbin.info/www/bejne/naamnq2Xq7mEeqM "Country Boy" Check out this version (without vocals) by Hartley and Stannard who in my opinion outplay Ricky Skaggs and Albert Lee who wrote this tune.

I've been to five of Tommy's concerts and I keep hearing that guitar burning thing from different guitarists. First off, it isn’t the guitar’s fault. Not only that but Tommy is way better now than he was back then. If Tommy of the 1970’s heard Tommy of the 2010’s, he might have said the same thing. What if he had burned all his guitars as a result? Then we never would have heard Tommy of the 2000’s. I just figure you play what you play and don’t worry about anyone else. Make a joyful noise. Sometimes when I play and get into the flow, I get goosebumps and wonder who that was guiding my hands. I'll sit there thinking, "I can't believe I just played that." That's what it's really all about. Using your guitar to release your heart and soul. No matter which guitarist I’m listening to at any given time, I never compare them to Tommy Emmanuel. I don’t even think about Tommy Emmanuel when another guitarist holds the stage. I’m just hearing the music in front of me. But when great guitarists like Tommy hold the stage, I'll sit there thinking, "I can't believe I just heard that." Live for those moments because they reveal a whole Universe of possibility. There is so much room to grow. It's out there waiting for you.
