I loved this brother!! I called him tow or three times in the 1990’s with gospel questions. I was a 30 something Mother in So Cal. Brother Nibley’s number was in the Provo phone book so I called him. He was very gracious an answered my questions so simply I was shocked! I hope to meet you in the Eternities Brother and Sister Nibley. :) ty

I never went to collage nor was I a strait A student in school.I learned that bro.Nibley loved the same things as I did.I have enjoyed learning everything Prof.Nibley ever taught that he wrote down or was recorded.I became so deeply learned from this man I am so glad that he shared his teachings so freely.I continue to learn more and more through him.I thank God for him.

Wow! I should have attended this talk as I was graduating then, but it would have been anticlimactic since I was starting my master's. So I went home (out of state) to enjoy the 2 week break and missed brother Nibley's talk... until now. I never knew I had missed it.

I love how real it is. Truth is independent of religious denomination choice. This guy walked with a BYU briefcase and couldn't deny the pull to truth, and represented accordingly. Simply beautiful.

Are you commenting on the wrong video? I feel like you're talking about the one with the Catholic.

This speech is outstanding! So much have we learned from it, of men's actions, both inside and outside the Church.

I get the impression during the intro, Hugh Nibley is saying to himself, "Get on with it".

He has plenty to say with for that.

Hugh did not need to be praised and couldn't care less for it. He chose to teach principles instead!

I noticed that even at this ceremony he had a pencil in his hand … but I didn’t see him stop and make a note on his notes …

Well...he might have needed to. He didn't *this* time, but in case there was a need to change something, he was ready to go. Which, as I think about it, seems to be representative of his general life philosophy: based on what I've heard and read about him (including Dad's experiences with him as a teacher), Nibley seems to have always been a deeply humble individual: he would work *very* hard on his research before he taught something as truth, and he doesn't seem to have been wrong very often, but if something new came up that demonstrated his old view was wrong or otherwise in need of adjustment, he accepted the correction, and adapted accordingly.

So my friend sent me a talk. I think it was a BYU devotional. I remember it talking about cutting the ends off ham and talking to rebel teenagers. Does anybody know what I’m talking about? I can’t remember what it was called or who it was

Great great speech. None other has come very close to this. The only thing wrong was his reference to Central America. Not so. North America.
