Kane & Lynch 2 is a weird, weird game. The gameplay isn't particularly fun, if I'm being honest, but everything about the experience is so unified, and considered, all with the aim of bringing you a truly disgusting, gritty experience, and it does that so, so well. It's an experience that I can't haven't in any other game, and that alone demands that I recommend this game.
The music in this video is from the Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days OST by Mona Mur

I think it because censorship in media always implies that the thing being censored is extraordinary violent or revolting being comprehension. So when it left for us to fill in the blanks we fill a much more gruesome image then intended

I feel that Dog Days did two things to mechanically reinforce its theme and style. The first is weapon inaccuracy, basically all of the guns are super inaccurate even in the best-case scenario. Second is the fallibility of cover; you're never fully in cover in Dog Days, a little bit of you is always peaking out and enemies will sometimes nick you even when you're sheltered. These combine to subvert the standard shooter power fantasy where you slip between pieces of cover where you're untouchable, one-tapping headshots as you go. It forces shootouts to be frantic and sloppy in a believable and organic way.

Fully agree! This game has way more atmosphere than most modern shooters and playing it feels like being trapped in the most hectic parts of a John Woo movie fighting for survival. It achieves this in a way that Stranglehold did not and that game was a legit sequel to the movie,Hard Boiled. I can come back to this game and play through it on local co-op again and again just as with old classics such as Streets Of Rage 2. For me this is a timeless game and thoroughy enjoayble to play no matter how many times I come back to it. A true cult classic.

YES! Someone gets it! Most tps games of the era let you sit in the back of the room behind cover and click heads until everyone is dead. Kane and Lynch 2 forces you into the thick of battle. Another part of it is that guns only come with one or two mags, at least on the highest difficulty, so you regularly have to move around the battlefield to pick up new guns.

One of my all time favorite games. You don't get games this gritty and cut throat anymore. Just a masterpiece into the world of "urban industrial seriousness" that brings you into a world of crime that most people aren't comfortable exploring let alone thinking about. A extreme amount of talent went into this game, from the lighting to the shadows and the shaking camera, tossing you into a world of found footage, of a chaotic night, following two psychopaths that you actually get to play. Many people I know, still have never played it and they ask me what's it like? I say its like if David Fincher and Guy Richie made a game together.

the utter sound design of this game, with the very well made artistic realism from the lenses of a camera, is nothing short of impressive for a game from that era it looks utterly great still. it's one of the very few games i keep replaying and i still haven't forget the very first time i finished it from getting it out of a bargain bin and playing it on hard REALLY sold me the experience of it being a fucked up word while also showing to me how AAA devs approach the same mechanic of cover shooters to make the levels memorable from the looks of them. i will never forget the shipyard and the very final level on the inside of the airport where you are on a low ceiling power? cabinets. and the helicopter section and level just completely shattered my mind by how the color pallet and the piercing sun on the side of the most unique tower shows to ya that you aren't there to do a good job but to just survive what's to come. the best summary of the game graphics is "photobashing come to life" by how the ultra realism tries to emulate a cheap camera look view of the word, you can see the bleeding greens and oranges fightning to stay on focus while the lens flare is always just from one direction and engulfs the screen from top to bottom regardless of where they are on the screen at the moment. thanks for doing a video that actually tries to sell more the idea of the game instead of others that just say its bad or like others talked about jacob video even that dude only sold a quarter of the idea talking that it was the reality of that fucked up world and story premise while not showing the full picture of what it could do.

Something else this game does interestingly is it's soundtrack. The pop songs are original and authentically composed chinese tracks, and those ones can't be heard in-game unless you are passing by a radio throughout the stores or inside people's homes, again showing the amount that went into atmosphere. And some tracks are very easy listening and have a soothing tone, which makes the horrific and constantly chaotic nature of this game even more fascinating. I love these 2 games so much, I was really attached to the story growing up. I feel like 1 was Kane's story about his family and 2 was Lynch's over his love for his girlfriend. Also I'm not sure if anyone answered you at 3:00 but if you're talking the reflections on Kane's body, that's called Specular Reflection Mapping. It's essentially a texture/mipmap that's placed over the true texture to allow reflections based on the current surrounding lighting. In unreal engine which I believe this game is made in, or a derivative of the IO engine, this graphical setting can be turned up and down at will. It's what you see when it rains on the road in GTA V for example.

I'm pretty sure he actually means an effect that's most noticeable when you actually play the game in darker areas with a neon sign. The 'Addbas' logo in that scene, for instance, will appear inverted, transparent and smaller on the screen, as if it were a reflection. If you look up some gameplay on KZbin you might be able to catch it. I'm pretty sure it's just supposed to simulate glare or a dirty lens, and I think it's a pretty cool effect at that.

K&L 2 is by far the most best Art Directed Video Game of the decades. Cinema Verite style, lens flare, lens dirt, Hong Kong, HEAT style. 2010 when they review its bad because everybody in the verge of “uuh new tech era the millenium”. K&L 2 is a tech triumph for me because the realistic gritty-ness that wrap the digital 3D of it.

Game is definitely not that bad! In fact, I just realized that arcade mode is basically Fragile Alliance from the multiplayer only with bots and I absolutely love it ! Can't stop playing those heists ! Story is fun too only its too short. Its often for a 1 buck during sales on Steam and for that price its an absolute steal! And btw if you don't like shaky camera or visual effects, you can both turn it off in the settings. Definitely give this a try ! I wish they made third game one day :-´(

Bought this when it launched. It's by no means good and the enemies are spongey af. It does have a completely original style that I'd love to see expanded on though. The shootouts are the closest to Heat I've ever heard too which is a huge plus. Still have my physical copy because I think it'll be one of those you can't find anywhere soon

I played this again with my friend I completed it originally with and we had a laugh especially when the draw distance breaks and an apartment complex keeps disappearing and enemies are walking on air 👌

Honestly best part about this game Is that you don’t feel safe or protected In cover during intense gunfights. It’s not some safe heaven cover like In other shooters, it keeps you moving especially when a lot of the cover Is breakable.

Kane and Lynch is a series that has potential, potential that I think is a damn shame will probably never be fully realized. I like how ugly and grimy these games are. They don't make shootouts look fun, they make them look like gruesome ass skirmishes that are terrifying to be in the middle of. The protagonists aren't heroes. Sure they're humanized and even tragic, but at the end of the day they're still scumbags who continue to keep doing terrible shit. This game's atmosphere combined with actually good gameplay could be a masterpiece in my opinion.

I remember when I played this game's demo at launch, of which I was very impressed by the game's graphics and gameplay. to The game itself, it was quite fun, especially its multiplayer. But the game is nothing more than a summer game to pass the time until the bigger games are released.
