Speirs was actually a platoon commander in Dog Company until the assault on Foy. Because of a lieutenant's incompetence, Easy Company became bogged-down in the town, so Speirs took command and led the assault successfully. From then on he was commander of Easy Company and was no longer in Dog.

In Dick Winters book, "Beyond Band of Brothers" he reveals that Speirs did in fact shoot those German POW that were under gaurd and he did shoot on of his own soldiers for refusing to go on patrol because he was drunk.

@Snako85 Thanks, thats what i was thinking, i wanted to go into the Marines then transfer into an airborne unit like the 82nd. But from what ive heard from Rangers and recruiters it really tough, and thats why i want to be one, their the best.

on d-day the paratroopers were told to not take any prisoners because they didn't have the manpower to look after them so he was following orders also it was said that the Germans would execute any paratroopers if captured under suspicion of being a spy. he also may have been to Ste. Mere Eglise where Germans bayoneted troopers caught in trees and unable to defend themselves

@Snako85 Yea, you can get direct commision, but you have to be an NCO and really prove that you are able to be commisioned. And yea, the 82nd is actually airborne and i think you have to go through airborne training to become a Ranger, and scince they made the 101st air assault i dont think it will cut it for the Rangers

@Snako85 im not completely sure yet, but definatly the infantry, but im not sure if im going to join the Army or the Marine Corps. but in college, im going to join ROTC or NROTC to become an officer

@Snako85 ROTC is a course you can take in college to become an officer, or you could go to West Point, but thats very hard, or you get recommended for Officer Canidate School by your CO i think

@Snako85 i completely agree with you, NCOs are like the backbone of the military. but my problem with being an NCO is that you would have to start as an enlisted man, which wouldnt be that big of a deal but i would just like to be commisioned right away, i know its a shitty excuse
