When you build, on the side of your units there are commands for what it will do when spawned. For example you can make units stay still or follow you. In my opinion, mass spawning mortar men is truly powerful for their price.

You can open the RTS map at any time, theres a button for it (I'm not sure what you have it bound to)... its right above the build menu above your gun. Also, you should really look at that item shop, you can buy a lot of cool stuff like a jetpack, significantly better guns, grenades, and more ammo. Also also, you can change the behavior on your units to have them stay there so they don't wander off, just press B before you spawn them (or walk up to them and press B if you already built them, you can also go into rts mode and manually tell them where to go)

Baron you are really limiting yourself by not buying weapons and ammo. You can buy a backpack that gives ammo over time and a minigun that sets enemies on fire. You can also get a zipline ability and a medic gun to heal allies.
