Thanks Paul. This really helped me. I saw the video where you and Chris were casting lead balls. But I couldn't figure out how your pot setup works. Till now. Thanks mate, I owe you one.

Skilled people like you can do with the minimum. A top mechanic changed the engine in my ford ranger with his basic tools in a tool box that he pulled out of his car's trunk. Unfortunately I need a $400 dollar RCBS pot and a $160 Lyman mold.

I like the idea of modifying a pot to bottom pour , I just want people to be aware that too much heat, as from a propane burner can cause an aluminum pot to deform, soften, and drop the heavy lead thru the fissures. I would trust a stainless steel pot more after my first attempt at melting lead in a thin aluminum sauce pan, pot. Be careful and use a thermometer. Love, peace and awareness friends!

Should use some insulation typically used on a crucible in order to maintain the heat better and reduce your fuel cost. I have done this even on my cast iron dutch oven set up and notice a reduction in propane use.

That pot looks like it's some kind of aluminum alloy? Really? I would think it has too low a melting point! If so, this makes my one project cheap to get done as I already have a steel pointed punch/awl. I definitely learned a few REALLY good things from you!. Straight forward simple and removed so much aggravation with that simplicity, and minimal step design! I have an 18" Billy Club drilled 5/8" all the way through the middle. I want to fill it with lead for Blue Fish season in the fall, when they get 20 pounds. Getting the treble hook and steel leader out without making sure they are incapable of chomping your fingers is a MUST! Incapacitated is KEY! Please tell me more about the metal of that pot! Thank You for so many enlightening points! You've earned at least one pint at your favorite pub after you pull in a great catch!

I agree. It appears to be aluminum. The aluminum shouldn't melt, but from what ive gathered over the past few months It seems cast iron is one of the better/safer things to use. People say steel pots can "unexpectedly break during casting" Although my first pour was a steel pot. Cast iron took over fast. One reason it works best is it holds heat better then alot of options.. My main problem with an aluminum pot is Metal's/ aluminum, get "soft" when heated. aluminum is soft to begin with, but when you add heat and a few pounds of lead, along with a weak point ( the hole in the bottom) its asking for trouble. If I was gonna try a setup like this i would personally want a bolt or something similar as the stopper for the drain, along with a safer pot. The last thing you would want is to not get the hole lined up just once, then lead is uncontrolled when spilling all over the work space, and possibly the person pouring. One wrong move and its disaster.

Good idea, mate! And definitely simple!! All world inventions were made because of our laziness. You were lazy to pour with a spoon - there you go. Sorted!

I just bought a 20 pound Lee melting pot that has the bottom pour set-up.. Genius!! I might have to try that with my old pot. It's aluminum, so I should be able to rig up something.

My first attempt at an aluminum melting pot melted out the bottom and flowed the 20 pounds across about 10 feet of garage floor. Luckily I was not burned as the bottom just fell out at my feet!
@bobsunkees33922 жыл бұрын
So you were burning the lead which is liquid at $618° f aluminum pot becomes liquid above 1200 degrees fahrenheit so you must have one hell of a heat source to melt the bottom out of aluminum pot or you just tried to pick the whole 20 lb pot up what he was showing and demonstrating is the simplicity to a problem and cast iron is a preferred pot however it isn't the only one that will work.

Doesn’t it pollute the environment to shoot lead all over the place. Won’t it get into the food-chain?
@lorenray94792 жыл бұрын
Lead comes from silver mines and is already in all our environment naturally. The world directors want to end independence by stopping freedom to innovate. No more self preservation. Only submission to their rule. If you defend and feed yourself you are the enemy of the dominator.!!!???!!! Why does most all products from china come with a lead and toxic warning. Even in a restaurant supply store???
@redgum13402 жыл бұрын
...and where do u think lead comes from? It's everywhere. Go and talk to the fuel companies. LOL
@marcocynicalis4845 ай бұрын
Hey Marc ,if you have seen the show Curse of oak island,in one episode they metal detected and found a 200-300 year old lead musket projectile on the beach, intact,round etc,it wasn't mostly corroded away or anything even in such a corrosive environment and this was after CENTURIES, the 'bullets pollute the environment' line is more likely to be just another anti gun deception. Cheers.
